The Best of the Holiday iPhone Game Sales and Freebies

Christmas Sale: Every EA Published Game $.99 or Free
Mini_discussion_bubble Touch Arcade - Posted Tue, 20 Dec 2011 19:51:29 UTC +00:00
We've come to expect EA to never mess around with its sales, and we're pleased to report that it certainly isn't messing around with its latest. From now, and presumably until shortly after New Years Day, all of the publisher's gargantuan premium catalogue is an agreeable $.99. That means games like Madden 12, Trenches II, and many others have been reduced up to 90-percent off the original asking price. Whoa, right? This same sale happened last year around this time, too. You probably know the story, but EA managed to choke the App Store's charts with its titles and pushed everyone out of its way. It was a powerful move that set the yuletide savings tone moving forward. We've got a list, but just as a note, we haven't listed every single EA game, just the ones in this "holiday sale." If you're looking for something else, hit up EA's publisher Read More

Mini_discussion_bubble 148 Apps - Posted Fri, 14 Oct 2011 13:30:16 UTC +00:00
By Rob LeFebvre on October 14th, 2011 We'll hold your hand through the harrowing task of discovering the best app deals to spend your money and time on. Trust us, we know what we're doing. Three sweet gaming deals today from big companies like EA and Gameloft. Don’t pass these up; if you haven’t already played these games, you owe it to yourself and your wallet to grab them while you can. The Sims 3 – Was $6.99, now $0.99The Sims 3 Ambitions – Was $4.99, now $0.99 The quintessential Sims experience on iOS and its similarly well received sequel are both on sale for a measly dollar. Like our review clearly states, it’s time to “get away from life and control someone else’s.” Dead Space – Was $6.99, now $0.99 In space, no one can hear you scream, especially if you’re a mute protagonist of the Gordon Freeman school, bent Read More
'Spy Mouse' Competition To Hand Out Early Access
Mini_discussion_bubble Touch Arcade - Posted Wed, 24 Aug 2011 17:00:00 UTC +00:00
If you don’t mind soiling your hands by participating in a marketing scheme, you could win a chance to play before the rest of the world does. Firemint and EA have kicked off a ‘contest’ for the long-awaited title, offering copies of Spy Mouse, Dead Space [$6.99 / HD], Real Racing 2 [$4.99 / HD], and The Sims 3 [$.99] as door prizes for discovering the answers to clues posted to this page once a day until August 26. If you answer the clue correctly, you’ll be entered into a pool to win any of those games. If you so choose to tweet the fact that you’ve solved the clue on the appropriate page, you’ll apparently “double” your chance of winning. Also, for every 100 Facebook “Likes” the game’s page drums up, another winner will be picked for that day. The competition page is located here, while the clue page is here. Read More
Five Alarm Freebie Alert: The Sims 3 World Adventures
Mini_discussion_bubble Touch Arcade - Posted Mon, 22 Aug 2011 21:00:35 UTC +00:00
Well now here's something you don't see every day, especially from a company like EA, and especially from a series that among other bragging rights includes the best selling PC game of all time…! The Sims 3 World Adventures [Free] is free today, as part of a particularly confusing promotion as historically speaking Sims games have had absolutely no problem selling like crazy on the App Store. World Adventures is sort of the odd man out of the bunch on the App Store, as instead of focusing on typical Sims-like activities of decking out your house and simulating the various mundane tasks which you yourself do every day, it sends you off to several exotic locales to complete various goals. The cool thing with this one is that if you've got a sim in The Sims 3 [99¢] you'll be able to import and export them to go on your world Read More
EA Mega Memorial Day Sale – Dead Space and More On Sale All Weekend
Mini_discussion_bubble Touch Arcade - Posted Fri, 27 May 2011 19:54:26 UTC +00:00
EA wields an incredible amount of power on the App Store. Their game catalog is incredibly vast, and consists of tons of well known IP that even non-gamers are familiar with. When they pulled a similar stunt this holiday season, EA absolutely dominated the top sales list which was great for gamers who scored absolutely insane deals, but bad for other developers who had their Christmas dreams decimated by EA controlling the majority of the App Store top 100. We'll see what happens this time around with this similarly massive sale- This is definitely a great time to fill in your collection if you're missing any of these EA titles. It's hard to really provide any real recommendations here since so many of these games are so good. If you don't have Dead Space yet, I'd really download that. Same with NBA Jam. Also, it's hard to really say which is Read More

