Spotify releases SpotON Radio app for iPhone
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Mon, 09 Jan 2012 20:00:00 UTC +00:00
Spotify is the über-popular music service that lets you stream a huge library of music to your computer. You can also use the service on your iPhone with a premium subscription, letting you either sync and listen to your own music, or stream Spotify's tracks straight to your mobile device wherever you happen to be. The service just recently opened up an API for app developers, and a new app called SpotON Radio is one of the first to take full advantage of it. Unfortunately, it requires a premium Spotify subscription to work, but if you have one of those already, SpotON will let you listen to Internet radio stations, your own Spotify playlists, or any other music Spotify offers. The app uses "music intelligence" from Echo Nest for recommendations, and as you can see above, the display is clean and clear, which is always nice. If you already use the Read More
TUAW Best of 2011 wrap-up and editor picks
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Sat, 07 Jan 2012 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
It's January 6th, 2012, and today marks the end of the TUAW Best of 2011 awards. This was a massive undertaking, with 25 separate categories all requiring their own nominations and voting from our readers. We've learned some lessons for next year's event -- start earlier, watch for astroturfing in the nominations, drop some unpopular categories -- and the Best of 2012 will be even better. The editorial staff here at TUAW agreed with many of the reader picks, but we had our own opinions on some others. We want to thank all of the thousands of TUAW readers who took time to consider their favorite accessories and apps, nominate them for an award, and then vote in the competition. Without further ado, here's the full list of winners as well as our picks for the TUAW Best of 2011: Editor picks: 13" and 11" MacBook Air, 13" MacBook Pro Peripheral Read More
Nominate your favorite iPhone music app for TUAW's Best of 2011
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Wed, 21 Dec 2011 20:00:00 UTC +00:00
During December and January, The Unofficial Apple Weblog is soliciting your nominations and votes for the best products for Mac, iPhone/iPod touch, and iPad. We'll start with nominations in a category, and then tally your votes for the top-nominated products a few days later. The winner in each category receives the highly-coveted title of TUAW Best of 2011. Today's category for nominations in the TUAW Best of 2011 awards is iPhone music apps. This is a huge area in the App Store, with apps that not only play music, but let you create music as well. This is also the last category for iPhone nominations. Apple's GarageBand (US$4.99) made it to the iPhone this year, turning your favorite phone (or iPod touch) into a music-making maniac. Smule's Magic Guitar (free) and Magic Piano (free) can make you a pocket musician in no time. Listening to music on Pandora (free) or Spotify Read More

Daily iPhone App: MusicPound
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Tue, 23 Aug 2011 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
We've been covering a lot (a lot!) of iPhone games in this space, but of course there are many other types of apps on the App Store. MusicPound isn't a game -- rather, it's a music discovery app that's designed to compare your music library (on your iPhone, so you'll have to load music on there if you don't sync it usually) with someone else's. The app will give you a "Music Compatibility Rating," as well as chart your most played and favorite songs, and give you some insight on what kinds of music you both listen to. Obviously, the feedback here is mostly just for fun -- you're hopefully not going to keep or ditch a friend based on what this app tells you. But the app can give you some good recommendations based on what kind of music your friends like, and where your libraries intersect and diverge. And Read More

