Posted 09/07/2011 at 11:00am | by J Keirn-Swanson It's no secret that Apple products go hand-in-hand with education. In fact, for many Generation Xers, an Apple was the first computer ever seen in their classroom (shout out to the IIe!). With regular discounts for teachers and students, Apple products are the perfect back to school gift. And once you get back to school, time to hit the books and keep up that GPA. And here's some apps to help you do just that. Tapity's Apple Design Award winner, Grades 2, is an advance over its predecessor, Grades 1, and the app developers are looking at bringing even more functionality to this little app that could. The Facebook f creeps our grades out To begin with, Grades 2 is rock solid gorgeous (although the looming Facebook "f" on the open screen is a bit of a bad omen). A lovely light wood Read More

As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! Can’t remember where you parked your car last time you were out running errands? I’ve run into this problem more than once, and although there’s a few other nice parking apps in the App Store, Parkbud has proven to be the best in its class for me over the past few days since it was released. The iPad should be number one on every college student’s wish list. It’s pretty light weight and easy to carry, and with the diverse selection of apps available, you can really get more out of it than carrying your laptop to class. Our last feature in the 2010 Back to School Buyer’s Guide series is a look at some great accessories for the iPad. $69, Apple Store Touch screens are great, but extended periods of typing on them can be problematic. The Apple Keyboard and Dock is a great solution to help display your iPad while you type notes. If you have a different stand preference, you can buy the Apple Wireless Keyboard separately (for the same price) and use it with your iPad or any other Bluetooth-enabled Mac. $29, Apple Store These two adapters will allow you to plug your SD card or USB camera directly into your iPad and Read More

I have a confession to make that might put my Fanboy status in jeopardy. I wasn’t part of the iPhone click until the iPhone 3G veiled its beautiful body to us. It’s a humbling revelation that I feel necessary to share. I have only been able to enjoy the iPhone with the App Store available. Having done my share of downloading and reviewing, (72 apps on my iPhone 4 today), I often wonder if I have maximized the potential that the App Store can cultivate. It took me quite a while to break down and purchase paid applications. Probably too long. When I started adding iTunes credit to my account, it was if I was the conductor of entirely different ship. A much nicer ship. I first hit apps which reflected the interests related to my lifestyle. Engadget, ESPN Radio, Echofon, Words with Friends, Tiger Woods, and those similar were the Read More

Originally $79.99 (New Model Coming Soon), Blue Microphones Even if your iPhone has a built-in mic, a good external mic like this one from Blue will help you record your lectures for later playback. This particular Mikey is coming later this summer, so keep an eye on it as the current model doesn’t work well with the iPhone 4. $79.95, Apple Store What better way to listen to those recorded notes or relax with some tunes than through a good pair of speakers? The Philips DS3000 speaker dock is one of many great options. Useful educational iPhone apps for students
Mini_discussion_bubble CNET iPhone Atlas - Posted Tue, 06 Oct 2009 22:46:00 UTC +00:00
If the student in your life has an iPhone, they're probably text messaging, surfing the Web, checking e-mail, and using apps. And although the phone can be a distraction in the classroom, it can also be a viable companion for students. There are several great iPhone applications designed specifically for students. These apps all aim to make the student in your life just a little more productive in their educational endeavors. Since many college students use BlackBoard to access class information, BlackBoard Learn seems like an ideal choice for those students. BlackBoard Learn, a free app, allows students to access all the information they normally would find on their unique online account. They need only to download the app, input their username, and they will be able to access all their class information. Everything from teacher announcements to new assignments are available. They can even check their grades. It's a free Read More

Ah, the smell of erasers and chalk dust is in the air, which can mean only one thing: it’s back to school time in many parts of the world. While I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was happy my school days are behind me, I am a bit jealous that students heading back to school now have a plethora of great web and mobile applications to help them tackle the tasks involved with obtaining an education. I would have killed for some of the great applications available to students today — almost all of which are cooler (and more useful) than the Tetris app I used to play on my graphing calculator. In this list we’ve assembled ten of the must-have iPhone applications for students heading back to school. These apps will help you stay organized, take notes, and study better. iStudent Pro Might be the App For Your Dreams
Mini_discussion_bubble App Craver - Posted Sun, 26 Apr 2009 17:00:19 UTC +00:00
04.26.09        App Score: 8/10    iStudent Pro – I have this recurring nightmare that I’m a student and I’m very late for classes, or worse, I’m running up and down long hallways trying to find the right room. It’s apparently a common dream. If you’re really a student befuddled by crazy schedules, too many assignments due and exams to prepare for, then iStudent Pro from Andriy Kachalo and Michael Balashoff will sort things out for you. Launch iStudent Pro the first time and you’ll have the option of using it right away or taking a few lessons. I jumped right in because I wanted to see just how intuitive iStudent Pro is. Along the bottom menu bar are icons for Today, Calendar, Assignments and Courses. All are self-explanatory, so no worries about a steep learning curve. Step one is to input details about your student activities and requirements. To do that, Read More