Posted 05/14/2011 at 2:45pm | by Susie Ochs EA makes some awesome iOS titles, and they're generally worth every penny of their cost, at least in MY humble opinion. (I mean, have you played Fight Night Champion? It rules!) But who doesn't like to save a few bucks here and there? Especially in the App Store, since every dollar you save is another rad app you can potentially buy. Well, you're in luck, Cheapo McTightwad. EA Mobile has offered us, the MacLife community, the awesome opportunity to choose our favorite EA app, the one we'd most like to see go on sale. And then it'll go on sale! Your humble MacLife editors got to nominate the apps that'll appear in the poll, and you guys get to vote on it. And then EA will put it on sale and a hefty discount -- we're talking 50 percent or more. How it Read More

iOS Game Publishers Offer Valentine’s Day Sales for Select iPhone & iPad Games
Mini_discussion_bubble IntoMobile - Posted Wed, 09 Feb 2011 15:46:31 UTC +00:00
When I think of Valentine’s Day I think of Cupid prancing around, shooting his arrows into people to help them fall in love, couples planning their days out with brunches, picnics, and an elegant dinner at a 5 star restaurant. I also think of the rest of you poor bastards who say that you’re fine with being single and you prefer your independence rather than reporting in with someone on everything you do, but let’s face it, you just haven’t found the right person yet. Instead of staying home and being miserable watching RomComs while eating a bucket of Turkey Hill ice cream, you can stay home and celebrate your independence by playing games all weekend long. If playing some fine iOS games is your idea of a good time, then you’ve come to the right place as a both EA Mobile and Gameloft have dropped the prices of their iOS Read More

After seeing a ton of success with their massive holiday 99¢ sale, the folks at EA Mobile are once again going on a discount binge. We'll keep our eyes on AppShopper.com to see if any new titles are added to this sale, as several new games were added to the sale just as I've been working on this post. The Great Electronic Arts 99¢ Sale of 2010
Mini_discussion_bubble Touch Arcade - Posted Thu, 16 Dec 2010 12:23:29 UTC +00:00
It seems like whenever a holiday rolls around in the US, all of the major developers put their catalog of iOS games on sale in an effort to ride a wave of publicity into the top app charts. Electronic Arts is no stranger to this practice, and in observance of a very special holiday this Winter they have dropped a huge number of their games down to 99¢. Yes, that's right, EA is having a sale to celebrate forum moderator ImNoSuperMan's birthday. Just kidding. It's a Christmas sale. Or rather, a "Holiday" sale. Whatever the politically correct reason for this event is, the bottom line is that you can get a ton of EA games for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad for just a dollar each right now. (Note that some of these titles actually launched at 99¢, or have been that price for a while, but have been added to Read More

EA's Hot For The Holidays Event Previews: 'SimCity Deluxe', 'The Sims 3 Ambitions', 'Risk', 'Yahtzee' for the iPad and 'R-Type'

While was undoubtedly the star of the show at the top secret EA Hot For the Holidays event last week, EA was also showing off a couple of predictable sequels, iOS adaptations of Hasbro classics, and third party titles published by EA. SimCity Deluxe - This sequel of sorts is basically little more than a makeover of the original SimCity [$2.99], it's a little disappointing that EA is releasing this as a separate game instead of applying these fixes to the existing one, but I suppose you could say the same about most EA sequels. SimCity Deluxe is going to have seasons (and disasters to go with each) as well as graphics that look a lot like SimCity 4 for the PC. In the game you will finally be able to modify the terrain with touch controls, which actually was a lot of fun. The new UI is also substantially less Read More

