Price Drop: The Weekend's Best iOS App Deals, March 23

Posted 03/23/2012 at 3:25pm | by J Keirn-Swanson Here they are, get 'em while they're fresh. Price drops on the apps you want, price drops  galore all across the spectrum, and if you don't move fast, you just might miss out. This iPad only was $4.99 and featured in Apple's "Great Role Playing Games" category and now it's yours if you have the $0.99 to spare. A daily deal from developer EA, the classic board game makes it to iOS and instead of the Pacific Avenue price of $4.99, they're swinging you a Baltic Avenue $0.99.  Microsoft might be laggard in porting their Office Suite to the iPad, but others haven't been as lazy. Usually ten big bucks, Smart Office falls to a mere $0.99.  And if you're a regular MS Project junkie, then manage those rascals with this usually $30 app as it is temporarily plummeting to a fiver. How Developers Are Optimizing Apps For the iPad's Retina Display
Mini_discussion_bubble ReadWriteWeb - Posted Sat, 17 Mar 2012 00:45:41 UTC +00:00
Well, today is the big day. Diehard Apple fans around the world are either enduring endless lines or eagerly awaiting the UPS truck from the comfort of their own home. They're all doing the same thing: Pulling open that pristine, white packaging to reveal the latest coveted gadget from Apple's overseas factories: the new iPad. Apple isn't the only one that's been busily prepping for today. App developers everywhere have been recoding and resubmitting their work to the iTunes App Store to take advantage of the new device's specs. More than anything else, it's the iPad's super-high resolution retina display that's giving developers the most compelling reason to push out an update. With its resolution of 2048 x 1536, the iPad's retina display can make even the most well-designed apps look dramatically better. The screen, as Tim Cook proudly pointed out, has 1 million more pixels than an HDTV set. Naturally, Read More
Apple showcases apps ready for the retina iPad

Apple wants you to enjoy that brand new retina iPad and has compiled a list of apps that are ready for the high-resolution display. It includes many of the big-name apps that were quick to get their app updated after Apple’s iPad announcement last week. The list includes entertainment apps, productivity apps, games, and more. Kelly spent the last three years covering mobile technology at places like BGR, Gizmodo and The Unofficial Apple Weblog. Before writing, she spent a few years working with and teaching others how to use Adobe Flash and Macromedia Director. Even earlier than that, she spent six years working on her Ph.D in Microbiology. When she's not writing, she can be found fishing the lakes and hiking the mountains of Western Maine with her husband and children. Read More

The Retina display on the new iPad, available Friday, is absolutely stunning. However, the increase in resolution actually makes some older apps appear all pixelated and gross. You don’t want to show off your brand new iPad and leave your friends with the impression that the screen on your new tablet is any less clear than a shimmering pool of unicorn tears. Here are several iPad apps that have been updated with Retina-ready graphics so everyone within eyesight can witness the pixel-pushing power of your new Apple tablet. Besides the titles that were featured in the iPad introduction event, Apple has setup a new section on the iTunes App Store to highlight Retina-ready titles. I’ve handpicked a few titles from this list and from other updates I’m aware of for you to try out. Keep in mind, this list is not comprehensive and there should be new Retina-optimized apps coming to the Read More

iPen, el primer stylus activo para iPad
Mini_discussion_bubble EsferaiPhone - Posted Wed, 23 Nov 2011 16:26:36 UTC +00:00

Homescreens – Oktober 2011 (iPhone + iPad)

Außerdem verstecken sich in Read More
iPad-Kunst: SketchBook Pro in Version 2.0
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhoneBlog.de - Posted Mon, 09 May 2011 14:56:39 UTC +00:00

10 Must-Have Apps in the Mac App Store [SCREENSHOTS]
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Fri, 07 Jan 2011 04:36:44 UTC +00:00
by The new Mac App Store has arrived, and with it approximately 1,000 apps available to Mac desktop and laptop owners. We’ve spent the day downloading and experimenting with various apps, some of which behave just like full-fledged, existing desktop software (such as StuffIt Expander and iPhoto), and others that function more like widgets and/or iPad apps (such as Twitter). Those who are familiar with the iTunes and App Stores will have no trouble navigating the Mac App Store. Users can peruse featured and top-selling (and grossing apps) as well as browse by category and search. Many of the apps already available in the App Store have made their way into the Mac App Store. Purchases can be made using your existing iTunes account; apps are installed within minutes and automatically appear on your dock. We were delighted to find that Apple made many of its best software products, such as Read More