Dragon Go! is a must-have voice search app for your iPhone
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 14 Jul 2011 06:40:00 UTC +00:00
Like the proverbial genie in the bottle, you can ask a lot of Dragon Go! and have a pretty good chance of the app granting your wish. Dragon Go! is the latest free app from Nuance, creators of Dragon Dictate for the Mac and Dragon Dictation for iOS devices. In this latest app, Nuance has delivered what they consider the next generation of voice search, and after several days of testing I have no reason to doubt it. Here's the deal. Speak just about anything to Dragon Go! and it will try to parse your meaning and bring up the right set of tools to complete your search. Ask for news about Libya, or news about Libya from the New York Times and the app complies. Ask for reservations for 2 at a favorite restaurant and Open Table is queried. Directions from your current location to the nearest hospital will launch Read More
Pandora Media offering IPO tomorrow
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Tue, 14 Jun 2011 23:00:00 UTC +00:00
Music service Pandora is set to introduce its stock to the public tomorrow, becoming one more in a series of social networking and online service companies going with an IPO. Pandora isn't specifically an iOS company, of course, given that its music service runs both through browsers and on a number of platforms. But the company's iOS app has helped its profile. It's consistently stayed one of the top free apps on the App Store. The company's offering 14.7 million shares initially. Pandora's future wasn't ever in actual jeopardy, but certainly the value of the company's app was in question during the lead-up to last week's Apple keynote at WWDC. For a while, iCloud was rumored as being an iTunes streaming service like Pandora, allowing you to listen to your music collection through any iOS device. Those rumors turned out to be untrue so far. iCloud and iTunes Match are only Read More
Has Apple Adjusted the App Store Charting Algorithms?
Mini_discussion_bubble Touch Arcade - Posted Mon, 18 Apr 2011 18:10:00 UTC +00:00
Careful watchers of the top charts on the App Store have noticed an interesting trend over the weekend with various apps inexplicably substantially changing position. Previously (and possibly still currently) Apple seemed to use the number of downloads an app had to form both the top free and paid lists. While this method might have made sense originally, gaming these download-only lists has turned into a remarkably profitable enterprise for those that have apps with a large install base which also have a way to push users into downloading other apps. If you've played a freemium game lately that offered some kind of benefit for downloading a completely different game, chances are the developer behind the title you're being incentivized into downloading paid the original developer a bucket full of money for that promotion. For both developers it's a win/win situation, one (often) gets a fat stack of cash while the Read More
App developers could face US privacy investigation
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Wed, 06 Apr 2011 23:30:00 UTC +00:00
Hey app, did you just send my personal data or my phone's unique electronic identification number over the internet without my permission? Federal prosecutors in New Jersey are trying to answer this question in an ongoing investigation, the Wall Street Journal reports. The federal probe aims to discover if any apps built for iOS, Android or other smartphones are illegally collecting or transmitting personally identifying information, such as the phone's unique device identifier (UDID), to app makers or third parties without consent from end users. Gathering information that can be used to personally identify an individual without adequately disclosing what data will be collected and how it will be used could violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act designed to prosecute hackers. The investigation, which could continue for months, appears to be in a preliminary phase. In a document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, the online music Read More

Macworld 2011: Kanex brings full HDMI capability to Macs
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Sat, 29 Jan 2011 02:00:00 UTC +00:00
This morning I spoke with Jessica Cole from Kanex, a two-year-old company which offers many products that add HDMI capability to your Mac. The current generation of their line adds audio pass-through via HDMI. The offerings range between the iAdapt HDMI V2 (US$29.95), a small box that plugs into Mini DisplayPort and allows you to plug in an HDMI cable, giving you audio support and 1080p video to a TV, projector or anything else with an HDMI input. I was shown the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI 10-foot cable ($44.95), which is sold exclusively at Apple stores and contains a 10-foot HDMI cable so that you don't have to buy and plug in your own. "We're very excited to have our product as an Apple Store exclusive," said Jessica (whose favorite three apps are Facebook, Pandora and Facegoo). The most interesting product that I found was the Kanex XD ($149.99), a magical Read More

Yesterday, we went over the top 10 free iPhone Apps available on the App Store (the paid apps, too). It was a list of the most downloaded free applications of all time. While it may not always reflect the quality of each App, it does indicate their popularity. That said, there are also plenty of iPad Apps that are getting attention. Here's a List of the most popular:    Pandora on the iPad is great for listening to music while you browse, or catch up on your RSS feeds. You simply search for the artist or music you want to listen to and hit play. There's a lot to listen to on Pandora radio, and it's a free App worth taking a look at. I’m Alex Jordan, and Here Are My Top Five iOS Apps