EA Drops Prices on iPhone Games Including Madden, FIFA and SimCity to $1
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Wed, 23 Jun 2010 02:52:46 UTC +00:00
by Game-maker Electronic Arts (EA) is selling a big chunk of its iPhone game library for just $0.99 per game for the next 48 hours — a steep discount for many of its titles which include Madden NFL 2010, FIFA 10 and SimCity. Not all of EA’s games are on sale, though. Sure, SimCity is $0.99, but [iTunes link] is still a steep $6.99, and while FIFA 2010 is just $0.99, the more timely [iTunes link] hangs at $2.99 — though that’s not a bad price, either. EA is one of the world’s biggest game publishers. Its EA Sports line of games is at the top of the heap, and franchises like The Sims, Mass Effect and Medal of Honor have at one time or another led in sales or influence. Increasingly, the company has extended those franchises to mobile devices like the iPhone. The full list of games on sale Read More

And while most mobile iDevice users probably have an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 collecting dust somewhere in the house, it's not guaranteed that all of them have had a chance to play with the Nintendo DS. With the knowledge that Nintendo may never bring their popular Mario and Zelda titles to the App Store, we scoped out 13 Nintendo DS games that have equal or better equivalents in the App Store to squelch some of your handheld envy. Plus, games sold in the App Store are so much more affordable. Read on for a list of wonderful game titles that will Read More

5 iPhone Games You Should Supersize on Your iPad
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Tue, 06 Apr 2010 22:12:32 UTC +00:00
iPhone and iPod touch users who just added Apple’s third device to their inventory of gadgets know that the out-of-pocket expense on the iPad itself could eventually pale in comparison to the total cost spent on applications. For those of us left with much less discretionary income after purchasing our pricey product, we need to maximize our iPad app budget. Thankfully Apple promised that most the applications we already know and love would work on the iPad too. Practice has proven a tad disappointing with some of these apps, but we have found a number of iPhone games that sparkle on the big screen. Here are five that you should definitely try out on the big screen. What other iPhone/iPod touch games have you found to look beautiful on the iPad? Some iPhone games just look amazing and play spectacularly on the iPad even though there may not be an iPad Read More

It looks as if EA is going to try and ride the Sims brand all the way to the bank on the iPhone and iPod touch just as they have on the PC.  The company has revealed a brand new iPhone and iPod touch Sims game titled The Sims 3 World Adventures that will be sort of a sequel to the original The Sims 3 game that was released about six months ago. The Sims 3 World Adventures will allow you to take your Sim abroad to three exotic destination, including “Al Simhara” in Egypt, “Champs Les Sims” in France, and “Shang SimLa” in China.  The game will feature 52 new goals and four new mini-games, all with an international twist. If you already own The Sims 3, don’t fret, you will be able to transfer your character back and forth between both versions of the game, so your favorite Sim Read More

To say that The Sims series of games have been successful would be a massive understatement. The original PC version was the best selling PC game of all time, and the ridiculous amount of expansions and sequels all were remarkably successful as well. The iPhone game, The Sims 3 [App Store] rocketed up to the #1 top selling paid app on the App Store almost instantly following its release, and stayed there for quite some time. EA hopes to duplicate that success with the upcoming pseudo-sequel The Sims 3 World Adventures. In the game, you'll be able to travel to three locations: "Al Simhara" in Egypt, "Champs Les Sims" in France, and "Shang SimLa" in China. Along with new personas, careers, and quests you will also have 52 new goals to achieve as well as 4 new mini-games to play with your sim. Of course World Adventures also comes loaded with Read More

It is not unusual for EA to reduce the price of an app. It seems that after an app has been released for a while, they are nice enough to drop the price. Good for those of you who are patient! The price of these three games have been reduced by $2.00 or more (see below). Previously $9.99 now $6.99. Previously $6.99 now $4.99. Previously $4.99 now $2.99. 'Need For Speed Undercover', 'Wolfenstein RPG', and 'Sims 3' On Sale