Außerdem verstecken sich innerhalb der Ordner folgende Apps*: Amazon.de (kostenlos; App Store-Link), Convertbot (1.59 €; App Store-Link), AnalyticsPro (5.49 €; App Store-Link), Delivery Status touch (3.99 €; universal; App Store-Link), Dropbox (kostenlos; universal; App Store-Link), iCabMobile (1.59 €; universal; App Store-Link), Skype (kostenlos; App Store-Link), WeatherPro (2.99 €; App Store-Link), Pastebot (2.99 €; App Store-Link), LogMeIn (23.99 €; universal; App Store-Link), OffMaps (1.59 €; universal; App Store-Link), Kik (kostenlos; App Store-Link), PayPal (kostenlos; App Store-Link), Linkie (0.79 Read More
Sketchbook Pro for iPad On Sale for 99 Cents

posted by D. St. Charles on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 9:40 am.   I’m not an artist, but sometimes I do get inspired to try my hand at sketching out a doodle, and of course, the iPad lends itself to this task perfectly. I have been disappointed with some of the less expensive or free apps out there, as most are geared towards kids and offer few goodies like different brushes, color choice beyond the primary colors found in a Crayon box, or layers. Most quality art apps have these features, but for a layman like myself, I’ve been reluctant to pay for a feature-laden app for the occasional stick figure, or admittedly lame landscape I can produce. Sketchbook Pro has come to the rescue.  This incredible art app, complete with layers, 75 brushes, stamps, synthetic brush sensitivity, transparency, template library, color selction by HSB or RGB, eye-dropper color selection, Read More
Read More

Favorite Four: Apps To Get Your Doodles On
Mini_discussion_bubble 148 Apps - Posted Wed, 20 Oct 2010 18:30:09 UTC +00:00
By Chris Nitz on October 20th, 2010 Forget notes, time to doodle! You are sitting in the boardroom and you forgot to bring your “notebook” so you can take “notes” during the meeting. We all know you are just going to draw houses, spirals and other miscellaneous items instead of jotting down those all important budget numbers. Why not take those doodles to the next level with some chalk or fire? Four great ways to get your doodles on is easily attainable in one of these four apps: Sketchbook Pro:For the more serious doodlers, or dare I say artists, Sketchbook Pro is a great way to do some serious doodles. Multi-touch, 75 brushes, six layers, blend modes barely explain the power of this app. I mean when Penny-Arcade is able to put out a comic completely drawn with this app, what more endorsement could you possible ask? I was about to embark on a three-and-a-half-hour trek home to Connecticut from Maine after a beach weekend. I had two youngsters in the back seat and, my wife and I would quickly discover, no food. But I had gadgets, and I had apps. And I was about to find out if they could mollify an 8-year-old boy, Luca, and an 11-year-old girl, Juliana, more effectively than snacks. A little preview: if you have a BlackBerry, pack lots of snacks. An Android requires fewer, and an iPhone (or, better yet, an iPad) may completely replace road food, if you choose your apps well. My general philosophy is that staring silently out the window is one of the more rewarding uses of brain power. But when that gets old, the children’s bickering gets loud and you notice that two nearby drivers are engaged in highway texting (for real), philosophy does not help. Read More