Hello everyone. I’m Alex Jordan, one of the new authors here at iSource. I thought I’d break the ice by telling you the top five iOS apps I can’t live without. So, let’s jump right in. Instagram is a unique social network, that as far as I can tell, stems solely from an iOS app. There is no website to go to, no other clients to access the service except for the official Instagram app. What is Instagram? Well, you take pictures, apply filters (or not), and post them, and view other’s photos. Like any other social network, you can comment on other’s posts, or “like” them. Think of it as “Facebook, but only for pictures.” On the surface it seems a little pointless, I’ll admit. However, you really should give it a try. It’s free, and easy to sign up. Surprise, surprise, Pandora Radio made the list. Yeah, Pandora has Read More

As it turns out, you don’t have to wonder any longer -- Apple has created a section dedicated to what they consider the best 50 apps. Opinions may vary from user to user as to what constitutes the best iOS apps, but Apple has some ideas of their own and they’ve created a new page of the best 50 in their opinion which they call the App Store Essentials Hall of Fame. It’s a great place for first-time users to immerse themselves in their new iOS device purchase with what many of us would consider the best apps ever made. “More than two years since launch, we’re many apps wiser,” Apple’s gold-hued banner (seen above) reads. “Presenting our ongoing collection of the very best of the best.” Read More

Homescreens – August 2010

Read More

For those of you who are like myself in the regard of not checking the App Store daily, the streaming sensation Pandora has updated its iPhone app. The largest feature implemented is the support for Retina Display. It does look nice. What’s New In This Version: I thought my usage of Pandora would greatly increase with the background capabilities, but I was mistaken. Perhaps it’s the lack of 3G in my area, which makes it’s functionality nearly unusable. Nevertheless, the update makes it look cleaner on my home-screen. How often do you use Pandora? Read More

The rise and fall of various music-sharing sites and complicated legal battles has made the process of gaining unbridled access to all your heart’s content of music a difficult undertaking.  Thankfully, the music industry is slowly warming up to free online music discovery, and below are great places to start when you want to hear your favorite song for free legally. There are a number of great sites for hearing free music online, but most limit your access to songs you own or offer random playlists of songs you may like.  One site that rises above the rest in its ability to provide all the music you want is Grooveshark.  The ad supported Grooveshark website offers full access to any song you can think of along with the ability to Read More

App Smart - Suddenly, Mobile Music Services Are Everywhere - NYTimes.com

Music subscription services never quite struck gold with Internet users, but now that the smartphone is becoming the era’s standard listening device, a new gold rush is on. Established music services like Rhapsody, Pandora and Slacker continue to improve mobile service, but they are suddenly facing new mobile music competition. Depending on a person’s phone, budget and listening habits, the new services may be a better call. The services seem to be converging on the same target — namely, apps that let users hear personalized radio stations, build play lists and store songs for offline listening. No service has all of these features for all mobile platforms, but they are making progress. Rhapsody’s Premier service ($10 a month), for instance, is great for iPhone users, good for people with Android phones and useless on a BlackBerry until Rhapsody’s BlackBerry app arrives later this summer. Users can create play lists or listen Read More

Multitasking in iOS 4 allows compatible apps to run in the background while another app runs in the foreground. Apps in the background can continue to perform tasks such as play music streams. Slacker Inc has announced that its personal radio application, Slacker Radio, has been updated to support multitasking and is available now for free on the App Store. Apple spotlights apps ready for iOS 4.0

We already spotlighted a few big apps that have made the jump to iOS 4 (and I'm sure we'll have more coming up soon), but Apple has gone ahead and put a few of its favorites on a page in iTunes for you to browse through as well. There are some excellent games on the list (PopCap didn't waste any time, and Ngmoco has a few, along with both Firemint titles). Art app Brushes and TUAW favorite Dropbox are there too, along with a bevy of other popular titles. This list definitely isn't definitive (iBooks is obviously ready for iOS 4, though it's not on there), but if you want to see what the Retina Display is like or check out multitasking on an app like Pandora, you can do so. One interesting note on what's not on there: Apple hasn't yet updated its official Remote app, and Texas Hold 'Em Read More