A little late to the all out price slashing fiesta we saw last week, EA has since dropped the prices on a few of their games this afternoon. Need For Speed Undercover, $6.99 -> $4.99 - A mission-based racing game that had an insanely long development cycle that produced a game that was well worth waiting for. While Need For Speed Undercover runs great on previous-generation devices, it's on the short list of games you really should have if you want to stretch the graphical legs of your iPhone 3GS. At the higher framerate, the sensation of speed is even better. We enjoyed the game in our review, and along with Real Racing [App Store], Need For Speed is still one of the best full 3D racing games on the App Store. Wolfenstein RPG, $4.99 -> $2.99 - Originally produced by Id Software, ported to the iPhone by Firemint, and published Read More

EA Mobile’s Gone Bonkers! Need For Speed, The Sims 3, and Wolfenstein RPG SALE!

August 18th, 2009 James Isabel Every now and then developers go insane with their price cuts. Lately, it’s been an amass of great games getting dropped to unbelivably low prices. It’s now EA Mobile‘s turn to go insane with these pricecuts. The long awaited racing game by Electronic Arts is finally released onto the App Store, and it was well worth the wait! The Need for Speed series is one of the most successful racing franchises ever since its first ever game in 1994… while this version is an iPhone first. The Sims 3 has been well awaited on the App Store with amazing hype. The game  has had the best release ever on the App Store, skyrocketing to the No.1 top paid app in less than 24 hours priced at the premium price of $9.99. Is the game worth the price? Max E Verde 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
I've only been playing The Sims 3 on my iPod touch for about an hour but I am loving it. It's realistic and works almost like PC versions of the past (I plan on picking up The Sims 3 for my Mac when I get home). No building it seems, but that would be too complicated for mobile game anyways.
I love this game!!
sjbrown 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
I stayed up just to download this game and it was SO worth it!! I'll give it five stars when it stops cutting off on me though....In ten minutes of playing, it has happened about three times. A little frustrating. But the game makes up for it in other ways.
Fun but....

This game seems fun but it keeps crashing on me so for that I'll give it a 3 outta 5..