5 iPad Apps That Changed My Mind
Mini_discussion_bubble GigaOm - Posted Mon, 14 Jun 2010 21:00:13 UTC +00:00
I was not optimistic about the future of the iPad prior to its release. It seemed a unicorn among horses in the tech world, something precious and therefore expensive, but without any real tangible benefit over its brethren in terms of functionality, at least for the average person. Clearly, I was wrong. But what convinced me that I truly was wrong about the iPad and its prospects for the future weren’t the reports coming in about its tremendous retail success. That could still be accounted for by initial fervor for a new product by Apple, which, few will argue, has become the “it” company of late. No, it was a few select apps that convinced me that the iPad was here to stay, and that that was a good thing. Below are those apps, along with why I think they’re serious game-changers. Hobby artist creates paintings on the iPad
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 13 May 2010 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
Obama Pacman's got a few cool paintings by an artist named John Haasl. The unique thing about these paintings is that Haasl created them exclusively with the iPad. While a lot of the talk around the iPad has centered on the device as a content consumer, content creation is definitely easier in one big area with a much larger touchscreen, and of course, that's art. Not only does the extra screen space help out would-be artists, but the processing power makes things quick and easy, too. Haasl is using ArtStudio for iPad for his work, and there's other good software available as well (SketchBook Pro is another popular app, though it's a little more expensive, with ArtStudio on sale for just a buck). Haasl says that he takes about two days to put a painting together, and it's totally a hobby -- his day job is in IT. It's very cool, Read More
Phone Smart - Apps Can Turn iPad Into a Useful Companion - NYTimes.com

Let’s set aside the question of whether you should get an iPad and suppose you already bought one last weekend. You probably floated home and loaded it with a few whiz-bang apps and maybe even passed it around to your friends. At some point in all the euphoria, you may also have wondered whether this device is just a trophy or something you can actually use. Such self-doubts can be easily cast aside, providing you delve a little more deeply into the App Store than the Top 100 list — and are ready to open the wallet again. If you budget around $100 for a few new and upgraded apps, you can easily make the iPad into much more of a constant companion than something you just trot out when the neighbors are watching. Start with productivity apps, because a mobile device is most valuable when it lets you work anytime, Read More
PopCap, BigOven.com among those with top selling iPad apps
Mini_discussion_bubble TechFlash - Posted Wed, 07 Apr 2010 20:25:09 UTC +00:00
Apple's iPad hasn't even been out a week, so I'll grant you that it is a little early to be doing a deep analysis on who the winners and losers are in the app store. But I was interested to learn that two of the top 25 selling applications for the new touchscreen device -- at least as of this afternoon -- were developed by Seattle startups. PopCap Games currently ranks 14th in the paid apps category for its $9.99 game "Plants vs. Zombies HD." And not too far behind is BigOven, which ranks 24th with its app "170,000 Recipes and Grocery List." "It's pretty early to be touting stats/factoids," said PopCap's Garth Chouteau. "But you could certainly say that between the iPad launch and continuing success of the iPhone adaptation, (Plants vs. Zombies) is our hottest App Store/iTunes product of 2010 -- so far. Not bad considering Bejeweled 2/iPhone continues Read More
Mini_discussion_bubble EsferaiPhone - Posted Mon, 05 Apr 2010 16:15:33 UTC +00:00
Read More
Cartoon: iPad: Content Reader Or Creative Platform?
Mini_discussion_bubble ReadWriteWeb - Posted Sun, 04 Apr 2010 16:00:00 UTC +00:00
You're looking at what might be the first published cartoon created on an iPad. (Certainly the first one published on ReadWriteWeb.) From the moment rumours about an Apple tablet got serious, I was eager to learn whether it could be a vehicle for actual cartooning. Much of the buzz wasn't promising, suggesting the device would be geared more to consumers than content creators. Yet even a device as small as the iPhone has shown remarkable potential with the advent of software like Brushes, which produced artwork good enough - admittedly, thanks to a very talented artist - to become a New Yorker cover. So when Steve Jobs made his Jan. 27 announcement, I was hoping against hope to hear that the device might be a worthy competitor to my beloved (but heavy and unwieldy) Cintiq. In retrospect, that was wildly unrealistic, but I was still disappointed not to hear words like Read More