First day thoughts on iPhone 4
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Fri, 25 Jun 2010 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
The day has finally come. After 2 1/2 hours in the reserved line, I was able to walk out with the iPhone 4 up and running, albeit without contacts, music, videos or my app collection. Getting it home and synced was uneventful. iTunes detected the new phone and dutifully restored everything. A couple of reminders, however: First, some passwords won't survive the sync. I had to sign on to Pandora again, enter my email passwords once more, and tell my Navigon app that I did indeed purchase traffic and panorama view maps. Tapping their icons re-loaded them, but the panorama maps don't display properly just yet, while the regular 2D and 3D maps work just fine. Hopefully this will be part of a Navigon update that includes multitasking. Oh, and your Bluetooth devices will have to be re-paired as well. Speed increases are pretty obvious and very welcome. Background streaming music on iOS4: Slacker Radio & Pandora both given updates
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhoneFreak - Posted Wed, 23 Jun 2010 14:01:50 UTC +00:00
The rush to update apps for iOS 4 is upon us, and for me one of the most important to become iOS 4 ready with support for backgrounding are the music streaming apps. And sure, there are lots to pick from these days, however I think most will agree that Slacker Radio and Pandora are two of the most popular. Well, in a little bit of good news for those that prefer to stream — both Slacker and Pandora have been updated and are iOS 4 ready. The Slacker update arrived yesterday evening with support for backgrounding. Plus the update is also noted as having “various improvements and enhancements.” The update for Pandora also arrived yesterday and included support for backgrounding as well as “other bug fixes and minor enhancements.” In short, you can now stream music while surfing the web or checking your email — and best of all — Read More
Apple Releases iOS 4 as Free Upgrade, Developers Scrambling to Release iOS 4 Compatibility Updates
Mini_discussion_bubble Touch Arcade - Posted Mon, 21 Jun 2010 17:46:42 UTC +00:00
Today is the day that all the wonderful things we heard about during the WWDC keynote regarding the future of the iPhone OS, now officially dubbed iOS 4, are available to everyone. This update is completely free, and only requires you to plug your device in to the computer you usually sync with then waiting for it to download and install in iTunes. There are over 100 new features in iOS 4 according to Apple, but so far my favorite two are folders and multitasking. With folders, you can now have up to 2160 apps on your device, and multitasking now allows for apps like Pandora Radio [Free] to continue playing in the background. For a listing of the other features, take a peek at the Apple iOS 4 Software Update page. One unfortunate thing to come out of this update is that first generation iPhone and iPod touch users are Read More

Hands-On with Pandora and iOS 4 [VIDEO]
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Mon, 21 Jun 2010 19:02:21 UTC +00:00
by Now that iOS 4 is here, we wanted to take a look at some of the coolest new features. Multitasking has long been one of the most-requested features for the iPhone, and one application scenario has consistently been used to argue for multitasking support: Pandora. While users have always been able to listen to music while doing other tasks using the built-in iPod app, device owners who prefer to use a streaming service like Pandora haven’t been able to do so. That can make long trips — you know, those occasions where you might want to read a book or group of articles and listen to music — pretty painful. Fortunately, Pandora [iTunes link] is fully supported in iOS 4. We’ve put together this video illustrating how Pandora works on iOS 4. As you can see below, the application works great and integrates ingeniously with the iPhone’s new app switcher Read More

More iOS4 Compatible Apps Hit the App Store
Mini_discussion_bubble The iPhone Blog - Posted Mon, 21 Jun 2010 19:13:23 UTC +00:00
We let you know a couple days ago there were a few apps that had already been updated via the App Store to support iOS4. Since then we’ve seen a few more roll out.  Some developers have really taken advantage of the new APIs in iOS4.  Others seem to just be adding compatibility at this point.  Let’s hope a lot of them are working on substantial updates.  Hit the jump for some more iOS4 compatible apps! Evernote (version 3.3.5) is one of the first I’ve seen to implement quite a few 4.0 APIs.  Not only does it come complete with fast app switching integration, but your notes will also be able to sync in the background.  This will be extremely useful for users who like to upload pictures.  I’m always doing this when I’m comparing prices.  I’ll take pictures of SKUs from different stores and tag them accordingly which allows me Read More
Pandora 3.1 enables background music with iOS 4
Mini_discussion_bubble IntoMobile - Posted Mon, 21 Jun 2010 18:34:10 UTC +00:00
The single most-used example of the benefits of multitasking with iOS 4 is the ability to stream Pandora music in the background. Well, the 3.1 version of the Internet music app finally makes that happen. The latest version of Pandora has a few minor bug fixes and minor enhancements but background processing is the big addition. “Backgrounding: Pandora keeps playing after you press press the home button. You can go surf the web or use Facebook and the music won’t stop. (Available only on multitasking capable devices with iOS 4.),” the company wrote in its app description. If you’ve never used the service before, it enables you to listen to various musical artists for free. You pump in an artist or song you like and Pandora streams you music that it thinks is similar to your tastes and interests. You cannot control the exact order of songs that are played and Read More

