Twitter iOS update adds improved discover, search, notifications
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Fri, 27 Apr 2012 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
Twitter for iPhone and iPad (free, universal) has been updated to version 4.2. This update introduces a number of changes, including an improved discover feature. Now, the app shows an activity feed displaying which of your tweets have been favorited or re-tweeted by other users. You'll find activity listed below the other discover features. Search has been improved too, with auto spell correction in the search field and search history. New push notification options let you know when one of your tweets has been re-tweeted or favorited; an additional alert announces a new follower. Finally, Twitter for iOS 4.2 offers support for Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish and Polish. You'll find it in the App Store now. Read More

Live television streamed to your iOS device for free? Got it! MobileMe replacement services? Naturally! And there’s oh so much more in store for MacLife.com readers today, so let’s cue the lights and start the show for this Thursday, April 26, 2012. While we love the convenience of Wi-Fi, our desktop Macs are still jacked into Ethernet as our primary connection -- mostly to enjoy the additional speed that wireless can’t hope to compete with when transferring files between systems. Netgear is hoping to change our minds, today announcing the R6300 Wi-Fi Router, the first 802.11ac dual-band gigabit model that takes full advantage of fifth-generation Wi-Fi at speeds up to three times faster than 802.11n. Twitter Updates iPhone and Android Apps: Improves Discover Tab, Search & Push Notifications
Mini_discussion_bubble TechCrunch - Posted Thu, 26 Apr 2012 18:24:43 UTC +00:00
Twitter just announced the latest updates to its mobile apps for Android and iOS. With these updates, these apps get a number of much-needed new features, including an improved Discover tab, better support for search and support for push notifications for interactions. These new push notifications now let you know whenever somebody retweets you, favorites one of your tweets and when somebody new follows you. Until now, Twitter only sent push notifications for direct messages and mentions. With this update, Twitter is apparently trying to address some of the criticism it faced when it launched its radically redesigned mobile apps last December. Last year’s redesign deemphasized many core features like direct messages, search and lists in favor of highlighting, among other things, follow recommendations and trending stories in the Discover tab. Today, Twitter is making some much-needed changes to make the Discover tab more useful. When it first launched, You can Read More

Twitter for iPhone Updated with Bug Fixes
Mini_discussion_bubble iPod Touch Fans - Posted Tue, 03 Apr 2012 22:19:25 UTC +00:00
Posted by Jacob Penderworth on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 3:19 pm.   Twitter has updated their iPhone app to version 4.1.3 today, bringing a fix for users who are experiencing issues with receiving updates within the Mentions and Interactions tabs of the app. Users had apparently been reporting this issue for a few days now and, according to The Next Web, have recently not been able to receive any updates at all in the two aforementioned functions of Twitter’s app, no matter the amount of times they pulled down to refresh the stream. Tweetbot for iPad and iPhone doesn’t seem to have this issue since it instead uses a live streaming service to keep updates constantly flowing in automatically, much like that of Twitter’s official Mac client. Regardless, if you are still a devoted user of Twitter’s official iOS client, then do head over to its App Store page to Read More

The Retina display on the new iPad, available Friday, is absolutely stunning. However, the increase in resolution actually makes some older apps appear all pixelated and gross. You don’t want to show off your brand new iPad and leave your friends with the impression that the screen on your new tablet is any less clear than a shimmering pool of unicorn tears. Here are several iPad apps that have been updated with Retina-ready graphics so everyone within eyesight can witness the pixel-pushing power of your new Apple tablet. Besides the titles that were featured in the iPad introduction event, Apple has setup a new section on the iTunes App Store to highlight Retina-ready titles. I’ve handpicked a few titles from this list and from other updates I’m aware of for you to try out. Two years ago, Twitter introduced ’Promoted Products’, which are essentially ways for companies to advertise across the Twitter platform and gives Twitter the ability to make revenue. Companies can sign-up for Promoted Accounts, Tweets, and Trends as a way to bring notice to their service. Today, Twitter announced that their iPhone app will start featuring Promoted Products. The advertising service was included in the latest Twitter for iOS update released last week.
Mini_discussion_bubble Blog do iPhone - Posted Wed, 22 Feb 2012 10:24:33 UTC +00:00
Quem usa o serviço e quiser conferir as Read More

Twitter for iOS 4.0 adds connect and discover features, more to iPhone only
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 08 Dec 2011 18:55:00 UTC +00:00
The Twitter app for iPhone (universal) has been updated to version 4.0 to go along with changes to the web interface. However, these changes are for the iPhone alone. The iPad version will remain as is for now. The update introduces a redesign of the iPhone's interface that streamlines the iOS version of Twitter to match the announced web version, which our sister site Engadget notes is similar to changes announced for Gmail. The menu bar is divided into Home, Connect, Discover and Me sections. The Home section is the typical timeline, and selecting a tweet allows reveals who has replied to it, who has retweeted it and embedded images. The Connect section shows who has followed or mentioned you. It also shows retweets of your tweets as well as favorites. This is a feature that's popped up on the web interface in the past few weeks. Of the 24 million photos posted to Twitter in the week of October 22nd to October 29th, Twitter for iPhone came in highest with 21%, Instagram accounted for 13% and the iOS 5 Camera and Photos app accounted for 5%, bringing the total to 39%. Apple's new iOS 5 introduced integrated Twitter functionality, bringing posting of photos to Twitter directly from the Camera and Photos App. iOS 5 has only been out since October 12th and it's already the 7th biggest photo client for Twitter. Other big players were Twitter for Blackberry at 12% and Twitter for Android at 10%. Twitpic accounted for 8%, but was not counted towards the iOS percentage because it is a multiplatform client. Twitter for iOS adds improved sign-ups, redesigned iPad DM feature
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Tue, 11 Oct 2011 21:15:00 UTC +00:00
Twitter's official iOS app has been updated with a few nice new features. First off, it now offers an "enhanced sign up experience." iOS 5's built-in Twitter integration now allows apps to query the Settings app for sign-in credentials (if they've been set up to do so). This greatly streamlines the process of using an app with Twitter features for the first time, because you don't have to manually enter your account information or password when you first launch the app. Instead, you simply tap "OK" on a modal dialog popup that asks if the app can access your Twitter accounts. Tweetbot is the first third-party app I know of that's also integrated this functionality. Also new to this version of Twitter is a redesigned direct messaging interface on the app's iPad version. DM conversations are now threaded and organized chronologically, and overall the design aesthetic is quite reminiscent of iMessages Read More

Dear Google: Today started out like any other day. After opening my eyes and wiping the drool off the edge of my lips I reached for my iPhone and began what I call “the cycle”. First, open up “Sunrise Sunset Lite“, a neat little application that uses my current location to calculate when dawn and dusk take place and then displays how many hours and minutes of sunlight I can expect to experience. Live in Finland as long as I have, and you’ll know why this is precious information. Next, open up “XE Currency” to see how the Euro and American Dollar are doing; it’s a basic way to gauge the health of both the American economy and the Euro Zone. After that it’s time to crack open “Facebook” and see which of my friends had a party last night and uploaded hilarious photos of their drunken adventures, and to read Read More
The Top 10 iPhone Apps I can’t live without

Over the years, I’ve owned more smartphones than I care to count. From BlackBerry to webOS to Android, I’ve had just about every platform in my pockets – often two or more at a time. However, there was one smartphone and platform that has remained with me regardless of the other devices I’ve carried – the iPhone. And really, the biggest reason for my devotion to the platform is its wealth of high-quality apps. When friends and family jump on the iPhone bandwagon, the first question they usually ask me is, “What apps should I get?” It really all depends on what you plan on using your phone for. Are you a photo junkie? Do you find yourself on social networking services more than you actually network in person with friends and acquaintances? Or do you just want some games and news apps to pass the time while you’re on your Read More
5 tips for a more social iPhone on Social Media Day
Mini_discussion_bubble TheAppleBlog - Posted Thu, 30 Jun 2011 15:28:49 UTC +00:00
Thursday is Social Media Day, so in honor of that, I’d like to offer a few tips about making your iPhone a more social device. It’d be easy to just say “register as a developer and install iOS 5,” since that brings Twitter integration, but here are some options that don’t cost $99 and involve using pre-release software on your primary device. This is actually a tip for your Mac, but it makes it much easier to share photos to Facebook and Flickr if you set up Events in iPhoto ’11 that you can dump content to in bulk. Using uploading apps on the iPhone itself usually works best if you’re only doing one photo at a time, and if you’re on vacation, that can get annoying very fast. Connecting your social accounts in iPhoto will make it much easier to create organized albums on Facebook and Flicker with only a Read More

