Posted 03/23/2010 at 7:34am | by Jason Whong By now, you've probably launched the Camera app and taken a few pictures. Maybe you've even shared these pictures with other people. Though the built-in camera doesn't do everything your point-and-shoot does, and it will never have the optical abilities of a DSLR, it has a major advantage over dedicated cameras: the iPhone OS lets you install apps that take your pictures and video to another level. Here are 10 great apps that let you create, modify and share your images. You probably don't need all ten, as there's some feature overlap among these apps. Try a few of these to see if your creative mind enjoys using a variety of tools. CameraBagPublisher: Nevercenter Ltd. With Apple allowing developers to take advantage of the iPhone's abilities to take video, regardless if it is a 2G, 3G, or 3GS, we are now seeing a few video apps hit the app store for the lesser of the phones. iVideoCamera puts the ability to take and save video on the 2G and 3G. This has been done before but iVideoCamera offers some interesting options to choose from during and after the recording. The app offers two different modes to record in. There is the basic mode which gives an infinite amount of recording but the quality will suffer. There is also the high quality mode which will record in a better format, 320 x 426 to be exact. The app hits 10 frames per second which is great for any 3G user but 3GS users are better of using the standard app. After recording the movie, it can be

Nobody was waiting longer for the change than mobile video startup Qik, which tonight is further building out its collection of iPhone apps with the launch of the Qik VideoCamera. The new app allows the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G to locally capture video — something that only the 3GS has been able to do until recently. Qik has, of course, made its name building live streaming apps that allow users to broadcast their video

Until now, the only way you could record videos on your iPhone 2G or 3G was to jailbreak it and use Cycorder. For some reason, Apple didn’t deem necessary adding video recording to the 2G or 3G, even though this isn’t a hardware issue, but simply a software one. This week, Apple finally approved the first video recording app in the App Store. The application is called iVideoCamera and can record videos at a whopping 3 fps… According to MacNN: Users will be limited to one-minute segments at 3 frames per second, while the resolution is just 160×213. The developer, Laan, claims the next update will bring improvements to the frame rate, resolution, and clip length. Just like the video camera of the iPhone 3GS, iVideoCamera allows you to save your videos directly to your camera roll and share them on FaceBook, YouTube, Vimeo or Twitter. iVideoCamera [iTunes Link] is available

What's this? Apple approved a video recording app for the iPhone 3G and iPhone OldGee? Like, for the App Store? Yeah, it's called iVideoCamera and it's 99 cents. It's pretty crappy. Okay, really crappy. Resolution is 160×213. At three frames a second. Three. And you only record for one minute. But you can share your cruddy video lots of places real easy! It's kind of a brilliant move, letting this fly, to muffle anybody complaining about video not making it to older iPhones, when it's even on the goddamn iPod nano. Who would want video this shitty on their phone? Nobody. (Never mind that Cycorder, a jailbreak app, somehow manages 15fps at a res of 384x288). [iTunes via TheAppleBlog]

In another surprising move, Apple has approved iVideoCamera [App Store, $0.99], an iPhone application that can record video on an iPhone 3G or 2G. Previously, the iPhone 3GS was the only device that could record video, and it was added as a native feature in the camera app. This app means it is now possible for the 3G and 2G to record video without being jailbroken. As great as this news is (it shows Apple is being more open about what kinds of apps they approve), it has some drawbacks, as you can imagine. The biggest one is picture quality. The iPhone 3G and 2G have less computing power, so the image quality suffers on that front. Their camera is also less impressive, being a mere 2 megapixels and not focusable. The result is that video resolution is only 160×213 compared to the iPhone 3GS’s 640×480, video is only 3-frames-per-second compared

If you’ve been reconsidering your position as a jailbreaker thanks to recent security threats or Apple’s strong disapproval, there’s now one more reason to consider going legit. Apple just approved a new app that allows iPhones other than the 3GS to record video. That’s right, both your iPhone 3G and even the older 2G model can now shoot video, without jailbreak. The app will cost you 99 cents, which is kind of aggravating, since this is basically a straightforward admission on Apple’s part that the only limitation heretofore that had prevented the older devices from shooting video was a software limitation, which it could’ve easily resolved itself. iVideoCamera (iTunes link), the app in question, is a third-party program, but at least Apple didn’t kill it from the start, I suppose, and it is still cheaper than upgrading to a 3GS. iVideoCamera is far from perfect, though, and it has other limitations

December 14th, 2009 Daniel Silva Well look what we have here. The new iPhone 3GS can record video from factory, but the previous iPhones (3G/1G) can’t, at least not without jailbreaking. Right? WRONG! Look what slipped by Apple: iVideoCamera. Knocking Live Video approval and now this. Has Apple finally let some doors open? Or is this a one time “holiday-spirit”-you’re-lucky-we-approved-it sort of thing. The iVideoCamera lets your record a short video on any phone. Now you don’t need a 3GS to record and share videos with your friends and family. Works with any 2G or 3G phone with 3.1 OS installed. BUT! But, it’s not perfect. In fact, it’s sorta shallow. According to the description, the app can only shoot up to about 1 minute in length, at 3FPS and at a 160×213 resolution. The good news: it looks like Apple might be warming up to the idea of letting all iPhones

Wow, Apple is definitely easing up on App Store rejections this Christmas. Only days after allowing a video streaming app, Apple just accepted an app that allows those of you with an iPhone 2G or 3G to take videos. The app, iVideoCamera, is very limited for now as it only takes 3 frames per second for no more than a minute. However the developers are working on improving it and we can only expect many more apps of this kind to hit the App Store soon. Here is the official description : The iVideoCamera lets your record a short video on any phone. Now you don’t need a 3GS to record and share videos with your friends and family. Works with any 2G or 3G phone with 3.1 OS installed and includes: Ability to save to your camera roll or “Photos” and share via: - FaceBook - YouTube - Vimeo - Twitter and

It appears Apple really is loosening it's grip on what developers can submit to the AppStore. I received an email today that informed me of a new App in the AppStore called iVideoCamera that lets your record about 15fps on any iPhone. Although this makes me wonder, with Apple being so kind to the new handful of Video apps, does this mean that we might be seeing OS 3.2 soon? And could it possibly include the addition of video recording for the iPhone 2G/3G? It's quite possible at this point, as they wouldn't want too many apps "duplicating" a function that "already exists". iVideoCamera also gives you the ability to save to your camera roll or "Photos" and share via, FaceBook, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter and more to come. With the approval of this App the devs are very excited to start updates. First Knocking, then UStream, I wonder what we will

Funny thing, friend of mine received a Sciphone as A present that records video just this evening. This made me angry at Apple and determined to get it on my phone as well even if it ment jailbreaking. Thanks to you guys I don't have to. Now I can't wait for updates. Good job!!!!