The popular service offering free, personalized music streams was one of the App Store's earliest success stories, and has been a favorite of Apple executives for their presentations. The new update brings the much-anticipated backgrounding feature first demoed at Apple's iOS 4 media event in April, taking advantage of the new multitasking APIs in iOS 4 to allow users to continue streaming music from the application even after switching away to other apps. Not a minute too soon! As expected, Pandora has updated the much-loved music app for the iPhone to version 3.1. This build will (drumroll) allow you to keep playing music when you move on to something else. Of course this will only work on devices that support multitasking on iOS 4, which means the iPhone 3GS and the new iPhone 4 available later this week. As I write this, Apple has just delivered the OS update for current iPhones, so those with the iPhone 3GS are good to go. This update will make a whole lot of people very happy. I tried out the 'music in the background' feature with the golden master of iOS 4, and it worked like a charm. Pandora did ask me to re-enter my password. Your mileage may vary on that one. Pandora! Ahead of Thursday's release of the new and improved iPhone 4, Apple is today launching a series of software improvements collectively known as iOS 4 to owners of older generation iPhones and iPod Touch devices. iOS 4, the updated form of the iPhone operating system, brings over 100 new features, some big - like folders for apps and unified inboxes - some small - like home screen wallpapers and threaded email - and some - like multi-tasking - which your old iPhone may not be able to run at all. Announced in April during a presentation on Apple's Cupertino campus, iOS 4 delivers several long-awaited features for many iPhone users, the most important of which may be "multi-tasking," the ability for apps to run in the background while you launch and use additional applications in the foreground. Developers must first update their iPhone apps to take advantage of this new feature, Read More
Pandora for iPad gets its first advertisers: Starbucks, Lexus and Budweiser

Awesome app, I love to find new artists. Pandora does great on giving you good variety. I just wish there was a wifi only setting so I don't drain my data if I lose wifi on my phone. Other then that no complaints
Ads?
Casey Krajewski 1.0 stars Version: 3.1.20
I don't like ads. To many, I shut the app off. Also we have a huge space missing left. I'm so let down. Way to many updates!
Love the fix!
Nico Marcucci 5.0 stars Version: 3.1.20
However, there are still some features that are available on a normal computer that I would love to see transfer to iPad. I'd love to be able to:- Edit stations (adding variety)- like songs after they've finished playing- see my profile so that I can purchase songs that I've 'liked'Also, add LYRICS pls :)
Great, but
Haileigh Methven 4.0 stars Version: 3.1.20
This is a great app. The only thing that really bothers me is how long it takes to switch songs when they're done. I have great service and all my other apps work fine, it's just really annoying to not be able to switch right over to the next song.
Way to many ads
Review69 1.0 stars Version: 3.1.20
I don't know why they show you the cover of the album you can't see it with all the ads. I totally understand they need ads but WOW. There is a commercial every other song. If I wanted to hear soooo many commercials I'll just listen to my local radio station. I use Jango Radio now no ads and no commercials.
Update broke it
Dev012 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.3
Updated it on 11/30 and it no longer works. Crashes every single time.
Stop requesting Pandora to play music when it's not open. They can't do anything about it.
rockosmodurnlife 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.4
No app, aside from the default Apple ones (like the iPod app), can run when it is not open. It is not Pandora's fault and they can't do anything about it. Stop posting reviews asking for this feature. Go to Apple's feedback page and request them let third-party applications run in the background instead. The app is good. I only want to be able to 'thumbs up' or 'thumbs down' or bookmark songs that have already played.
Great
Lynnkid781 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.3
App is great. Wish it would be like the one for blackberry and play in the background, but that's apples fault. People that complain that they only want one band don't understand pandora. Pandora music licenses won't allow it to play one artist back to back, plus by playing other artists you learn new music...
Pandora
BetaWar 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.4
Hey, it is free and has unobtrusive ads. You get to listen to music you like without buying it and as such I think is better than iTunes audio previews. If you like a song you can purchase it though iTunes easily.
Sellout