With all of the various options available, like Echofon, Twitterific, the official Twitter app and everything else, you already have a choice of ways to browse and post to Twitter on your iPhone. But just in case you happen to use Mobile Safari to do it, Twitter has updated its mobile web app, tuning it up a bit to match both the standard official Twitter interface and the "new Twitter experience" seen on the standard website. As you can see at right, the bar that's normally across the bottom now sits on top, and you can browse through replies, mentions, and check out trending lists. You can even view some media, like pictures and videos, right there in the feed. Pretty groovy. Again, I can't think of a reason why you'd use this over a dedicated app on the iPhone, but it's up to you. The new version of Twitter's mobile Read More

If you tap Cydia’s QuickBar, it will go to the item in question, whether it be a theme, tweak, or whatever. Obviously (hopefully) this is nothing more than an elaborate joke by our friend saurik, the man behind Cydia. Otherwise, we’d probably be seeing a jailbreak tweak that got rid of the QuickBar in Cydia. Wouldn’t that be Read More
Twitter Completes QuickBar Retreat, Pulling Feature From iPhone Software [Mobilized]
Mini_discussion_bubble AllThingsD - Posted Thu, 31 Mar 2011 19:47:06 UTC +00:00
Ding dong! The QuickBar is dead. Bowing to strong criticism from users, Twitter on Thursday said it had pulled the controversial toolbar feature from its iPhone app. The QuickBar feature was added last month and immediately drew a rebuke from users who said it mucked things up. Twitter said it still sees potential, but will go back to the drawing board. “Rather than continue to make changes to the QuickBar as it exists, we removed the bar from the update appearing in the App Store today,” the company said in a blog post. “We believe there are still significant benefits to increasing awareness of what’s happening outside the home timeline.” For those who can’t wait, the QuickBar-less app is already available on the App Store. Here’s the full text of the company’s retreat: Last month, we released an update to Twitter for iPhone and iPad containing a number of features that Read More
Twitter Axes the #Dickbar

The dickbar highlighted promoted tweets in an ad-like manner in attempt to monetize the service, which put-off many users and caused a huge stir online. Jack Dorsey, co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, recently returned to head of product, and has decided to remove the dickbar from the official app. An updated version of Twitter (sans-dickbar) is now available for download on the App Store. Twitter is still trying to monetize the service, so it’s possible that some form of advertising will return in the not-to-distant future. “Rather than continue to make changes to the QuickBar as it exists, we removed the bar from the update Read More
Twitter for iPhone updated, QuickBar is dead
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 31 Mar 2011 23:00:00 UTC +00:00
The Twitter for iPhone app has been updated (again), and this time the company has included the change everyone's been waiting for: the QuickBar, which featured trending terms along with some paid placement phrases, has been removed from the app. Twitter deftly sidesteps the actual reason why the bar was removed, but their reasoning basically lands on the idea that the bar didn't "improve the user experience" or serve the mission of connecting people to trends on the service. Whatever the reasons, the QuickBar is gone, despite what Twitter says are "incredibly high usage metrics," so the voice of the crowd wins this round. Twitter says it will continue to experiment boldly, however, so it's unlikely that the trending topics are going to be gone for good. Still, after all of the fervor around this particular feature, it is nice to see that the company is taking public outcry into consideration. Read More

For now, we’re going back to the drawing board to explore the best possible experience for in-app notification and discovery. If Twitter wants to run an ad at the top of the scrollview, Twiterrific-style, I’m all for it. It’s your platform. Monetize away. But the problem with the trend bar implementation is that I’m being subjected to what I find to be the poor taste of millions of mouth-breathing buffoons in my own timeline. Read More
Twitter kills QuickBar from its iOS app
Mini_discussion_bubble Download Squad - Posted Thu, 31 Mar 2011 18:26:00 UTC +00:00
Twitter has just updated its iOS app, and the biggest change that version 3.3.3 brings is something many users have asked for -- the removal of the (in)famous QuickBar. First introduced in an update at the beginning of this month, this new feature has seen immense backlash from users of the app, who considered it had only one purpose -- to intrusively serve 'promoted trends' and help Twitter make some money. Subsequently, Twitter backpedaled a bit by making the QuickBar no longer cover tweets once you scrolled down. Apparently that hasn't gone down well with users either, since Twitter has now decided to outright remove the QuickBar. In its blog post on the matter, Twitter explains that its goals for the QuickBar were innocent -- it wanted to let users in on what happened in the world beyond the borders of who they follow, and the feature was also supposed to Read More
Twitter update adds photo, video capture to iPad 2
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Sat, 26 Mar 2011 01:30:00 UTC +00:00
The official Twitter app for iPad has been updated to version 3.3.2, and it now allows you to take and share photos and videos directly from your iPad 2. This functionality was already in there for the iPhone, of course, but now that the iPad is outfitted with a camera, Twitter has made it easy to take and share video directly from Apple's magical and revolutionary device. The update has a few bug fixes, including a fix that helps location sharing work a little better. What the new version doesn't do is get rid of the trending topics quickbar, a feature that still has some users up in arms after it was added into the app a little while ago. But that fight aside for now, I look forward to seeing some iPads putting video and pictures on Twitter. Read More

Twitter Updates iPhone App, Calms User Revolt?
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Thu, 10 Mar 2011 03:01:50 UTC +00:00
by Twitter ran into a user revolt when it released version 3.3 of its iPhone app last week, and Wednesday it released an update that could convince its angry users to put their figurative torches down and go back to their homes. The problem was, Twitter introduced a “Quick Bar” that hovered at the top of the user’s tweets, generally making a nuisance of itself in spite of the fact that it was offering real information about trending topics. Users didn’t care for this at all. Wondering how widespread the disdain was for this little tweak, we took a poll last weekend and got an overwhelmingly negative reaction to version 3.3 of Twitter’s iPhone app. As you can see, more than 81% of our readers disliked the Quick Bar: Now, as Twitter promised late last week, version 3.3.1 is here, and it includes “updated Quick Bar default behavior to not overlap Read More
Twitter backpedals on the Quickbar, makes it no longer cover tweets

Twitter has reacted to the backlash about the Quickbar, the new addition to its iOS apps that shows you trending topics (including promoted trends). The Quickbar was introduced in an update to Twitter for iOS that became available on March 3, and, in just a few days, it's been made very clear that people really hate it. So Twitter decided to step up and submitted an updated version of its app to Apple last Friday, just one day after the previous one was released. While Apple was reviewing the new version, however, the term "dickbar" was created along with its own hashtag, and a quick Twitter search will let you know just how people feel about the Quickbar. The newly available Twitter app for iOS, version 3.3.1, still has the Quickbar, however it will no longer cover tweets once you scroll down. Twitter also says that it's fixed some bugs in Read More
Twitter Backs Down on Quick Bar in Latest Update
Mini_discussion_bubble TheAppleBlog - Posted Wed, 09 Mar 2011 14:50:56 UTC +00:00
Twitter introduced an update for its iOS application last weekend that included the Quick Bar, a black bar that featured trending topics prominently displayed at the top of a user’s tweet stream. It was met with resounding and forceful hatred by the Twitter user community, and quickly nicknamed the “dickbar.” A new update today doesn’t take away the dickbar, but it does make it far less annoying. With the new update, the dickbar still sits on top of your tweet stream; that’s apparently not something Twitter is willing to make optional. But now, mercifully, it doesn’t stay within view as you scroll through your timeline. While I still don’t find the Quick Bar was in any way helpful (I rarely pay attention to trending topics, instead trusting my followers to surface things that I’ll find interesting), at least now it no longer really takes anything away from the experience, either. Twitter Updated to Version 3.3.1, Quick Bar Improved
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhoneFreak - Posted Wed, 09 Mar 2011 14:02:23 UTC +00:00
Twitter’s official iPhone app is arguably the best way to tweet on your iPhone, however last week this became ‘was’ the best way, thanks to the introduction of the thoroughly intrusive Quick Bar.  The Bar was there to introduce trending topics to the main Twitter view, paving the way for sponsored and promoted topics in the future. Unfortunately, the Quick Bar overlaid new tweets, appeared when it liked and although it claimed to be ‘location aware’, it failed to show the right country’s promoted topics in my stream, preferring to show ones from Turkey instead.  Thanks for that. This upset a lot of people, and Twitter was alive with negative comments and the app’s rating dropped severely on iTunes.  Twitter had to do something, and today they’ve released version 3.3.1 with their solution. In addition to some performance and stability fixes, the Quick Bar has been changed to not sit over Read More
Twitter para iPhone ganha nova atualização, resolvendo vários problemas
Mini_discussion_bubble Blog do iPhone - Posted Wed, 09 Mar 2011 11:01:48 UTC +00:00