Unresponsive developers drive me crazy!
William Wright 2.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
I have emailed the support numerous times asking about problems and suggesting knew features. They have never even given me the decency to respond and at least acknowledge my comments. Of course that means no changes have been made in the app either. Most of my problems were with the Mac version but some of the problems span all versions. First, there is no way to have a quiz or event in a class. For example I would want to have a quiz on the calendar but the only options are assignments and exams. Or maybe I want to have a reminder for the day I'm giving a presentation in class. Well there's no way to do it. Unlike iHomework there's no reading section, only assignments. The schedule is unusually difficult to enter, but that's a one time thing. It am just trying to help the developers create a more useful, better app as a loyal customer and patron of their business. But they seem to ignore me. Why listen to your customers right?
Ha
Chabaozb 3.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
Well, for no reason at all my classes were erased. It says they are there, just not on the calendar, which is what is important. This needs to be fixed, & if not Soon I want my money back. Overall it's an okay app. Pretty helpful but sometimes dry and not very precise to your own options
Better than any!!
Letmebeunforgetable 5.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
I was using inClass until it crashed more than it opened. :( I found this app and I was shocked that not everyone is using it! I am in RN school and use this app every day. I was very surprised when I input all of my assignments on my iPad 2 and went to do the same on my iPhone 4 (like I did with inClass) that it had all synced already!! It also synced my yahoo, gmail, and school calendar as well! In this app you are able to edit ANY one of your calendars. You are able to input grades for exams (VERY nice to see your grade at-a-glance!). I was between classes one day and opened the app and it popped up what class I had next and what was due. You are able to input one day classes for front-loading or extra credit days as well. In contrast with inClass, which only operates in landscape orientation, you are able to use this app in portrait or landscape view. I love this app and use it with my favorite note-taking app; Notability.
So close to perfect
Sourpatch231 3.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
I agree with the person below. I need to it remind me before it due. This app will be perfect when it does that. Also I feel I should be able to adjust my gpa but it does allow you to do that. Pleas add reading assign and a section for quizzes.
Great App… Needs Attachment capability
Deaks30 4.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
Great app.. fantastic for tracking exams and schedules. Love the notifications for it.while some complain you can only add assignments or exams (only exams show up in calendar function). You can re-name exams, for example "paper" so you can see upcoming projects on the calendar. As a full-time college student, I love this app.BUTTo make this app excellent… add the capability to upload attachments or PDF files. It would be so handy to be able to upload a syllabus to classes!!
Overrated crap
Cnote814 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
Freezes too much, and when I turn the iPod to get the other calendar view, it traps me in that mode and even resetting the program doesn't fix it. I uninstalled and reinstalled three times with the same result. Download the free version. Not as nice but at least you aren't wasting money. DO NOT PAY FOR THIS CR-APP!!!
Great, but could be better!
Juan Diaz de leon 3.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
I wish there was a support for people taking online classes. There's only an option for regular class, single class, or exam. I wish there was an option to support reading assignments. Not all classes have assignments but some have readings. So you can add the info of the book, what sections or chapters, etc.
This has all I could ask for and more
Hunter Martello 5.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
At first this app was a bit confusing (maybe just for me), but as soon as I figured it out I could easily see the power and capability of this app. I was just expecting a simple scheduling app but was blown away with all the added features. Grades, holiday settings, notifications of upcoming assignments and the ability to really organize your information (courses, classes, and semesters/marking periods.)This app really shows the great benefits of using technology in education and is easily worth the three dollars I spent on it. I hope this app can get the recognition it deserves and commend the developers for their wonderful app. Easily 5 out of 5.
Has Major Issues
Joseph Sides 1.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
I used to love this app. Ive now started my second semester and so, naturally, i began entering in my classes and assignments. I come home to find out that when I sync my iPhone to iStudiez it deletes all of my information that I entered. Very annoying. Now all of my homework that is due tomorrow is missing. Not happy. NEEDS TO BE FIXED!
Great app for college students
Shehaswnderbred 4.0 stars Version: 1.5.7
Only request is an option of different grading scales be applied for each class. Not all professors use the same grading method, although I wish they did...

