If you’re after an App Store bargain this weekend, then here are a few which certainly fit the bill! Firemint have reduced their three Real Racing games to far more manangeable prices, and are certainly worth a go thanks to their excellent graphics and decent control system. Continuing the automotive theme is Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, which gets a 50% reduction to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Both the iPhone and the iPad version are reduced, and you’ve got until Sunday to grab either one for this price. Joining the above titles on sale this weekend are several Adult Swim titles, all of which have been reduced to $0.99/£0.59, including: Next up we have Capcom’s Devil May Cry 4 Refrain, which has been treated to a special limited time discount: If photography apps are your thing, then take a look at TrueHDR. The app has been updated to version 2.2

As a frequent landscape photographer, I've enjoyed exploring HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging for quite some time. With HDR, your camera takes multiple images, usually at different shutter speeds, to capture both bright and dark areas at their best. Then the images are combined with software. Although most of my work is with a Canon DSLR, I've been impressed with some of the iPhone HDR apps that can help you get some really nice pictures under difficult lighting conditions. Although Apple includes HDR software in the iPhone 4, I've found that both Pro HDR and TrueHDR can give superior results. TrueHDR has just released a big update to its app, and now offers Geo-tagging support, better alignment algorithms and some improvements in the light metering software. I've tried the app, and I do like the quality of the images it produces. My only complaint is it takes a bit too long

posted by D. St. Charles on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at 6:28 pm. Scientists at M.I.T and Columbia University, among others, suggest the future of digital cameras may not be more megapixels or better lenses, but rather the digital manipulation of the data through a discipline called computational photography. One scientist at M.I.T. is working on a camera that doesn’t even use a lens to see objects around corners. Lasers fire pulses of light and the rebounding data is used to model the structure of the unseen landscape. And the scientific applications are not relegated to unobtainable hardware. M.I.T’s Camera Culture group is also experimenting with the humble smartphone in the form of the Nokia N900, aka the Frankencamera. They’ve hacked the phone’s Linux operating system and suggest real innovations are possible once anyone can program the camera and try their hand at computational photography. Two apps are available in the

Außerdem verstecken sich innerhalb der Ordner folgende Apps*: Amazon.de (kostenlos; App Store-Link), Convertbot (1.59 €; App Store-Link), AnalyticsPro (5.49 €; App Store-Link), Delivery Status touch (3.99 €; universal; App Store-Link), Dropbox (kostenlos; universal; App Store-Link), iCabMobile (1.59 €; universal; App Store-Link), Skype (kostenlos; App Store-Link), WeatherPro (2.99 €; App Store-Link), Pastebot (2.99 €; App Store-Link), LogMeIn (23.99 €; universal; App Store-Link), OffMaps (1.59 €; universal; App Store-Link), Kik (kostenlos; App Store-Link), PayPal (kostenlos; App Store-Link), Linkie (0.79

We've been keeping a close eye on the race for the best HDR (high dynamic range) photo app for the iPhone. In my latest survey, I advised that progress would be fast as paid apps move to compete with the free Apple HDR software, and that's what's happened. TrueHDR, a US$1.99 app, has been updated to add a fast Autocapture mode and a SemiAuto mode (where you can drag the exposure control points around to get the best picture). I thought it was worth another quick look in order to see how the updated TrueHDR compares to Pro HDR ($1.99) and the built-in iPhone 4 camera (with and without the HDR processing). My results were similar to the last test, although TrueHDR takes the photos faster. Sadly, it still lags in processing, taking 48 seconds to deliver a finished image. Pro HDR takes 24 seconds, and Apple's built in HDR delivers

After each Apple press event, there is a visible track of turbulence online, in the technology market and on Wall Street that some cannot help but get caught within. There is no denying that when Apple decides to head in a particular direction, it will lead. And all that is left for the rest of us to decide is whether or not we will follow or get out-of-the-way. When you continually take such wide strides in innovation, intentional or unintentional, there will always be casualties. In 2010 alone, Apple held no less than five major media events that in some way affected the way markets were defined and revenues were earned for a significant number of companies. This year we have witnessed the fall of HP’s Slate that Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer introduced at CES, a massive shift in consumer purchasing behavior in the netbook market and media moguls struggle with the