Pandora
Xavan Tasam 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.3
Pandora is a fantastic, nifty little app based off of the orginal website service. It's a free program that let's you listen to radio stations starring artists you choose and similar artists. The service has no subscription, a great little interface, and despite a couple speedbumps, provides a fantastic service overall. Pandora opens to a log-in screen. If you don't have a Pandora account, you can create on for free. Pandora users can then log straight into their account and listen to radio stations saved on the PC as well as add new ones. Pandora allows you to listen to whatever artist you choose via search engine. Type the artist you want (i.e. Steve Vai) and it'll begin playing with a song by that artist. It'll also play songs by similar artists (like Joe Satriani or Jimi Hendrix) which is great for introducing various music artists. You can rate the song with a thumbs up or thumbs down, or bookmark it to listen to a clip of it later. From there, you can search more songs in iTunes by that artist or buy that song from iTunes. The whole interface is very streamlined and is very simple to understand and use. You can double tap the artwork (which is often high quality) and see that band's bio. You can even tilt the iDevice on it's side to view the album artwork for all the songs you heard. It's very smooth and suffers little from bugs. However, the app does struggle occasionally, and it can be a bit jarring. Listening to music over cellular networks is either a little bit low quality or it skips, though it fares much better on Wifi. Also, the app only allows you to listen to music while it is open and the iDevice unlocked, so no jamming to new music by Mr. Scruff while playing old school Rolando. Sorry. Despite it's couple setbacks, the app Is a fantastic companion to new music searchers and those who can't afford new iTunes gift cards very often. Pandora should satisfy any music junkie's craving for new tunes, and will easily fit on your iDevice with it's free pricetag and small size. -Xavan Tasam.
Bug Fixes Cause App to Double in Size?
ADobkin 3.0 stars Version: 2.0.4
I am a big fan of Pandora and have used the iPhone app since it was first released. But something is fishy about the latest update. The "What's New" list simply says "bug fixes", but that doesn't explain why the app has almost doubled in size: version 2.0.3 = 680 KB, version 2.0.4 = 1,190 KB You might think, who cares? It is still only 1 MB, which is not much. If there were new features added, then it might make sense and wouldn't be an issue. But this is very suspicious to simply have "bug fixes" causes such huge bloat. Pandora needs to either provide a better explanation for the increase or re-post the update at the former size.
Warning vis-a-vis Privacy!
Thothamon 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.4
I am going to delete Pandora. Today I got an email whose title indicated that they used my personal, saved preferences in music to generate the email's title. I found this to be a complete invasion of my privacy in that they used information that was given strictly to run the program as a marketing tool. This is perhaps within the boundaries of their privacy agreement (I do not know if it is or not) but it is certainly not the way I want a program to work that resides on one of my platforms. Be aware that if you use Pandora and set up channels for yourself that all this information apparently goes not just to their music servers but to their marketing gurus as well. Goodbye Pandora!
Medialets are nothing new. They were in Pandora before this update.
Doug1965 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.4
I love Pandora on my iPhone, then and now. I use it at home and on the road, while running, while working out. It's great to be able to set a mood using a station/channel I have predefined. Neither the quality, nor the experience, has worsened from this update, as far as my sensitive ears can tell, and I hook my iphone into my home stereo at times to listen to Pandora, listening to it right now after the update to 2.0.4 and just love it. Listening to Enya and Lisa Kelly. Arguments that Medialets have suddenly ruined the app are crazy. They've been here for a while and are much more prefered to the audio commercials Pandora runs on the computer web browser version I used to listen to. Somehow Pandora has to monetize the service they provide or they will go away, it's a fact of business life. Also, those of you shorting Pandora for not adding background run capability need to do a little research on the iPhone itself.
WARNING - Medialets!! Do not upgrade!!
XenophageXXX 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.4
I've been using pandora on my iPhone for over a year, listening to it DAILY to and from work in my car, around my house and out and about. I would recommend it to my friends all the time... that is until this last update. The newest update added what's called Medialets, which track your behavior, and send all kinds of personal data about you to advertisers. The update was very misleading, stating that it was for "bug fixes", that's a lie. They decreased the audio quality (presumabley to coddle AT&Ts whining about their network usage), there's a very obtrusive message at the onset of the application, as well as the presence of Medilets. I will not be using Pandora any longer. I will hide the icon (thank you BossPrefs), and unless the last ipdate us reversed, I'll be deleting it in 1 month. Hello Slacker Radio. Oh, and for all you tard monkeys who keep complaining about the lack of backgrounding, either j@1lbre@k and install backgrounder, or bring your beef to Apple, it's their fault this isn't an option. The only thing third party apps are allowed to do, is "Save state", which essentially pauses the application until you open it again. It pains me to do this, because I really like Pandora on iPhone, but I'm giving you 1 star, at least be honest, seriously.
Excellent!!
jnbnsons 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
One of the few apps that actually worked flawlessly. Pretty fast loading over edge, no crashes, and was great to listen in the car! I love this!
I LOVE PANDORA!
ARothmanMusic 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
When I came home from college I discovered that radio in my town was awful, so I started listening to NPR and talk radio AM all the time. I almost never listened to FM music stations. Then I got an iPod and stopped listening to the radio all together. Until I discovered Pandora.com I had nowhere to find new music that wasn't commercialized crap. Now I don't have to be at my office or my desk at home to get this amazing source of great new music. I am so, so, so excited to see a Pandora app for my iPhone! God bless you Pandora!!!
Is you serious?