TweetCaster Pro: An alternative to the 'd**kbar' in the Twitter app
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Mon, 07 Mar 2011 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
Timing is everything. Just about at the same moment that the official iOS Twitter apps were updated with a new "Quick Bar," which was met with almost universal disdain, Handmark started shipping its new TweetCaster (US$4.99 Pro and ad-supported free versions available) Twitter app for iPhone. There's no "dickbar" in TweetCaster, and in fact, the app does everything it can to let you zip the lips of annoying tweeters or trends. Yeah, we've all seen a lot of Twitter apps, but TweetCaster is a bit different, and that's what made it interesting enough to try. The official Twitter app recently added the annoying Quick Bar, designed to let you know what was trending in Twitter, which means that lately it's been filled with the phrases "Classic Tattoo Fail," "Breakout Kings" (which appears to be a paid promotion for the new cable TV series), "thataintwinning" (somehow related to some actor from Ferris Read More

Twitter iPhone App’s Quick Bar Met With Disdain, Twitter Reacts [POLL]

by Twitter placed a new “Quick Bar” on its iPhone app last Thursday, and as usual, when anything changes in the online world, there’s a small and extremely loud group of hard-core users objecting to it. The Quick Bar, appearing in version 3.3 of the iPhone app but not the iPad version yet, floats at the top of the Twitter timeline, displaying a rotating list of trends, including promoted trends (as you can see in our graphic here, but promoted trends only numbered about one out of ten trends shown). A finger swipe changes the trending subject to the next one. Given a mocking name referring to both Twitter CEO Dick Costolo and possibly an anatomical reference at the same time, the “Dick-bar” is causing an uproar. It even has its own Twitter hashtag (#dickbar), and you can get your own giant version right here. The Twitter iPhone app is currently Read More

There are many RSS clients out there, both offline and online, with many news junkies heralding Google Reader as the best one, and now Nokia has written their own. It’s simply called Nokia Reader 1.0 and it’s a beta. While the feature list is rather slim, you can only add feeds by typing in a URL manually or browsing through a pre-populated directory, Nokia Reader is meant to show off some of the company’s software innovations. First, the app is written in Qt, Nokia’s latest platform that enables developers to write applications for Symbian and MeeGo devices. From the demo above you can tell it’s responsive and smooth, something that’s rather difficult to do with native Symbian C++. Next, the app uses Nokia’s push notification API. Read More

Each NewsGlide section is divided into ordered news, blogs, slideshows and popular sub-sections. The slideshow sub-sections are particularly well laid out to take advantage of the iPad's "flick through your photos" navigation. Well, you take pictures, apply filters (or not), and post them, and view other’s photos. Like any other social network, you can comment on other’s posts, or “like” them. Think of it as “Facebook, but only for pictures.” On the surface it seems a little pointless, I’ll admit. However, you really should give it a try. It’s free, and easy to sign up. Surprise, surprise, Pandora Radio made the list. Yeah, Pandora has Read More
Homescreens – Dezember 2010 (iPhone + iPad)

Außerdem verstecken sich innerhalb der Ordner folgende Apps*: Amazon.de (kostenlos; App Store-Link), Convertbot (1.59 €; App Store-Link), AnalyticsPro (5.49 €; App Store-Link), Delivery Status touch (3.99 €; universal; App Store-Link), Dropbox (kostenlos; universal; App Store-Link), iCabMobile (1.59 €; universal; App Store-Link), Skype (kostenlos; App Store-Link), WeatherPro (2.99 €; App Store-Link), Pastebot (2.99 €; App Store-Link), LogMeIn (23.99 €; universal; App Store-Link), OffMaps (1.59 €; universal; App Store-Link), Kik (kostenlos; App Store-Link), PayPal (kostenlos; App Store-Link), Linkie (0.79 Read More

Twitter for iPhone Updated With Push Notifications
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhone Download Blog - Posted Wed, 17 Nov 2010 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
The official Twitter app for iPhone and iPad was just updated to support native push notifications for @mentions and direct messages. Push notifications can be enabled in a new pane for your account settings. Push notifications for  the Twitter app (and what was formerly Tweetie) has been a highly desired feature for a very long time. I’m sure we’re all glad that Twitter has finally gotten around to implementing a feature that should have been part of the app when it was first released… You are given the option to receive notifications from only people you follow, as well as anyone who mentions you. You also get a badge on your Twitter app icon of how many unread notifications you have. I’ve enabled push notifications in my Twitter app and it has been working great. Mentions are getting pushed quickly and the icon badges are a great addition for keeping track of unread mentions and Read More

The words unique to 1-star and 5-star App Store reviews

His script scanned the top 100 apps in every category, ignoring duplicates. Here's what he found. The most frequently-used words in 5-star app reviews were: An interesting list. As Marco points out, note that "simple" is included. They don't like that. *While some folks absolutely love the UI of Twitter for iPad (see here and here and here), others found its unique approach confusing (see here and here and here). GetGlue for iPad Wants to Be Your Couch Surfing Companion
Mini_discussion_bubble ReadWriteWeb - Posted Thu, 09 Sep 2010 19:00:00 UTC +00:00
Social check-in app GetGlue has been making significant strides in the mobile space lately with the release of an Android app following success on the iPhone earlier this summer. Today, the popular app which allows users to check-in, rate and like things like movies, TV shows and music, has come to everyone's favorite "lean back" entertainment device, the iPad. With some added functionality (and more sticker deals to boot), GetGlue hopes its iPad app will become your couch surfing app of choice for "second screen" media interaction. Those familiar with GetGlue on the Web or on their phones will find the iPad app very familiar. As one would expect, the app lets you check-in to the service's 8 standard categories - music, movies, TV shows, books, games, wine, topics and celebrities. The added screen size of the iPad lets you more efficiently like, rate and comment on items without leaving each Read More

Twitter for iPad – app review
Mini_discussion_bubble The iPhone Blog - Posted Tue, 07 Sep 2010 11:46:10 UTC +00:00
By Chad Garrett, Tuesday, Sep 7, 2010 | There is a lot of debate out there about Twitter’s new official universal binary app for iPhone/iPad. The iPad update brings an all new interface to the iPad. What’s new? What’s great? What’s not so great? Let’s start at the beginning… Twitter for iPad brings a new and unique redesign to the Twitter experience that we know and love on the iPhone. Immediately after signing into the application I noticed something that looked, well, odd. The screen was split about 40/60 in portrait mode. Most other Twitter applications I have used took the full screen in portrait. So, I began my usual scrolling through the timeline and all seemed well and good. The familiar release to refresh was there and everything. Next I proceeded to tap a tweet. Boom. This is where my Twitter world turned upside down. Next thing I know there Read More

TUAW Review: Twitter for iPad

As soon as the official Twitter app for iPad (free) hit the App Store, you could tell that it was going to be a controversial app. Immediately, the twitterverse was filled with people either commenting on how much they loved the innovative and unique user interface, and others ranting about how much they despised the UI. One of our bloggers said that she enjoyed the new features of Twitter for iPad so much that she "wanted to have a cigarette after I was done, and I don't even smoke." On the other hand, TJ Luoma reported in his first look at the Twitter app that "... judging by most of the comments of people that I follow on Twitter, the initial reaction is definitely one of 'too busy' and 'over designed.' " Of course, I couldn't leave well enough alone. I have been a fan of Twittelator for iPad ($4.99) since Read More