It must be the week for HDR app updates. Yesterday we reviewed a solid update of TrueHDR, and now we have another terrific update from Even if you're not into HDR photography, this is one to check out. High Dynamic Range photography creates an image from multiple exposures that are combined to overcome the limitations of automatic exposure control in cameras. The technique can recover details that would be lost in shadows, and keep bright areas, like the sky from blowing out. The update to Pro HDR, which has just been released, has a new fully automatic mode. Instead of taking two pictures with your iPhone, and manually pointing to the brightest and darkest areas, this new option analyzes the scene, sets the exposure accordingly, and then takes the two images without any user intervention. You can also use the manual mode if you prefer. The app also claims faster image

HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography isn't for everyone, but it can really help when taking pictures with extreme shadow or light. HDR images basically combine two or more pictures taken at different exposures. Using a process called tone mapping, you get a new image that displays more detail in the darker areas and restrains the areas that are too bright. TrueHDR for the iPhone has been updated to support the full resolution of the iPhone cameras, both front and back. It now supports the Retina Display, and claims better image alignment and more natural looking results. I've reviewed the original version and today I gave the new version a try. The updated app works as advertised, although I was a little short of dramatic scenery for my tests. The added resolution and quality of the iPhone 4 camera makes a welcome difference. I used Pro HDR, a similar app, on a

I’m trying to get into the habit of taking two or three shots every time I see a scene or object I like so that I have more material for TrueHDR to work with. This set of shots was taken yesterday along on my walk home, and it really only took a couple of seconds to find an angle I liked and then take the over and underexposed shots. After that it was just a matter of loading up TrueHDR, combining the two pictures, and ending up with a much more colourful picture that came much closer to what I actually saw. What I really love is how much of the sky you can see in the HDR shot as opposed to either of the two “extreme” shots I started out with. I’ve already reviewed the $1.99 app on JAiB, but the pictures in that piece didn’t really do the app

This app works very well. I wish it were compatible with IOS5's capability of using the volume button for a shutter release. Other than that, it is a fine little app, well worth the price.

Simple and good but not perfect

Version: 2.3.2
Easy to use and does take nice pictures. But does take a long time to work (30 sec.). Could just be my 3GS though. One bug to fix is that after saving a photo it takes you bak to the title screen instead of immediately back to the camera. Overall a very good app.

Version: 1.0.1
WOW, this ap really makes your pictures pop! I took a photo from inside, looking at the view out the window. Without this app, the window would have blown everything out, but but by focusing one shot on the window and one on the inside area around the window, I got a great shot that showed both the inside of the house and the view out the window. 2 Thumbs Up!
Love it, even red

I get great results! Thanks, you developer whizzes!
For some reason, in each of my experimental pictures so far TrueHDR has radically shifted the color balance. For example, brown wood furniture ends up red. Seems unnecessary.
However, I'm thrilled to get the benefit of literally hundreds of man-hours of expensive programmer time for the cost of a Starbucks cookie. I plan to make lots of use of TrueHDR. Thanks again.
AMAZING

Incredible app

Version: 1.0.1
Great results. I find it's pretty easy to quickly take a couple of shots and then come out with a beautiful looking picture. Both highlights and shadows come out really well. Having the camera right in the app is very convenient, and the interface makes it simple to use. I think this will make the camera *a lot* more useful - all in all, it's sort of an addictive app!
excellent app, great results

Version: 1.0.1
The dynamic range of the iPhone camera is pretty limited and this app works around that limitation by creating one great looking image from two photographs at different exposures. The click-to-auto-expose feature of the iPhone 3GS makes taking two shots with different exposures easy. The app then merges these shots into a single natural looking image with details in both the highlights and shadows. The results are way better than I was expecting.
Remarkable enhancement to the iPhone camera
sciteacher21
Version: 1.0.1
It allows you to capture a much larger range of brightness, from very dim to very bright. Its like having a high dynamic range camera in your pocket. Its great for taking pictures of nature. I also used it to take some interior pictures and they came out great. A truly superior app.