So far pretty good but very buggy. Game keeps crashing even after multiple reatarta.
A Truly Amazing Game
amped365 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
Despite the rare crash every once in a while, this is by far the one of the best and deepest mobile game I have ever seen. However, it's not without it's flaws. For some reason the music for the game ceases to play after an initial action. Sorry I cannot be more descriptive as I have not found the cause. Beyond that, I've had no issues. Nothing but great game play. If there is one thing that I hope EA will do with this title, it is that once 3.0 becomes mainstream, I hope they will take advantage of the multiple player through bluetooth. The replayability will be endless! Great Job EA.
No Sims 3 for PC & this CRASHES
Jadore504 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
This crashes a lot. Guess it's not meant for me to have the Sims 3 fir PC or iPhone. :-(
Absolutly Amazing!!!
Steviee 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
I have been waiting for this game for my iPhone for months and let me tell you that it was NOT a dissapointment. It is fantastic I've been a SIMS fan sincethe first one came out. Totally worth the money and you are gonna love it if you are a true sim fan !!! :]
Brilliant
TonyTeulan 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
Despite the fact I will purchase the game on PC, this game is my best all-time purchase from the App Store -- and there have indeed been many. Offering a great portion of its big brother's gameplay in the palm of your hand, Sims 3 for iPhone combines great graphics, deep gameplay & ease of control for the best handheld port of a Sims title yet. Being extremely open-ended, this is something that will take a long time to explore fully. While it would be good if a future patch would allow for greater customisation of your Sim's physical appearance, EA haven't put a foot wrong in giving us a quality release. This game has my highest recommendations.
Fun but...
RingleaderMAN 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
It is a watered down version of the sims 3. You have your basics like creating a sim, getting a job, and fufilling your sim's needs but it's missing a lot of things I love about the pc version like being able to create a family and build your own house. Implement these features and it will be a 5 star app.
pretty good
foulds10 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
..for a sims game. it isn't as complex as I thought it would be-not as many options for socializing/appearance/jobs etc. but a nice base game for the sims. it's like sims 2 or bustin out-there is a town, and a few shops but almost all the extras the commercial for sims 3 had in it were for mac only. still though, pretty good buy. it should keep me entertained for a while. very impressive for a phone game.
Keeps turning off
Christina2469 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
I love the Sims games for the computer and games consoles but I am still up in the air with this one. The game itself is great but I have only had it a day and already it has shut off like 20 times.....whenever I go to someones house or more then one sim is interacting with mine it just turns off and goes to my regular ipod screen....starting to frustrate me when i can only play like 10 minutes at a time!!!!
Bah!
chulini 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
Needs work. It doesn't have a lag so that's a good thing. It feels too restricted. I'll give it a chance and wait for an update.
A deep social experiment in your hands
AlbieOne 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
If you can build solid social relationships in real life, then surely you can do the same in a video game right? That’s the premise behind The Sims 3 where the focus is less on building a home (unlike its predecessors), and more about creating relationships with others. Think virtual dollhouse except in a more adult way, and before you jump into The Sims 3, be clear on your expectations for the game.
Great game!...if I could play it
Ryanmac2764 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
I will give it five stars because it's sims 3! But it crashes as soon as I enter the game... PLEASE FIX ASAP
Just wait a few days for 3.0
Shant123 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
After the 3.0 update comes in a few days, the crashing will stop, since this game is made to run on the 3.0 software.
Sims
Shp00p 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
4 crashes in 20 min. Seems like a lame mini game that will get old soon if it actually ran.
Very Cool
Gooswitch 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
I was very surprised to see how much they squeezed into this game on the ipod touch/ Iphone version. Though it doesn't have EVERYTHING the PC version has, it is still very much the sims in the same respect. You can't build your house in this one, but you can add on to it. It's well worth the 10 dollars, and is a great portable game. Probably the best from EA so far!
A welcomed app!
pepinalex 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
I was anxiously awaiting this app for my iPhone, so I was very happy when I finally was able to purchase it. I would have given it 5 stars because it really is a great SIMS game and easily addicting, however, it had crashed 3 times since I downloaded it and opened it earlier today. Hopefully these are minor fixables that will be amended by an update soon. This is definitely worth the $10 and If you're a SIMS fan it's a must have!
Best Game On iPhone!
spartanrevenge1 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
Go buy this game. Then come back and read the review. Ok? Bought it, good! Now... this game has very good graphics, I would say last gen console level. Furthermore the frame rate remains steady even while zooming and rotating the camera. The controls are very easy and are always responsive. The game retains the core features of the PC version very well. Some advanced elements were dropped, such as free-building of a home, however expansions and modifications can be made to a home! The in-app purchasing is not available, probably because iPhone 3.0 isn't out. Overall I give this game a 9.5 out of 10. Further updates may cause me to raise my score. I highly recommend this game to all people, I believe it is UNDERPRICED, and is a great bargain! I hope this review has helped you :D
iTouch wait for fixes
Grevlok 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
This version is reported to have only been tested on iPhone 3.0. If you have an iTouch like me (2nd gen 16gig) you will probably get crashes that make this game totally unplayable. I crashed 7 times just making my first character before I finally could and after that it just crashes when I login to play. The current version is 1.0.85 so if your trying to download this game on anything but an iPhone 3.0 you should probably wait for the next version and read to see if it's still crashing before buying and getting frustrated with all the crashes.
Memory can't handle it.
netdude999 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
Played for about 15 min and it crashed during the first interactions with another sim. Was starting to get choppy right before that when I was fishing.
Very buggy
Sbdjlcc81 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
I just bought it and have been trying to play for 10 minutes but it keeps crshing. I love the computer game but would recommend waiting for EA to fix the bugs before buying this version. Right now it's just a waste of money and space.
Watered down Sims, crashes a lot
eaudeamber 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.85
I'm really excited about Sims 3 for PC so I thought I'd give this app a try too. Not worth $9.99. The game is a watered down version of Sims 1 with hardly any customization (five hairstyles... Really?) Everything requires a loading screen but worst part is -- the game crashes during 75% of those loading screens. I'd demand a refund on this one. EA should not affiliate this app with their PC brand Sims 3. That would be a mistake.
