Apple looking to bring WatchESPN app to Apple TV
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhone Download Blog - Posted Tue, 15 May 2012 19:14:28 UTC +00:00
Bloomberg is out with a new report this afternoon, claiming that Apple is in talks with Disney to bring its WatchESPN app to the Apple TV. The app, which is currently available on the iPhone and iPad, allows existing ESPN subscribers to watch sporting events on the go. Apple TV already contains apps from the NBA, MLB, and NHL — all of which provide live broadcasts of league games to subscribers. But ESPN’s offering would feature much more rounded coverage, including basketball, baseball, golf, soccer, tennis and more… “ESPN subscribers with AppleTV would gain access to the network’s Internet service on their sets. The sports network, which today announced programming for the TV season starting in September, said a deal isn’t imminent.” It’s unclear how users would qualify for an Apple TV-based WatchESPN app. As it sits right now, you have to be a current cable subscriber (with ESPN in your Read More

Bloomberg briefly reports that Apple and Disney are in talks to bring sports network ESPN's WatchESPN application [App Store] to the Apple TV set-top box. ESPN subscribers with AppleTV would gain access to the network’s Internet service on their TV sets. [Sean] Bratches, the network’s executive vice president of affiliate and advertising sales, spoke in an interview today. The brief report doesn't specify exactly how access to the WatchESPN functionality on the Apple TV would work, but currently customers of a number of cable and Internet companies have varying levels of access to the app's content on iOS and other platforms, which includes nearly all of ESPN's live broadcasts including online-only ESPN3 content. Currently, cable subscribers through Comcast, Time Warner, Verizon FiOS, and Bright House have full access to WatchESPN content, while subscribers on a host of other Internet services can receive access to the ESPN3 content through the app. Update: Read More

Sprint subscribers can now enjoy free television programming on their iOS device. iOS users with a Sprint subscription are in for a treat as the company has just launched SprintTV, a new way to stream television content right to your iPhone or iPad. The app offers free episodes of TV shows like 30 Rock, NCIS, Access Hollywood, and more, as well as live sports from ESPN Mobile and breaking news from ABC and NBC. The basic service is free to all Sprint subscribers, with options to purchase additional packs for a monthly fee. Channels, such as Nickelodeon, Lifetime, Discovery and more are available, and Sprint offers a number of packages for folks who would rather watch their TV on a tablet than at home. Sprint’s appearance marks another entrant into a marketplace featuring apps from ESPN, ABC, HBO and others. It seems we’re quickly marching towards a future where nearly all Read More
Best apps for the Super Bowl
Mini_discussion_bubble IntoMobile - Posted Fri, 03 Feb 2012 17:37:10 UTC +00:00
The Big Game is just a few days away and whether you’re a Giants fan or a Patriots fan, it likely will be a great time filled with adult beverages, tasty snacks, funny commercials (including one from Samsung) and great football. Research shows that many of you will be using a smartphone or tablet during the game, so let’s take a look at some great apps which will help you enjoy the Super Bowl even more. One of my favorite parts of the Super Bowl is that it gives you an excuse to eat all sorts of delicious food that’s probably not good for you but let’s step our games up folks and create bites that are better than your average feedbag. I really like the iCookbook app on the iPad because not only does it have thousands of recipes, it has voice controls in it so you don’t have to Read More
Ultimate Media Center Guide: iOS, Apple TV, Mac OS and Windows