The Ultimate App Ever! Thank you so much.
Easily a killer app
levl289 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
With full cell reception in Los Angeles, I'm able to stream with the 2G iPhone no problem - this is one of the easiest to use apps I've seen. Delivers exactly what it promises. Now if only the headphones could control the play order (pause, next track), though I'm not sure if apps have access to those messages...
Great APP
RobPasha 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I think this is the best internet app around. Very intuitive and runs smooth with iPhone 2G
Fantastic - when it doesn't crash

Best free app!!
Jun81 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I usually don't take the time to give my own reviews but after using this little gem for the past few days I had to give in! This app I'd so wonderful and it keeps surprising me with the vastly wide selection of music. I've only hit the skip button a few times to change songs because the random selecting seems to know what you like! Can't believe this is free!! A must have for anyone!
Works perfectly
chstuder 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app works over EDGE without hickups and is very nicely done! Looks and behaves like the iPod app.
Deciding Factor to sink into a 2yr contract
jbarzy 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
so i've been sitting out the hype on these devices. granted, they are great but i really didn't see anything more than just a pretty phone w/ a few static apps. now that the app store is open, i was excited to see legit groups release stuff for this. imo pandora's app was literally the deciding factor to jump into a 2 year contract with att. best of all, it’s FREE!
The wait is over!
tonyash 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Finally Internet radio on the iPhone. I've been waiting over a year for this. It works flawlessly and even surprisingly well over EDGE. Recommend for anyone who likes music. Pandora is the best!
Great but with one major flaw
Simafam 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.2
This application is awesome! I use it several times a day! However, the fact that one cannot leave it running while checking email or typing SMS is a huge negative! It is not Pandoras fault but Apple's! Still, for most apps I can understand why Apple doesn't allow multitasking, but it does NOT make sense for this app! This Apple policy should be evaluated on a case to case basis! That would be much more sensible!
The best application so far!!!
msilva001 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This application is incredible, i have been using Pandora at work and it has always introduced me to new bands, and artists. Now having it on the go is amazing; and it even works over the edge network. A definite must have.
Amazing App