Need to fix Importing feature
Lecter213 3.0 stars Version: 2.2
Everything works great but the importing feature. I have a lot of drawings from my PC and from this app that I cannot import anymore because the feature does not work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app but it still does not work fix this and the app is great.
Please add palm rejection
Madheavy 4.0 stars Version: 2.2
Great App! The best, but please add palm rejection. The Wacom bamboo app has it and it works great!
Make an upgraded sketchbook
Jonel Rodriguez 4.0 stars Version: 2.2
Something more similar to the desktop version I don't care if you port it over and I have to 60 dollars and where's ipen support please and thank you other than that great app could be the best but sadly customer support is not up to par
Great app but 2 request
.AM. 4.0 stars Version: 2.2
Sketchbook pro... A Fantastic App! First omission and a big request... Please add a record option to capture the process of sketch to final artwork in the app. Export video to the iPad photo library would make this the perfect artist app.Final request... The ability to name each file plus drag each to display the order of files in the existing thumbnail view. Those 2 requests in the next app update... and it's 5 stars.
Impossible to get support
Seattle John 2.0 stars Version: 2.2
Very good drawing interface, but when I uploaded to the cloud my entire gallery disappeared and it's impossible to get any customer support to resolve the issue. I advise you photograph your images off the screen or you may never see them again!
It don't get much better than this ...
Robert Patton 5.0 stars Version: 2.2
Hands down the best drawing app available and totally compliments the Mac version …I have played inside Adobe Illustrator, Paint Shop Pro, Corel, and more than I can remember right now.I always end up back inside this one … Guess that pretty much says it all …Worth twice what they charge … Really …Robert9001
Fantastic drawing, but plagued exporting!
soundtrack-man 3.0 stars Version: 2.2
This is a fantastic app for drawing, and I find it especially useful for sketching quick storyboards for videos. The problem is with the exporting function. When I try to email an image to myself so I could put it in a slides how or a video, it freezes the program and requires me to restart my computer, as if the export infected the image with a virus!
New version doesn't work
Audio-visual procrastinator 1.0 stars Version: 2.2
I updated to the new version just a few days ago and now the app will not open at all. This means all my drawings go with it--lost!! What a shame it is to lose of my hard work. The original app is fabulous beyond words, but this update crashes upon opening.
Crashing, crashing and more crashing.
James Hunt II 2.0 stars Version: 2.2
Sketchbook pro is amazing. I absolutely love using this app, whenever it's not crashing. It will crash for almost any reason, fast, repetitive commands (making dots), or more often then not, no reason at all. It often crashes as soon as I open it. Sometimes five or six times before I can get it to work. It also needs some sort of ruler and some way to define the horizontal and vertical middles of the paper.