We've been putting together our little media center. It's sweet and it lets us view just about anything we wanna see. It consists of our set-top boxes and other media devices. It's all been combined into one awesome media consumption machine that uses everything in our office. Hit the jump to check out the components that make up our media center. We definitely enjoy Slingbox. It's a set-top box that lets you beam any of your television viewing to another device, such as your computer, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. What's most useful is that you can watch your television anywhere. For instance, if you subscribe to Showtime, but are traveling out of town, you can take your iPad with you and watch Showtime from your iPad so long as you have an internet connection. This is also nice because it bypasses some of the problems that have arisen Read More
WatchESPN App Now iPad-Optimized
Mini_discussion_bubble TheAppleBlog - Posted Fri, 27 May 2011 19:41:36 UTC +00:00
Less than two months after it first made live video streams of its cable channels available on mobile devices, ESPN’s popular live video app, WatchESPN, is now optimized for iPad viewing. The latest release of the app brings a bigger screen resolution and clearer video to sports fans that have the Apple tablet and also happen to be subscribers of select cable systems. The WatchESPN  iPad app, like the iPhone app and the Android  app released before it, lets users watch live video streams from the programmer’s stable of sports networks. That includes access to cable channels ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, as well as its ESPN3 broadband video service, all in one place. The catch is that the live streams are only available to subscribers of a couple of pay TV services right now. Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS and Brighthouse Networks subscribers that get ESPN as part of their cable packages will Read More

ESPN's iPhone App Shows Us What TV Everywhere Is Supposed to Look Like [MediaMemo]
Mini_discussion_bubble AllThingsD - Posted Thu, 07 Apr 2011 21:00:25 UTC +00:00
Two years ago, the big cable networks and providers started talking about “TV Everywhere” — a plan that was supposed to let cable TV subscribers watch anything on TV, on whatever device they wanted, wherever they were. The idea was that whatever/whenever access would be enough to keep cable TV subscribers paying their monthly bill instead of cutting the cord for Hulu, Netflix, Apple TV, etc. And while it sounded pretty good on paper, it’s been very slow going since. But here’s what it’s supposed to look like: ESPN’s new “WatchESPN” app, which does just what you think it does. It lets you watch the sports network live, for free, on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, no matter where you are. It seems to work pretty well, too. Here’s a screenshot of live TV I took from my iPad. Note that the app is technically an iPhone app (an iPad-optimized Read More
WatchESPN iOS app brings live TV to your iDevice
Mini_discussion_bubble IntoMobile - Posted Thu, 07 Apr 2011 20:29:16 UTC +00:00
The WatchESPN iOS app has just been released and it gives you access to live TV on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. For those of you wanting to cut the cable cord, this isn’t going to be your salvation because you still have to be a subscriber to Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks or Verizon FiOS TV (I’m on Comcast, so no love for me). If you’re a subscriber to one of these, the WatchESPN iOS app will give you live access to all of its content on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.com. “Innovation continues to drive ESPN,” said George Bodenheimer, president, ESPN, Inc. and ABC Sports, in a prepared statement. “When we launched in 1979, nobody envisioned a day when people would carry ESPN in their pockets. But here we are. And we’ve reached this watershed moment for the industry through tremendous collaboration with forward-thinking partners.” It’s an Read More
ESPN launches Watch ESPN app that lets you do just that
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 07 Apr 2011 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
ESPN is one of those big media producers that has done well on the App Store -- not only has the company released a number of successful apps for its various properties, but the content sells well on iTunes also. Now, the company is actually sending content directly to your iOS device. By downloading a new app called Watch ESPN, and hooking it up to a certain internet/TV provider account, you can watch ESPN and its various spinoff channels right on your iPhone. Currently, the service only works with subscribers to Bright House Networks, Time Warner Cable or Verizon FiOS TV, but ESPN is presumably working with as many other providers as possible to make sure that if you can watch the channel at home, you can watch it on your iOS device as well. This is a very cool bonus for people with the right services, and hopefully we'll see Read More

Blurred video?
NelsonG11 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I'm seeing blurred video on sportscenter only on replayed game footage. An example was just right now forthe Boston red sox game. Instead of showing highlights like on tv, they just displayed the box score with stats with no video highlights. And then after talking to analysts and referencing game footage for the panic meter, all game footage was blurred. What gives?
Good App But

Doesn't work if you're a Directv, dish, or Comcast subscriber. I give it 3 stars just because I know the app works.

Wow, this is amazing! Watching this is just like watching it on TV! The only thing they should improve is that its about 15-20 seconds late from being live. But I'll give you huge credit for making a LIVE SPORTS APP. Thank you ESPN! Now, time to watch the Laker game!