Twitter App Updated for iPad
Mini_discussion_bubble TheAppleBlog - Posted Thu, 02 Sep 2010 15:21:35 UTC +00:00
Until now, the state of Twitter on the iPad hasn’t been great. There were a few pretty good apps (I’ve been using Tweetdeck), but the field needed a champion. Enter the official Twitter for iPad app. Early this morning, Twitter for iOS was updated as a universal app, bringing a new iPad-specific format to the existing iPhone one. Loren Birchter, the man behind the Twitter app, and Twitter itself has long heralded its arrival. So is it worth the wait? Well, Twitter definitely has the right idea with this app at first glance. Unlike some other third-party clients I could mention, Twitter for iPad takes full advantage of the iPad’s generous screen space, and does so creatively. You won’t find the same sort of columns that Tweetdeck uses, but you will find a modular, multi-pane layout that pushes new content to the right allowing you to navigate through threads of tweets Read More
Hands-on with the official Twitter application for the iPad
Mini_discussion_bubble IntoMobile - Posted Thu, 02 Sep 2010 15:59:14 UTC +00:00
The official Twitter app for iOS has been updated and now runs lean and mean on the Apple iPad. The new Twitter for iPad is optimized for the larger screen of Apple’s tablet device and includes a multi-paned UI that displays a navigation menu and your twitter feed side-by-side. While this layout is utilitarian, it does not expand to fill the whole display of the device and you are left looking at a glaring black border around the main contents of the application. One cool feature that distinguishes the tablet version of the app from the iPhone version is the multi-paned UI that overlays content related to a tweet, including images, web pages, profile information, and more. Clicking on a tweet that contains a link will reveal the contents of the link whether it be a yFrog image or a blog post. Likewise, clicking on a tweet from an individual will reveal Read More
Twitter's New iPad App Shines, but Not Perfect
Mini_discussion_bubble ReadWriteWeb - Posted Thu, 02 Sep 2010 15:32:35 UTC +00:00
Twitter has just launched its first official iPad application, and the reviews so far have been glowing. The new app offers a few notable features, such as panes for interacting with content within a stream, media which displays inline without slowing you down and gesture support for common Twitter actions. What stands out the most about this new application is not a summary of its features, however. It's how the app fits into this growing trend that positions the iPad as the go-to device for consuming streams. With its touchscreen interface, the Apple tablet is ideal for both viewing and interacting with flows of information - not just tweets, but also Facebook status updates, news, RSS feeds, photos and more. With the official Twitter for iPad application, the process for interacting with Twitter's fast-updating stream of content has been addressed through the use of panes. You tap on tweets to open Read More
Twitter for iPad Review: Ahead of the Pack
Mini_discussion_bubble jkOnTheRun - Posted Thu, 02 Sep 2010 14:26:49 UTC +00:00
The folks at Twitter took their time working on the app for the iPad, and my experience with it shows it was time well spent. Having used more Twitter apps than I can count running on multiple platforms, it’s clear this iPad version is better than any of them for following the Twitterverse. Twitter for iPad handles all of the standard Twitter functions in a way that focuses on the user interface. The app serves all functions well in portrait orientation (my favorite for using Twitter), but really shines when the iPad is turned to landscape. The amount of information displayed at all times makes using Twitter an enjoyable interactive experience. The app uses multiple panes that slide into view from the right as needed. When you click on a link in a tweet, the internal browser slides in from the right to display the article, photo or YouTube video. These Read More
Official Twitter app updated for iPad
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 02 Sep 2010 16:00:00 UTC +00:00
A few months ago, Twitter announced that they had acquired Tweetie and the web (I refuse to use the word "blogosphere" because it is a stupid word) exploded with predictions that they had effectively killed off the market for 3rd party Twitter applications by offering a free alternative. With the release of Twitter as a universal app that now includes iPad support (read the official announcement here) I feel confident that the reports of the death of 3rd party Twitter applications have been greatly exaggerated. The UI for Twitter for iPad is, without question, unlike any other Twitter application that we've seen. Opinions around the TUAW offices differ on whether this difference is "awesome" or "an abomination." I definitely range towards the latter end of the scale, and judging by most of the comments of people that I follow on Twitter, the initial reaction is definitely one of "too busy" and Read More

TechCrunch titelt: “Twitter Just Killed Something Else: Their Own Website. Twitter For iPad Is That Good.” und beschreibt damit ‘verschiebbare Fensterelemente’, die man so noch in keiner populären iPad-Anwendung gesehen hat. Read More

Launching tonight in the App Store is Twitter for iPad — the first official native iPad app from the company. New iPad TV ad highlights various apps
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Wed, 18 Aug 2010 17:00:00 UTC +00:00
A new iPad TV ad started airing in the US this week. It begins with the statement "IPad is..." before moving through several adjectives and related apps. For example, a brief appearance by The Photo Cookbook is followed by "delicious." Flipboard is followed by "current," and so on. One interesting tidbit is that when Twitter is shown (followed by "friendly"), the ad shows a close crop of twitter.com. Presumably this is because there's still no official Twitter app for the iPad ("Twitter," formerly Tweetie, is for the iPhone and not a universal app). It's a clever spot that shows off some quality apps while answering the common question, "But what is it for?" Read More
The 30 Best iPhone Apps So Far This Year

About this time last year, he gave us his picks of the best iPhone apps of 2009 up until then, so we thought we’d make it an annual tradition. I’ve been involved in the iPhone app industry since it first began in 2008 and I have to say that it has come a long way. I’ve seen it grow from a meager launch of 500 applications in the App Store to currently over 225,000. In only two years, the industry has matured at hyperspeed. It spawned an entire ecosystem to support it from a multitude of news and editorial resources to developer engines, promotional services and ancillary niches. Instapaper: A Blog Reader’s Killer Service

Any power user or RSS lover that reads a lot of Mac-centric blogs may have heard of Instapaper which is most easily defined as “A simple tool to save web pages for reading later.” After only four days, I’m completely convinced that this is not a tool I could live without. Instapaper’s success is mostly due to the ease of getting content into it. I can send items to Instapaper via a bookmarklet, Chrome Extension, Firefox Extension, NetNewsWire and even my iPhone’s Twitter client. Saving any webpage to Instapaper takes two seconds on a 3G connection and I can read the full webpage (text & images only) on my iPad later. It’s difficult to write about Instapaper without sounding like a total fanboy, but it’s really incredible. It’s probably a good idea to explain how I use Instapaper throughout the day as part of my workflow. First, the app costs $4.99 Read More

Twitter has finally released an app on their own instead of leaving it to other developers. After having purchased the popular Twitter development company Tweetie, the team has decided to release an official Twitter app. The app definitely looks like Twitter and more importantly, tweets like Twitter. User\'s can sign into their account and get right to tweeting and reading other tweets. The app offers all the essentials like lists, @ mentions, direct mentions, and more. The app even supports newer features in the latest iOS 4 release such as background uploading. No longer do you have to keep the app open to upload video and photos to Twitter. Overall, the app really was put together well and definitely deserves a look. It has almost every feature you would want although there are obviously some small tweaks that can still be made. Review: Powermat Wireless Charging System for iPhone
Mini_discussion_bubble iSource - Posted Fri, 18 Jun 2010 18:19:09 UTC +00:00
The Powermat fits right in with the habits you’ve already formed. You probably set your iPhone down on your desk when it’s not in use, and setting the iPhone down on a Powermat is no different — except for the part where it begins to wirelessly recharge your device.  It’s the same kind of magic technology that electric toothbrushes and the Palm Pre’s Touchstone use, and it isn’t a gimmick. I spend a lot of time at my computer desk, and I’ve been surprised at the way my habits have changed, simply because I can charge while untethered, and pick the iPhone up whenever I want to. iPhone 3G/S only Before I get into the meat of the review, it should be stated that the review unit I received is for the iPhone 3G/S only. It won ‘t work for the iPhone 4 or any other iOS devices. The case is built Read More

New Logo/Name, Same Result. Twitter Dominates The App Store
Mini_discussion_bubble TechCrunch - Posted Fri, 21 May 2010 00:57:34 UTC +00:00
It’s amazing what taking one of the best iPhone apps, making it free, and giving it a better name will do. Actually, it’s not. Twitter for iPhone has rocketed to the number 1 app (free app, but undoubtedly overall as well) in the App Store following its release yesterday. And Apple has wasted no time heaping praise on the app in its own way, by making it the coveted iPhone App of the Week in the App Store. Twitter for iPhone, of course, is the new name for Tweetie, the app made by the company Atebits (really, Loren Brichter) until they were acquired by Twitter in April. While Tweetie itself was already extremely popular (that tends to happen when you make the best-of-class app), its popularity is bound to hit a whole different level now. First of all, the app used to cost $2.99, but Twitter decided to make it free. Read More