Robert Kohr 1.0 stars Version: 2.2
I would have given this app a 5 except the latest update decided to purge my iCloud of all my images!! I had a lot so this is a huge disappointment. Oh and I thought they would still be on my phone, nope they're all gone. Defiantly not a pro app if this is what happens to your illustrations!
Price makes a difference
ChessMess! 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I wanted either this or Brushes and since I've used neither before and because its more for fun then professional work I picked this one because of its lower price.
Nice
Jsolomon 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a really cool app. I love to draw and this app has really got me fired up again. If you like to doodle ,or are a serious artist, get this app. You guys giving this a low rating because you had it for a previous device need to rate the product for itself and on it's own merits. Bashing it just because you had to repurchase it isn't fair to the first time buyer looking to make an informed decision.
Awesome
Nedthan 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was considering a wacom intuos4 just to get sketchbook pro free with it, but this app is legit and the real deal!!! I couldn't recommend it enough :)
Awesome
BennyBrady 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Don't listen to the double dipping complaints. Getting both the iPad and iPhone versions barely costs 15 bucks. That's mental! The desktop app is over 100!!! Anyone who wants to sketch on an idevice and doesn't mind drawing with their finger will be ecstatic. What a program.
AWSOME
starrshaw 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Painting, Sketching, this app dose it all at pro level! A must buy for the mobile artist!
Amazing
Corbett3000 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is simply amazing. Thank you whoever developed this.
Greedy---- have to double dip on apps for the ipad. Bad dev..
Pherball66 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I hate having to buy this app twice. It would be different is the program was enhanced in any way but as far as I can see it is just bigger. :(
Even better with the iPad
Pauleee316 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
With a Pogo stylus (I just can't draw with my fingers) now I can do better sketches on the go while riding the Metro or at a coffee shop or during breaks in the office with a bigger iPad screen. The iPhone screen was just too damn small for me to work on.
super rad!!
bampop! 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
If you want THE portable sketchbook grab this app and a pogo sketch stylus and you are in business. I wanted a portable cintiq for sketching, but without all the clutter of the wires and the big power brick. This is PERFECT for my needs. I find I use my fingers and the pogo pen to make my art. It's a killer combo. And the price? Incredible! I would expect to pay $80 for the desktop version. I have the iPhone app and don't regret having to pay for this again at all. Autodesk packed so many new features and brushes into this version. Thank you so much!
Impressive
bostonte 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
The pictured screenshots are a little vague and made me unsure. I'm very pleased. The user interface has some learning, but becomes easy and convenient. The brush and tool options are varied and responsive. The results are much better than I could have hoped. Especially for the price. I'm just using my finger. I suspect I'll be even happier when my Pogo stylus arrives.
Fantastic app - great price.
Ming_The_Merciless 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
If you are seriously complaining about buying this app on iPad and iPhone, you need to get a grip. This is fantastic, and worth the money.
Great App, Amazing Price
bearthw 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Very solid drawing application; anyone who complains about $8 for this app is crazy. The desktop version is $100, shouldn't we get that that for free if we bought the $3 iPhone version?
AH-MAY-ZING
Pantelone$ 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This program is seriously insane. Anyone complaining about the price needs to pull their head from their nether regions and look at what they are getting for EIGHT. FREAKING. DOLLARS. Are you kidding me? A program with this full of feature set that works this well for $8? The swipe to undo and ability to export PSDs alone is worth the $. 10 years ago you'd have paid like $200+ for an app like this. If you are an artist of any sort, I'd have no problem declaring this app invaluable. It rocks. It was worth the price of the iPad alone. Can't wait to see what else the come up with.
Worth it
Suzi54241 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Yup I happily paid for this upgrade it does so much more that the touch version I have and also love. More streamlined. Many more brushes, reworked gestures. Revamped color wheel and brush editor. If you are an artist you will love it. Even if you're not an artist it might help you become one! And no hidden update or upgrade fees once you buy it. PLUS it has a great walkthrough first time you turn it on. AND LAST but not least.... LIKE apples new apps, keynote, pages and numbers you can access your layered files in the file sharing section of itunes rather than bother with email or flattening and saving to your photos. MUCH, much better workflow. GREAT JOB Autodesk. I love it.
Cool app
darboston 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Better and cheaper than brushes
Killer App
FiendFodder 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
SketchBook on the iPad is absolutely spectacular. I first got attracted to iPhone painting when I saw brushes in the iPad keynote. I got Bruses for the iPhone, but quickly switched to SketchBook Mobile because their interface was much better to actually do work in, and their pencil tool was indespensible (iPhone Brushes has nothing equivalent). I am not the least bit disappointed to pay the full $8 even though I already own the iPhone version. I understand that Apple's current store model doesn't allow vendors to manage such a credit, and this app is still an insanely great value at $8 (as was the Mobile version at the $3 I paid for it). Yes, you'll find new features in this version (shape tools, and many more brushes), but the most important advances are in usability. Pro adds a set of tripple-finger tap/swipe gestures for Undo/Redo, Layer Editor acccess, Brush Editor access, and Draw Style (i.e. pen size/opatcity) access. If you're serious about creating artwork it doesn't take you long to realize that the speed at which you can access the proper tool is crticially important. SketchBook Pro is a dream in that regard. Thanks a million to Autodesk for having this ready on launch day. My iPad was worth it for this app alone.
Not cool to pay twice for this app
quantumorbit 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I already own the iphone version ($2.99) and I had to pay again more than twice for the iPad version ($7.99).. wtf?. I'm glad other developers are being fair to their customers and are simply upgrading the apps for the iPad at no additional cost. I just got Parachut Panic (ParaPanicHD) iPad's version as a free upgrade. At least they should add an in app purchase of the iPad version so you get a discounted price if you've already paid for the app. Hope this is an isolated case and not a trend. The thing I love the most of my iPhone is the $.99 price line that makes it a no brainer to buy apps.
