Reviewing games you have a history with is always difficult, especially when they're derivative titles from a series you hold dear to your heart. Looking back on it, at some point I've owned each of the eight Burnout games that make up the franchise going back to the original that was released all the way back in 2001. If you've never played a proper Burnout game (which is a problem you really should look into solving) here's what the series is all about- Imagine a high-octane arcade racer that not only has a fabulous sense of speed, but takes the typical car damage system dozens of steps further into a car crashing system. Instead of merely beating the competition to the finish line, gameplay focuses on making sure your your opponents never actually make it there. Subsequent sequels took this many steps further, even evolving into entire game modes that focused

Big news broke this morning: Illusion Labs, the creators of Sway [$4.99] and Labyrinth 2 [$4.99], have announced that it’s working on a follow-up of sorts to Touchgrind [$4.99], a fascinating touch-based skate boarding title that made waves with the touch crowd. This follow-up is Touchgrind BMX, a multi-touch BMX-oriented trick game slated to hit later this spring. Details are light at the moment, but Illusion Labs did send us over the following trailer and this little nugget: “Your skill and imagination,” Illusion Labs says, “are the only limits to unlocking bikes and locations all over the world.” Dudes are teases, right? Judging from the trailer, it appears as though this BMX iteration of the series will feature a similar true-to-life physics engine, as well as realistic visuals. The physics are the part we’re super pumped about: Touchgrind tricks were a blast to pull off because of them. We’ll obviously keep our

Precio: 3,99

Adult Swim's Robot Unicorn Attack [99¢] had an update hit mere moments ago to add full OpenFeint support with both online leaderboards and achievements. If you've been annoyed by your inability to truly boast about your best runs other than posting to Facebook or Twitter, make sure you grab this update ASAP. If you still haven't downloaded the game yet, it's still on sale for 99¢ and I really recommend picking it up. It's a quirky take on the see how far you can go platform game type that has become so popular on the App Store, and it's even available online as a free Flash game. The inclusion of online leaderboards answers my only gripe about the game, and I really can't recommend it enough. Illusion Labs' Labyrinth 2 [$4.99 / Free] also saw an update today which aside from high resolution graphics for the Retina Display of the iPhone

I never really was able to get in to Touchgrind [$4.99] because of how zoomed in the camera needed to be to provide a good playing surface on the iPhone and iPod touch. Back before anyone knew the iPad even existed they released a video of the game running on a huge multi-touch surface, and ever since then I've wanted to play the game on a much larger screen. Anyone with an iPad will be able to enjoy playing the game like this tomorrow with Touchgrind HD [$7.99], and it even includes a two player split screen mode. Similar to the video of Touchgrind on a huge display, they also released a video of Labyrinth 2 [$4.99 / Free] being played on a 24" LCD with a PlayStation 3 controller taped to the back to capture the tilt controls. Labyrinth 2 is a game we absolutely loved in our review, and

Editor-in-Chief, iLounge Published: Friday, December 4, 2009 Category: iPod, iPhone, and iPad Gems: Apps, Games + More Welcome to this week’s second catch-up edition of iPhone Gems. We’re continuing to work through a large number of recent game releases for the iPhone and iPod touch, and today have three new titles to share with you: the three-dimensional airplane shooter Ace Combat Xi, the ball-and-maze game Labyrinth 2, and the tank warfare game Project Phoenix. The clear pick of this bunch is Labyrinth 2, but the other games are worth hearing about, as well. Read on for all the details. Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion Something is still very, very wrong at Namco. Most of its iPod and iPhone games have been clunkers—mediocre ports and updates of old games—and now, when it has finally released something truly awesome, it has managed to deliver so little value for the dollar that we

Many iPhone developers are just itching to show off what they can do with the iPad’s higher resolution and extra screen real estate, and as always, Illusion Labs has jumped to the head of the pack by demoing Labyrinth 2 on what they are calling the “bigPad.” The folks at Illusion Labs are no strangers to unique tech demos. In the past they have demoed Sway and Touchgrind on a giant touch-based table, and Touchgrind using only a MacBook Pro’s trackpad. But today they chose to demo what it would be like playing Labyrinth 2 on an iPad, well, more like a 24″ iPad. From the looks of things, the device being used is actually an Apple Cinema Display rigged up with an iPhone in some sort of fashion, but it kind of makes you want a 24″ iPad, doesn’t it? If this doesn’t get you excited for iPad gaming, maybe

Three lite versions of games we enjoyed were all released recently. If you don't yet own these games, you really should at least give the lite a spin. (Full: $4.99) - Quite possibly the best ball rolling game on the iPhone, we really enjoyed Labyrinth 2 in our review. Like the original game, the goal of Labyrinth 2 is to get the silver ball from the starting point to the goal while navigating walls and avoiding the holes. In the first version, that was pretty much all there was to it. Labyrinth 2, however, adds a number of new elements that graduate the game from simple wooden toy simulator to arcade game. These elements include cannons, bumpers, doors/switches, magnets, fans, resizers, merry-go-round, duplicators, lasers and more. Navigating the levels still require careful tilt control to avoid falling to your death, but are also more puzzle/goal driven as you must also figure