Twitter's official iPhone app: Any good?
Mini_discussion_bubble CNET iPhone Atlas - Posted Thu, 20 May 2010 16:50:52 UTC +00:00
The official Twitter app is here, and it's a freebie. Last October I conducted a simple poll: What's your favorite iPhone Twitter app? The winner, with around 28 percent of the votes, was Tweetie 2, then a $2.99 app. Last month, Twitter acquired Tweetie, rebranded it, and dropped the price tag. The result: the official Twitter for iPhone, aka Tweetie 3.0. It just landed in the App Store with a hodge-podge of new/improved features and the sure-to-be-popular price of "free." The app now lets you view trends, search, and browse without actually having a Twitter account. You can also sign up for one right inside the app. The search feature has been reorganized and enhanced (results now include Top Tweets, for instance), and Retweet is now part of the main toolbar. Some nice tweaks, sure, but how does Twitter's app stack up against other favorites such as Echofon, TweetDeck, and Twitterific? Read More

‘Tweetie’ heißt jetzt ‘Twitter’ und ‘BeejiveIM for iPad’ erreicht den App Store
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhoneBlog.de - Posted Wed, 19 May 2010 21:24:30 UTC +00:00
Tweetie’s Gone, New Official Twitter App for iPhone Is Here

Tweetie – the hugely popular and acclaimed iPhone Twitter app – is gone; and the new Tweetie-based official Twitter app for iPhone has been released We knew this was coming ever since Twitter bought Tweetie, and knew it would be soon when Tweetie was yanked from the App Store yesterday.  This morning the new, official Tiwtter app is out – available in the US and Canada App Stores now and in others round the world already or soon. A few quick notes on the new app based on just a quick look through it and some brief email conversations with our JAiB team It is the official Twitter app, which has caused some concern for developers of other Twitter apps.  The seller is listed as Twitter, Inc. When Twitter swallowed Tweetie maker Atebits, they declared that an official Twitter client—a la Android's—was on its way. You'll be happy to hear that Twitter has barely changed the iPhone's best Twitter app, except where it counts: Price. The app is currently showing up for Tweetie users as an update, but should be available here any second. It's very familiar: Aside from a new icon and start screen, this is Tweetie 2. The only functional change I've noticed is the new search screen, which includes a trending topics rundown—some of which can be accessed even if you're not logged into a Twitter account. (The idea being that you can glean news from Twitter the second you download the app, and continue to do so without a user account. Twitter lurking, I'll call it.) Other than that, all of Tweetie's best features are here, including the should-be-standard-on-everything pull-down refresh, Tweet swiping (for Read More

RIP Tweetie, hello Twitter! For those of you who don’t know, my favorite Twitter app for iPhone, Tweetie, was acquired by Twitter a few weeks ago. Twitter then rebranded the app to call it “Twitter”. If like me you’re a pretty heavy Twitter user, you might be worried that Twitter will kill the “quote” feature to make it like their own native retweet feature. Before being bought out by Twitter, the app was available for $2.99, but it is now free. You can download it directly from this link. Note that it is not available everywhere yet. Although the link works, I haven’t been able to download it. I guess it needs to propagate through all the servers of the App Store. Read More

Tweetie for iPhone was acquired by Twitter, and has been updated and released as Twitter for iPhone. The good news is that it is now free (Tweetie was US$2.99). It should be hitting the US App Store later tonight, although Tweetie 2 was recently removed from the App Store to make way for Twitter for iPhone. You can continue to use Tweetie 2 (or Tweetie 1) but only until the end of June, due to changes in the way Twitter is handling logins. All Twitter applications are going to have to be updated before then, or else they will no longer be able to log in. Those of you who have been holding onto Birdfeed, this means you too. You will have to "authorize" Twitter for iPhone. This authorization means that if you change your password, you can still use Twitter for iPhone. The AppStore is a continuously changing landscape of mobile apps as far as eye can see, especially when it comes to updating apps like Tweetie 2. As you might recall, the popular Twitter client for the iPhone was bought out by Twitter itself. Following that deal, Tweetie 2 was unceremoniously taken down from the AppStore last night. Today, the app emerges from its sudden black-out mode with a new name – Twitter for iPhone is now live! The official Twitter app follows the launch of the micro-blogging service’s Twitter for Android app late last month. Today, Twitter for iPhone is reportedly going live on the AppStore. iPhone applications that have not been optimized for iPad yet don’t look so good on the iPad. Sure you have the option to blow up the iPhone apps by hitting the “2x” button, but the pexilization is so bad that it makes this feature almost useless. For those of you who jailbroke your iPad with the newly released Spirit (see Spirit jailbreak tutorial), there is a solution that will allow you to blow up your apps to fit the full screen, without having the dirty pixelization. I initially saw this on Remond Pie but the instructions didn’t work at all for me. So I dug a bit more and I found something on ModMyI that perfectly worked for me. Step 1: Download iPhoneBrowser and launch it. In Cydia, download Afc2Add and reboot your iPhone. Step 2: Plug your iPad in and navigate to /var/mobile/Applications. Today Loren Brichter, the developer behind Tweetie [App Store, $2.99], announced that Tweetie for iPhone has been acquired by Twitter. According to the post on his blog, Brichter is joining Twitter’s mobile team to begin transforming “Tweetie” into “Twitter” for both the iPhone and the iPad. Additionally, Twitter has announced that Tweetie will soon be renamed “Twitter for iPhone” and made free for iPhone and iPod touch users. No release dates have been announced as of yet, but we’re guessing it won’t take too long! Not mentioned in either post is the fate of Tweetie for Mac. Both Twitter and Brichter referred to the “Twitter mobile team,” indicating that Twitter may not have acquired Tweetie for Mac. If this turns out to be the case, Mac users who have been waiting (a long time) for the long-promised next version may have to wait much longer than previously thought. Instapaper Pro has been updated to version 2.2. Its creator, Marco Arment, wrote about some of the process behind adding a new feature called "Return to Position." If you enjoy hearing developers sweat the details, it's a great read. There's also a full changelog for those who want more details on the new version. I've been using Instapaper Pro a lot more recently after making a few changes to my workflow on my iPhone and Mac. I set up the "Read Later" bookmarklet installed properly from the Instapaper website. (An even easier method is to use Quix which I mentioned the other day.) I also started following the "companion site" Marco started especially for Instapaper called "Give Me Something To Read" which is a selection of interesting articles hand-picked by Richard Dunlop-Walters. The last step was setting up Tweetie 2 on the iPhone to send web pages I wanted to read Read More

I used to be a HUGE fan of Tweetie until Tweetie 2. Some of my favorite features were removed like the dark theme and I don’t really like the new retweet feature and the quote feature only lets you use “via” instead of “RT”. Anyway, this is a really kewl video from the developer speaking at Standford University back in May of 2009. It’s a kewl inside view to app developing and more support for why some apps should be paid and not free. Oh, and be prepared, it’s 30 minutes long. Read More

This was an intriguing experiment undertaken over at Minimal Mac: Patrick decided to play a little Homescreen Survivor with his iPhone app icons -- he cleared everything off his homescreen, and then only let those apps back on which he used more than once throughout the course of a week. The result? You can see here which ones made it back on. Contacts, Calendar, Camera all showed up, not surprisingly. Photos did as well -- I don't use that one much, but I can see why. Everything else seems to be his own personal use: Tumblr's app, two different Twitter apps (Birdhouse and Tweetie), and then Simplenote and so on. But the real point here isn't what apps he used, it's just how different his homescreen looked when he only put what he used on there. I'll admit it: my iPhone is a mess -- I've got icons all over the Read More

Get ready, because I'm about to tell you how to spend those iTunes gift cards you got for Christmas. I've selected an eclectic little group of apps that includes games, productivity tools, chat and more, and it makes a great starter kit for anyone who's new to the iPhone. There are hundreds of Twitter apps for iPhone in the App Store but after weeding out those with useless features, bad UI and the such, it basically comes down to a handful of applications that deserve our attention. I’ve been asking people on Twitter what’s their favorite iPhone Twitter app and I’ve been keeping track of the results. I’ve also had a close look at these 2 polls to come up with what I think is the ultimate list of the best iPhone apps for Twitter. Of course we all have our favorites (mine is Tweetie 2), but we have to agree that the following apps are “la creme de la creme” of Twitter clients on the iPhone. For each application, I will also highlight what YOU like about them, according to my survey on Twitter. The big winner is of course Tweetie 2 [iTunes Link]. Rewritten from the ground up Read More