I remember thinking a few weeks ago, with an iPhone I can go to pandora.com, than wasn't too sure about flash on the iPhone. However, when I saw this app, my jaw dropped and I've been using it for a few hours and it's flippin' amazing guys!
HOLY CRAP! I am SO excited Pandora is available now for the iPhone!
bRaD 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Pandora is an exceptional service. I listen to it all the time at work. So very cool I can now take it with me!
If I Could Give it 6 Stars I Would!!
jcdoyleonline 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
By far the most incredible radio experience ever online - you customize your music just by creating stations based on your favorite artists. YES it does work over the EDGE (although takes initially longer to load than wireless), it is better than Satellite Radio because it is music you like, not preset stations! I have found so many more artists I love through this program, thank you!!!
Simply Amazing
Yosmel 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was truly shocked by how great this application was. All I did was type in the name of the first band that came to mind (In my case, Linkin Park) and the stream of A+++ alternative / rock songs never stopped.
My jaw dropped..
MusicD00d 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
..when I saw this on the App Store! This has been a dream of mine to get Pandora on my iPhone ever since I was waiting in line last year for iPhone 1.0 : ) The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star App is something admittedly out of Pandora's control; the music quits as soon as you switch Apps, and you can't pick up where you left off. This is a limitation put upon all 3rd party Apps unfortunately.
Sliced bread?
ToPheR515 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is WAY better than sliced bread!
Amazing - I might cancel Sirius for this
diablo900t 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've never heard of Pandora before, but the music choices made are incredible! The song selection is better than what i've heard on satellite radio, and having this app work over edge makes it even better.
One Of The Top Reasons To Get iPhone 3G
sjones411 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
The Pandora Internet Radio client for the iPhone works incredibly well. The team has done a great job of making it feel just like the iPod application. It even keeps playing music if you lock your phone. However, you cannot listen to music and use other applications like you can with the iPod app. This isn't Pandora's fault though, and is a limitation of the SDK for the iPhone. The program works flawlessly over a Wifi network, with no lag what so ever. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Pandora did not limit you to wifi however, and was able to (poorly) stream music over Edge. About ever 30 seconds the iPhone would have to wait and catch up. I would imagine that this would not be the case on the iPhone 3G however, so if you're looking for another selling point for Apple's latest Super-Phone, then consider Pandora on the go one of them.
FINALLY!
Someone Used My Name 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I have been waiting for Pandora for so long. The website is flash based so of course I haven't been able to use it on my iPhone, but now with this app I can get the full experience of Pandora in what is a seemless integration between apple software and the BEST music program out there. The music plays just like the iPod on the iPhone and for those hooked up to Wi-Fi connections you can purchase the song your listening to from iTunes right away. Not good for wallets. The only problem I have with it is you cannot continue playing the music while you do other things. As soon as you hit the home button the music stops. You can however play music and lock your phone which is good for those of us who run or work out and would like to listen to something new. Thats what Pandora does, it lets you listen to something new, and rarely am I ever dissapointed by something I hear. Everyone should get this app. ITS FREE! Experience new music, FULL SONGS not snippets, FOR FREE!
Very stable and usable app.
pradeepta 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is the best app on the appstore. Used it for 30 mins sessions, never crashed. I still can not believe that I can listen to Pandora anywhere now. This is one app that I will use everyday.
This is simply amazing.
rkho 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Pandora Radio is an amazing, must-get application for the iPhone. I initially didn't want to pick up any radio stations at all, but I was given a huge recommendation from a friend on Twitter earlier in the day so I checked it out. After about five minutes of playing around with it, I fell in love. This is a customizable, personalized radio station application. You input artists you love listening to, and Pandora constructs "stations" around the chosen artists' genre, sound and style. I would gladly pay for this application and give it a very high recommendation.
Works over Edge!
Bobbill 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It works flawlessly over the Edge network driving down the highway! Even in areas of weak signal. Worth $9.99 ... Oh wait, it's free.