Published: January 14, 2010 Comment Labyrinth 2 improves on the beloved original in every possible aspect, and then some. Click for review, and a free TouchGen level pack!Illusion Labs has already made a name for themselves by boasting some of the highest productions values in early iPhone games. Games like Sway and Touch Grind absolutely blew us away with the amount of polish involved before public release. Their very first project, the original Labyrinth, was the first game I ever downloaded for my iPhone back before the App Store was in existence. Yes, I had a jailbroken iPhone back then… but who didn’t? The game had the best tilt interactivity of any game out there, which allowed for a very realistic marble maze experience. This was the game that I would show all my friends, who were in turn impressed with the realism, and just how simply fun the

Scouring the App Store for the best games is a full time job. Luckily, it's a job held by the guys over at Touch Arcade. Here are their picks for the best games—and only games—available on the iPhone. While the App Store had clearly been a huge success in 2008, the continued growth and explosion of iPhone game releases in 2009 was beyond everyone's expectations. The number of apps in the App Store soared past 100,000 with hundreds of new games being released every day. We sat down trying to figure out the best iPhone games of 2009 and found the task of narrowing down the list to a select few to be near impossible. Instead, we've organized our year in review into categories with what we feel is an excellent cross section of games from 2009. If you just got an iPhone or iPod Touch for Christmas, this list is

Labyrinth 2 is one of those apps that makes you feel grateful that Apple has an App Store. Hidden behind its miniscule $4.99 price tag is a game that combines all of the essential components in creating a mobile phone game: it’s fun, it’s simple, it’s creative, and it’s addicting. But what really drives home the value of this app is its longevity. The game comes with a code that allows you to create your own levels on your home computer. This expands the replay value of this game to almost infinite levels (pun intended). There is one basic thing to know about Labyrinth 2′s gameplay: tilt. This game is all about the iPhone’s accelerometer. If you’re uncomfortable using that, this game might not be your cup of tea. I would, however, encourage you to still give it a shot. Prior to Labyrinth 2, I was never a fan of

If you dig Labyrinth games (it seems like there are more than a few of them out there… ) then Labyrinth 2 for the iPhone is certainly worth a look. Granted, it’s a little on the expensive side at $4.99, but if you get a kick out of accelerometer based fun, it could be worth it. This latest edition to the Labyrinth series offers new obstacles and elements including cannons, bumpers, multiple balls, magnets, fans and much more. You can create and share your own levels… Then, download and rate levels created by others all around the world. Very cool. If you’re into single player action, try to beat your best times as the game displays a ‘ghost ball’ emulating your best run. If multiplayer is more your thing, up to 4 players can play over your wireless network or Bluetooth. James was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada. Almost 15

Co-Written By: James Isabel Illusion Labs ain’t Illusion Labs if they’re not to bring us totally unique and expertly designed games, this game is no exception. The original became one of the initial staples of the (then) just beginning AppStore. What with the finesse in design, absolutely perfect physics supported with sounds, it’s not one to be missed. Turn the book a year later and Illusion Labs has completely redesigned the “genre” again. Cue the copycats to follow. Presentation The original Labyrinth looked good, but somehow Illusion Labs has made it better. First of all looking at this game you can’t really make it anym0re 3D, but the subtle improvements made to the game such as seeing the sides of the walls as you tilt the game really make this look awesome. Instead of a game where you a rolling it into 2D lines on the screen it’s almost like there

Illusion Labs has just released Labyrinth 2 in App Store [iTunes Link]. Beautifully designed and fun to play, Labyrinth 2 transforms your iPhone into a classic wooden labyrinth/metal ball game, but it's a lot more than that. Labyrinth 2 isn't just about manual coordination and keeping the ball from treacherous holes, it offers clever tricks and twists including gates with button-based controls that limit access to certain parts of a given maze, magnets, limited-access twirling discs, bb shooters that displace your ball, and more. I am not normally a big fan of coordination-based games. I personally have the coordination of a dyspeptic llama doing heavy pharmaceuticals. I love that Labyrinth 2 offered many levels without the "avoid the hole" dynamics that I could play and enjoy. The visual and sound design for this game are superb. I loved the care that went into it, from the diagonal main menus to the

Yesterday Illusion Labs released Labyrinth 2 [App Store, $4.99], the next iteration of the wildly popular Labyrinth marble game [App Store, $2.99]. Labyrinth 2 takes things to the next level with tons of new game elements including lasers, cannons, magnets, and more. The new multiplayer feature allows you and up to three friends play together over WiFi, and levels can be created and edited using their online level editor, levelpack.com. I could probably go on and on about the new additions in Labyrinth 2, but the video and screenshots really say more than I can. Continue reading for both!

Buy this app!

Version: 1.0.0
The first Labyrinth was one of the most responsive, best looking games in the app store. This one is, believe it or not, leaps and bounds better. The added arcade style elements, and the easy setup they have for creating your own levels make this sequel well worth your money (4.99 at the time of my purchasing). You will find yourself losing track of time playing this game. This is possibly the finest example of the iPhone/iPod Touch's responsiveness yet.
Excellent!

I bought the first version, and loved it for its accuracy. After only a few minutes of playing version 2, I am already in love with its innovation! This is clearly a really strong sequel, I can't wait to see everyone's custom designs and build some myself (cool trick: holes can be used to a player's advantage thanks to the checkpoint system).