The Best Twitter Apps for iPhone and Android Just Got Better [Twitter]

Some of the best of Twitter apps just got a lot better with fresh updates—Tweetie 2.1 and Birdfeed 1.2 on the iPhone, and Twidroid 3.0 on Android. Here's what new and awesomer: Birdfeed 1.2 The biggest change in Birdfeed 1.2 is geolocation using the official Twitter API, which embeds the location of a tweet as metadata, unlike previous Twitter app geolocation powers, which were workarounds. It's probably my favorite implementation since it's the dead simplest, with a tap adding location to any tweet. Also new and excellent is support for Flickr, designed in a fairly elegant way. Of course, there's a bunch of smaller tweaks too, and now it's only $3, down from $5. It's still my favorite looking/feeling Twitter app. Tweetie 2.1 Tweetie 2.1 has a bunch of gut changes that add up to a better experience. The big things are that there's now native support for Twitter's new official Read More

Tweetie 2.1 Update Brings List Support, New Retweet Implementation
Mini_discussion_bubble TheAppleBlog - Posted Mon, 30 Nov 2009 18:00:38 UTC +00:00
Not one to be outdone by Twittelator Pro’s most recent update, atebits’ latest update for Tweetie 2 (iTunes link) brings implementations of the two newest official Twitter features: Lists and Retweet. As someone who isn’t particularly crazy about the official retweet implementation, I’m not so excited about that, but there’s still a “Quote Tweet” option as well, which lets you do things the old way. There’s a lot of other new features and improvements, too, including tweet geotagging, spam reporting via the official Twitter API, What the Trend explanation of trending topics, and more. Once again, Tweetie has returned to the top of the heap, in terms of both functionality and UI. Lists can be created, edited, managed and viewed, all from within Tweetie 2 now. That means if users post links in the “@user/list” format, you’ll be able to just click on it to view said list. Your own list Read More

As announced it integrates all Twitter new goodies like lists or retweets. Furthermore it improves the geolocalisation function. Tweetie 2.1 Twitter Client for iPhone Brings Geotag, Lists, New-Style Re-Tweets
Mini_discussion_bubble The iPhone Blog - Posted Mon, 30 Nov 2009 03:57:02 UTC +00:00
By Rene Ritchie, Sunday, Nov 29, 2009 | Tweetie 2.1 [$2.99 - iTunes link] — a FREE upgrade for Tweetie 2.0 users — brings support for Twitter’s new Geotag feature (so everyone will know where exactly you’re tweeting from), Twitter lists (what lists you have, what lists you subscribe to, though not the likely less-wieldly lists you’re on), and the controversial new-style re-tweets (where you see the original tweeter in your timeline, not the person you’re following who re-tweeted it). There are other additions as well: report spam (via API), tweet-stream “gap” detection (looks like a torn gap in your timeline), and a tone of other stuff (including disable pin-stripes for the pixel-haters). So how does Tweetie 2.1 handle all this new stuff? With Atebit’s trademark buttery-smooth UI. Geotag is a new icon under the tweet-count drop-down menu. One of the top Twitter clients for iPhone has been refreshed: Tweetie 2.1 is now available in the App Store [iTunes link]. Our friend Christina previewed the new features in 2.1 for Mashable last week, and the updated version delivers with support for Twitter lists, the Retweet capability, spam reporting, and geotagging of tweets (opt-in and optional, so don't worry that Tweetie is going to supercharge your stalkers without telling you). The full list of changes and features is on the app's iTunes page, and it's impressive. Among the many improvements and tweaks is a crucial bug fix for an issue that had caused many 2.0 users (myself included) to gnash our teeth in frustration: the older version had a lot of problems saving state, causing old updates to appear again and, in the worst-case situation, old tweets to be sent repeatedly. It was aggravating, and it kept me from using Read More

The much-anticipated Twitter client Tweetie 2.1 has finally arrived on the iPhone. It's the first major update to Tweetie 2, and it features support for Lists, Geotagging and native retweets. One of the most-anticipated changes is the way the app displays retweets, with a small version of the retweeter's icon inset on the original poster's. The "quote tweet" option is still available, so if you're a fan of the old-style retweets, you can still use them just as easily. Tweetie 2.1's support for the list feature includes the ability to create, edit and view lists. To access it, just go to your profile and scroll down. Other people's lists, of course, are found on their own profile pages. In terms of geolocation, tweets sent using Twitter's new geotag support will show up with a red pin icon in the corner. My top pick for this week is Into Infinity, a new sound toy from the folks at dublab. Plus, I’ve also been looking at Twiku, iCombat Lite and Mactracker. The iPhone seems to be just the right platform for interacting with sound, so whenever a new sound toy hits the App Store I’ve just got to take a look. Tweetie 2.1 Coming Soon With Retweet, Geolocation, And Some List Support
Mini_discussion_bubble TechCrunch - Posted Mon, 02 Nov 2009 23:09:35 UTC +00:00
By now, Tweetie 2 has probably stormed your iPhone. If not, you should check it out; in our opinion, it’s the best Twitter iPhone app out there (and yes, definitely worth the $3 [iTunes link]). But developer Loren Brichter isn’t resting on his laurels. Instead, he’s hard at work on Tweetie 2.1. So what’s new? Well, there are a ton of small bug fixes, but also some pretty big additions. There are two that you’ll probably care the most about: New-style rewtweets and geolocation support. We got an early alpha build of 2.1 to try out, and it’s looking good. Retweets While Twitter has yet to enable the new-style retweets or geolocation for most accounts, Tweetie 2.1 offers a glimpse of how it will work. Tweets from accounts with the new retweet function show up in Tweetie 2.1′s stream. As promised, these are the tweets from the actual person who originally Read More
Apps of the Month: Best iPhone Apps of October 2009
Mini_discussion_bubble MobileCrunch - Posted Mon, 02 Nov 2009 17:23:09 UTC +00:00
100,000. That’s the number of iPhone apps that have been approved to be sold on Apple’s App Store. So how the hell do you decide which ones to buy? Well, you could surf through the App Store’s featured list, but that means you’re only buying the ones Apple wants you to buy. Or, you could scour through the App Store’s Genius recommendations – which are still not perfect in my opinion. To help you with this problem, we’re going to create a “best of” list of the iPhone apps we enjoyed the most each month. The first edition is for October 2009. Admittedly, this one doesn’t have as many indie apps as we would like, so we’re going to provide every developer with a way to get on the list. To submit an app for our “Apps of the Month” list, send details of your app (and, preferably, a review code) Read More

Tweetie 2.0
Mini_discussion_bubble AppVee - Posted Wed, 21 Oct 2009 06:20:53 UTC +00:00
Tweetie has been hailed as arguably the best twitter app for the iPhone and is used by many twitter users as their goto twitter app. Well now the second iteration of the popular app has been released and along with it comes a ton of great interface changes and speed improvements. With this new version of the app, users will have to pay again to get it but it is arguably worth the price being asked. The speed is top notch in this version of the app and refreshing your lists is as easy as pulling down and releasing. Landscape mode has been added as well as numurous compose features such as recent hashtags, @people picker and url shortening. The feature list is huge and almost impossible to cover in one short review. There are a few complaints though. Tweetie 1.0 had the ability to pick themes which has now been Read More

Poll: What's your favorite iPhone Twitter app?
Mini_discussion_bubble CNET iPhone Atlas - Posted Mon, 12 Oct 2009 17:55:00 UTC +00:00
Tweetie 2 adds a boatload of new features, including persistence: It returns you to where you left off the last time you used the app. Twitter apps are like candy bars: everybody's got a favorite. For me it's Milky Way and TweetDeck. Of course, there's always room for change. For instance, the Take 5 bar is increasingly my go-to treat (better hide your Halloween stash, kids), and I might just jump ship to Tweetie 2, which debuted in the App Store over the weekend. Priced at $2.99, Tweetie's the top-paid app in the Social Networking section of the store. New features in version 2 include an offline mode, new-message indicators, full landscape support, video uploads (for 3GS users), and faster overall performance. So this begs the question: what's your favorite Twitter app, and why? Vote in our poll! And, hey, if you're headed to the comments to talk up Twitter apps, Read More

