Men like hitting stuff. At least, the “manly-men” of the world do, according to EA. The studio has kicked off its own Fathers’ Day celebration on the App Store, slashing prices for several of its action and sports-oriented titles. Big names like FIFA 11 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Madden 11 have been reduced to pennies, while others are receiving generous discounts. Dead Space, for example, is now just $3. Overall, there’s over a dozen EA-published games available at 85-percent off the normal rate. We’re not sure how much longer the “Many-Man sale” -- no joke -- will last, so it’s probably wise to grab any of these while they’re on the cheap. EA Mobile has already brought two successful versions of the Monopoly franchise to the iPhone/iPod touch, classic Monopoly [$2.99] and The World Edition [$2.99], but now it's the iPad's turn. Obviously the larger screen of the iPad makes for a more enjoyable experience with a virtual board game, but EA has also added a few interesting twists to the game to make it more than just a straight digital conversion. Those of you who were turned off by the Here and Now Edition of Monopoly that had been in the App Store will be pleased to find out that EA has finally released the Classic version. Monopoly brings the classic Monopoly board game to the App Store. The game offers a somewhat gratuitously 3D view of the game and even offers internationally localized versions of the board. The game seems to pull your iPhone's region settings (see here) to present the proper board. The game comes with 3 levels of difficulty against AI opponents and also offers local Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (2 players), and Pass & Play for your friends. I was waiting for it quite a while, and it certainly paid off! I was concerned with the review for the previous version of Monopoly, specifically the mandatory auctions, and the "cheating AI". With this version, you can turn off the Auction mode, and playing the easiest level seems to be good for the AI. The AI is getting doubles, but in a logical way (not every throw, like in the hard game). Overall, a big WIN! BTW, I think there is a bug, and 3 (the hardest level) is actually the easiest one (i.e. no cheating AI - mind you, getting doubles all the time is cheating, not artificial intelligence!)