Boxcar Reminds Us It’s Columbus Day With A Sale
Mini_discussion_bubble Apple iPhone Apps - Posted Mon, 12 Oct 2009 13:57:34 UTC +00:00
Did you know today was Columbus Day?  I know I didn’t until I stumbled upon Boxcar‘s Columbus Day sale. Boxcar is a push-enabled Twitter, Facebook, and email app, at least in a sense.  It isn’t meant to replace any of your favorite apps, it just makes them more useful with Push Notifications.  Boxcar, when it was first released, was able to send you Push Notifications when you received mentions and direct messages via Twitter, but now it is even more powerful with the ability to send Push Notifications for Twitter trends and searches, Facebook notifications and messages, and emails. Boxcar now supports loads of different Twitter apps, including Twittelator, Tweetie, Tweetie 2, Twitterrific, Echofon, SimplyTweet, and many more.  And, of course, it supports the Facebook iPhone app, so no matter which service you choose to use, Boxcar should be able to open it. Boxcar is normally priced at $2.99, but today and Read More

Tweetie for iPhone hits 2.0
Mini_discussion_bubble Download Squad - Posted Sat, 10 Oct 2009 16:30:00 UTC +00:00
by Nik Fletcher on October 10, 2009 at 11:30 AM We've covered iPhone Twitter clients to death here on Download Squad, but we simply couldn't help but post about Tweetie 2.0 which launched just yesterday. If you're not familiar with Tweetie - which won an Apple Design Award earlier in the year for version 1 - it's often touted as the best Twitter client for the iPhone platform, and this new version raises the bar in terms of features and experience. There's a tonne of new features (and an all-new underlying core to the application) - so here's just a few of my favourites that I've noticed: Tweetie 2.0 also heads into uncharted territory by being the first iPhone app to have a paid upgrade. Whilst this has caused much bickering from certain "celebrities", given that a copy of Tweetie 2.0 is just $2.99 for all users it's not going to Read More

Tweetie 2 is now on the App Store
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Sat, 10 Oct 2009 06:00:00 UTC +00:00
Tweetie 2, the upgrade to the extremely popular app from atebits for Mac and iPhone, is now available on the App Store [iTunes Link]. The upgrade, as you probably know, costs $2.99 for new or existing users of Tweetie. It seems like it's been somewhat of a long wait, but you can finally go over to the App Store to download it. Tweetie 2 for Mac is still coming sometime soon, as the iPhone version was intended to be released first. What do think of Tweetie 2? How does it compare to the other Twitter apps for the iPhone. Tweetie 2 Descends From The AppStore Gods. What A Day It’s Been!
Mini_discussion_bubble The App Era - Posted Sat, 10 Oct 2009 01:40:53 UTC +00:00
October 9th, 2009 James Isabel You’ve heard the arguments from both sides. But the question remains, is the new app worth upgrading to? What’s New? Mashable seems to like the app and summarizes some of the new version’s best features: How many of those features are in our favorite Twittelator Pro twitter iPhone client? We’ll leave that question open for now. Decision… Regarding the question whether to get it or not, we’ll be quick to say this: if you want Tweetie’s design and implementation, grab it. If you think you want more features and editable settings, go find another client. That’s our initial decision until we get to play with the app a little more, and as we discover some of its hidden wealth (if there’s any). For now, approach at your own risk… You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site. Read More

The $2.99 app is a major improvement to the popular Tweetie app. In fact, it is a complete rewrite of the original app (we discuss this and more in our in-depth preview of Tweetie 2.0). It combines the best aspects of Tweetie for Mac and for iPhone. Here are some of the new features you can expect to see if you decide to take the plunge: - Support for the new retweet feature. - Threaded conversations - Link your Twitter contacts to your Address Book - Preview short URLs - Landscape support - A new attachment manager - Auto-saves what you were doing whenever you quit. another terrible update
Juan-Lee Pang 1.0 stars Version: 4.1
Since they changed the width to not reach the edges and removed the ability to make the font size smaller this app has been garbage. Also, there should be a tab for direct messages. it's super annoying to have to go to the profile tab to look at your DMs. Use Tweetbot instead.
new Update, massive fail !!!!
hoserjpb 1.0 stars Version: 2.1
New retweet not working right
abbymxoxo 4.0 stars Version: 2.1.1
I really like this app but it needs push notifications & I would like it if my tweet was sent along with my picture to Twitpic.
Get Twittelator Pro Instead
PerfectCr 2.0 stars Version: 2.1
It's rare that an app gets WORSE after a major update, but somehow Tweetie managed to pull that off. Doesn't come close to matching Twittelator in terms of features. Tweetie 2 does not have Audio Tweet support nor does it have any themes at all (which is odd since Tweetie 1 does). This list goes on. Don't bother.
Simply the best iPhone Twitter app.
stenro 4.0 stars Version: 2.1.1
If you use Twitter, this app is a must. It has just about every feature you could want to enhance your Twitter experience (with the exception of push notifications.) Is it worth $3? Yes. I'm frugal and used some of the free ones and have zero regrets about paying for this. As for those other comments, you can retweet with comments- it's called quoting. It had that besides the native Tetweet.
This is Great App!! but I need more option...
@moridew 5.0 stars Version: 2.1.1
It's Great Application! Wow!! Thanks. But I need one option. i want use old style RT (EX) bla bla bla bla RT @username: bla bla bla bla plaese check it!
The "Surprise" thing is a joke!
joueboy 1.0 stars Version: 2.1.2
I paid this app for $2.99 now the 2.1.2 update comes with advertising. Somehow this app is still for sale is a joke also. Twitter bought this company and they said that this app is free in the next couple of days. Don't buy and don't update. Looking forward for the updated free version.
Latest upgrade bad
Texbard 3.0 stars Version: 2.1
Things were fine before the upgrade. Now I'm getting re-tweets in my newsfeed of people I follow by people I don't follow. Also, if I retweet a retweet, it no longer shows who I re-tweeted from, only the original source. Makes it look like I'm not giving credit. New graphics (the arrows) also make it difficult to tell who original source is. Liked it much better before. But the deal- breaker is all those extra re- tweets by people I don't follow. If that doesn't get fixed I'll be looking for a new Twitter ap.
Still can't update location
Doshout 1.0 stars Version: 2.1
not talking about the geotag feature... we still can't update the location setting. Funny how it's got a nice search for nearby users with a cool map and radar, yet NO way to update your location inside Twitter for you to show up on the cool map. Also, the RT isn't working correctly. Not showing up in the timeline!!!
It was a great app...
chrismiller262 4.0 stars Version: 2.1
I have loved Tweetie for the past year... However, this latest update (v2.1) uses the new Twitter retweet feature, which I am not a fan of. The fact that Tweetie doesn't give you the option to use the old school RT style and hide the new retweets from my feed has caused me to move on to a different app... Sad, because other than that, this app the most Twitter app out there.
Simply Tweet has Push Notifications
calm_tiger 2.0 stars Version: 2.1
The only thing that keeps this app from being elite is the lack of push notifications like simply tweet. So I'll keep using Simply Tweet for now.
Bring back old RT!!!!!
Kingspider 3.0 stars Version: 2.1
I love Tweetie but 2.1 screws up RT. 1) I want to SEE my RT in my timeline! 2) I want to be able to add my 2 cents to my RT. Please change RT back and/or give us options. Thanks! then u get 5 stars.
Dissappointed
Goodtimesya 2.0 stars Version: 2.1
While I won't disagree that this app is beautiful and feature filled, there are simple things about it that I would have expected from any Twitter app much less a paid one, but failed to see in tweetie. 2 The following are regular aspects that I've come to assume are a given from experience with free apps like echofon and twitterific. But those assumptions are falsified by this app. 1.) highlighting unread tweets with some sort of color 2.) option to auto scroll to first unread tweet 3.) able to read at least to the past 200 tweets (as compared to a measly 90 from tweetie) 4.) quickly clicking a link on a tweet from friends tweets timeline (in tweetie, you first have to click the tweet, click the link, and choose 'open link' from the options, wait for it to load and then see the link) 5.) option to show how many unread tweets you have as indicated by a number inside a red bubble 6.) having all avatars shown. (for some strange reason, on certain users profile, the avatar is just blank even tho on the regular website it's fine) Just wish these simple yet necessary things can be included in a future update and not just inclusion of new features.
Ruins Retweets!
michael_swengel 1.0 stars Version: 2.1
Don't update to 2.1! 2.1 kills retweets and uses the new official Retweet 'feature' of Twitter. Ugh! There is still a /via @(user) (tweet) option called "repost" but there needs to be an option for RT @(user) (tweet). When I contacted the developer about this he was indifferent and rude - claiming that he wants to make Twitter better with this decision. Well, newsflash: we've been using RT @... since the beginning of Twitter. Complete unwillingness to give us an option and developer rudeness have turned me off to Tweetie. Tweetie 1 was great. Tweetie 2.1 is an epic fail. My advice: DO NOT BUY until this is fixed. Tweetdeck is much better now.
Simply, the BEST Twitter client for iPhone.
Tuz 5.0 stars Version: 2.1
Loren is a superb developer who made the right decision to charge for Tweetie 2 as a whole new app due to the amount of work he put into it, basically, re-building the app from the ground up. Now, with 2.1, he's kept Tweetie on top of the stack of twitter clients by supporting all of the new features Twitter has rolled out recently (lists, geolocation, retweets). No other client is as much of a pleasure to use as this one. Get it. Now.
Tweetie 2?
❡üí✪ 3.0 stars Version: 2.0
So, atebits, instead of updating the tweetie app, they came up with Tweetie 2 just to get another $3. That's is not a good business. I love the tweetie app, and I wished that instead of having to buy an update, I got a free one just like any other app.
Pay for an update?
DarK SouL 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
Why do we have to pay for an update? Totally not worth your money.
Echofon is better
JJerryJerrold 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
Echofon is better and free. Why would you not somehow mark new tweets? Color, badge, something? Rookie mistake.
A few concerns.
paloooz 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
I love this client, don't get me wrong. There were a few really bad design decisions that went into it that I had to 1 it. I'm speaking of course, about the the anacronistic pintriping, the removal of themes, most importantly the chat bubbles theme, and the reverse chronological DM threads. These are all terrible. Once an update comes out that fixes these bugs, I'll definitely be changing this to 5 stars.
Miffed
Lolasmommy358 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
The app is good but nothing more than an update from Tweetie. It's the same thing with little tweaks here and there. I wouldn't have paid for this if it wasn't one of my most used apps. It is absolutely ridiculous that they want you to pay ANOTHER $2.99 for an update. It's sad that they are so money-hungry and care so little about their customers. There is more to business than $$$! You'd make the money anyway, there's no reason to play dirty! Dissapointing. :(
Don't take out useful features of past versions
JohnnyARL 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
Especially if you are going to charge for the update There hadn't been an update in a year and with this new version there was ground to make up when it came to features. But what happens? No dark theme, no ping.fm. Tweetie's UI is nice, has always been but I'd like to know I'm getting a work in progress that will get better over time. Not something pretty that not only doesn't do everything it should do but might never do them even though it could. Will this V2 have a mediocre update in 4 months and then after a year of nothing will it have another paid update to get rid of a few more useful features that were in V1? Buy echofon instead.
It's ok
Cogitator X 2.0 stars Version: 2.0
The changes didn't warrent the extra 2.99. It needs push notifications & themes to be complete.
Yay for all the bling but...
sande007 2.0 stars Version: 2.0
It doesn't offer one of the more baic features of highlighting or identifying new tweets. Guess I'll stay with my free program that does...
It's ok but nit great
nmtp82 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
The free Twitter apps do all what this app does I just bought it to see if it was better waist of money
Where are the themes?
(Klondike) 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
Where are the themes at? The only reason I even like Tweetie 1 was because of the chat bubble theme and now that's gone. What a waste of money.
Missing key things
Chiefhiawatha 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
1. New tweets are the same color as old. 2. Cannot click on URL to get right to page. It's always a 2 step deal.
Worth another $3
BigPoppaJerome 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
If you are thinking "why get this when I have the old Tweetie?" STOP. This is not just an upgrade, this is a completly new app. The most user friendly, feature rich Twitter app you can find. It is leaps and bounds past all others (even it's old self)
love it!
Itartistpdf 5.0 stars Version: 2.0

good but not good enough.
russelbutt 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
I have the original tweetie, twitterific, twitterfon, tweetdeck and simplytweet. i was looking forward to tweetie 2, hoping that maybe they would've taken the best parts of all those other Twitter apps and make an all in one twitter ultimate app. I was sorely dissapointed. there are a lot of things missing. most importantly push notifications. the landscape mode is nice. but the theme is ugly. even the original tweetie had themes. the interface just doesnt look polished enough. there is still no feature that auto updates your timeline either. for the time being I'm going to go back and keep using simplytweet. no wonder that app costs twice as much as tweetie 2 does. you get what you pay for. i wish I could get a refund for this app. I suggest you either stick with the original tweetie, or step up and get simplytweet.
Awesome
benexclaimed 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
This is an improvement over the original in nearly every considerable way. The interface is really, really polished and I love it. With that being said, I do miss the ability to switch themes. Also, I wish you'd bring back the colorful follow buttons. Neither of these affect the usability of Tweetie, but they'd both be welcome additions for future updates.
The only Twitter client for iPhone
generationofghosts 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
If you already have Tweetie, delete it. Purchase and download Tweetie 2. Its sort of like comparing iPhone Edge to iPhone 3GS...the speed and slickness of the interface is that much more advanced than it's predecessor. Add in offline viewing, video uploads, drafts, push notifications for selected users, filtering for selected users, and again, the speed, and this will replace every Twitter client for the iPhone.

If you're familiar with the original Tweetie you most likely know how great an app this is. If you're used to other Twitter apps you'll have to give it a few minutes and "click around" or read some of the tutorials out there to see the real power behind this app. On the surface it's really simple (good thing) but if you're used to a ton of buttons/links you might be initially dissapointed. Believe me, everything you could want (with the exception of tweetdeck-like groups) is there! Amazing job!
Whole new app!

I was skeptical at first since I love Tweetie 1 with a passion, but I could not refuse the hype that this new app now has and I got it. It's amazingly great and runs pertty smooth, definately a favorite of mine now!
I love the feel and look of this app

I really wish that this was just an upgrade from the original tweetie but i will suffer my 2.99. This Twitter client is a all in one app you can do picture and video. Make twitter more enjoyable!
Met the promise

By far the best app for Twitter today! Tweetie was awesome, but Tweetie 2 sets the bar even higher.

Love the nearby feature, very cool, the new design is simple yet elegent. Features... well its pretty much everything i need and im sure even enough for the super twitter user. The drafts feature is also very nice. But most of all the TextExpander support is critical!!
Another great version

I just downloaded it and took it for a spin and it is just great. The "pull down and release" to refresh your feed is a simple but fantastic idea. Atebits really know simplicity. Great UI and new nice stuff like in app email of tweets etc. Solid!
GREAT!

so compared to tweetie 1, this is a great step up. it is much more intuitive and loads much faster! i also love how to refresh, it's so easy! everything is also much easier to get to and i like how the trends are already listed instead of having to tap trends and then wait for it to load. overall, i highly recommend this, especially if you have tweetie. i support atebits and that is why i don't mind paying another $2.99 for an app that essentially does the same thing. the one thing that i don't like is that there is no option to choose a theme like in the original tweetie. i absolutely hate the simple theme and i much prefer the dark theme, it is much easier on the eyes. i'm not sure if i will use this as my primary twitter app unless the dark theme is added, that's how much it bothers me. but that is just a personal preference and i still highly recommend this to everyone because it is a giant leap from tweetie 1! thanks atebits!

The Best Got Better
Penguin Tail 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Tweetie was always great and version 2 is even better. I don't need to repeat all the features here again. I just want to assure you that it is indeed worth the price!
The best Twitter app. Better!
adamjackson 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Tweetie was the best. I've tried over 15 apps and nothing came close to tweetie 1. Now, I'm using version two and it's the best single improvment of any application update I've ever used. Tweetie 2's upgrade price is justified and the feature set+improvements are excellent!
Best Twitter App

I'm lucky, I've been beta-testing nearly every Tweetie iteration, and this is the best one by far. Atebits has hit it out of the park, delivering the most stable, fast, beautiful, full-featured, and awesome Twitter app to date. Do yourself a favor and try this out to see the ultimate example of an incredible mixture of style and substance.
THE BEST!