iPhone 31 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
Love this app :D teachers have also complemented me on how I'm responsible and they also agree this is a cool APP! Just don't like that the new update is slow...
Great, but crashes.....
Mr. J. Skellington 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
Whenever I enter in a new assignment and change the course and time, it crashes. Otherwise, this app is great.
Needs block schedule
D.M. 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
This app is very helpful, but is there any way you can add a rotating schedule? As of right now I can't put my classes for the day down because of this. If that happens I'll give 5 stars.
Invaluable - BUT PLEASE UPDATE SOON!
teenEDITOR 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
publishers website says update is coming, please update soon!
Great! But...
rynox12 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
I love the UI. All the features are great. It has great organization too. But, Who decided on the name iStudiez Pro? Not only is it dumb, but it's misspelled, so it looks even more lame. I think the old name was both better sounding, and makes more sense. Also, many other competing apps have the ability to calculate grades/GPAs. I hope that this gets added soon. It seems so natural to add this feature to completed items, to keep track of progress in each course. Besides these two issues, this is the best functioning, and best looking app for students I've seen! Thanks!
The best for college!!
SunnySierra 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
This app is fantastic! The app shows how much the creators spent on this app. It will be very useful when I start fall semester! The only thing missing would be push, but I hear they're working on it! Definetly buy this app!
Please Update This!!
I paid for this? 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
I was excited about this because I am a recent transfer student in college--wanted to get started off on a good foot. But this app definately needs a few things that some people have already mentioned including... - a week view of the calendar. Not enough room to view classes if you have 3+ classes in a day. - please, please, please develop an alert system. I mean, when making this there wasn't any consideration of alerting the user about assignments that are due?? Kind of, no, very, upsetting and sub-par. I will update this later when I get to use to more intensively, but so far this app seems to be somewhat useful.
Simply amazing
babyblue01625 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
Amazing app., better than any paper planner and cheaper than one! And simple to use. I highly recommend for college kids.
Great app! But a suggestion...
ryan90v 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
This is a great app! I'm definately going to use it next semester as a college freshman. However, I think it would be great to get customizeable push notification alerts, where you can set when you are alerted, kind of like the Calendar app's alerts. That would make this app completely perfect :)
すばらしいです!!
るるく 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
とても便利です
Wow Amazing!!!
SheanZ 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
This is the best app that I have ever used. It is worth way more than what the price shows. This app is just unbelievable and words can't describe how helpful this app is. Thank you for the best app on the market. -Sean
Great!!

Thank you

This APP is perfect for students of school and students in college !!!GOOD APP!!!
Super !!! Best of the Best !!!
Chris_000 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
If your in college, you NEED this. I had an illegal copy of this, but loved it so much and was so grateful that I went and bought it !!!! That's how great it is !!! A few things/bugs to fix • When creating a new type of class, if you srcoll to a preinstall type yours is erased :( and they are never saved for future use on other courses :( • Would love a "Day View" . Maybe by double tapping a day on the "Month View" • Maybe even a "Week View", like when you rotate your iPhone in "Month View" For now that's it. Much thanks to the developer.
Awesome
onlyalullaby 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Love the look of this app; in fact, that's why I bought it. It's also super easy to use and keeps everything really organized. Plus, at $3 it's cheaper than most paper organizers I would have purchased. Not sure how much I like the name change, but I'll live.
Change the name back!!!
Youngplaya0228 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Awesome app, but wish they add a grade section. Would love for it to calculate ur average when u input the grades, section (homework, quiz, test), and the percent worth (homework = 10%). Oh and CHANGE THE NAME BACK. iStudiez sounds stupid, and is the reason I'm not updating.
Great to be organized

This app is great and with it's easy to use interface, you can use it without spending much time figuring out how to do things. One big thing I'd love to see is to set reminders or alerts for upcoming due dates for assignments. Either when going into the app or even take advantage of PUSH notification. If also like to see a way to keep track of graded assignments/quizzes/tests
I <3 this App!!!!

Easy to use and pretty to look at! lol Would really like to see a way to keep track of grades/GPA per class. Currently enrolled on a school that uses GPA instead of Letters for grades. The ability to ad recorded notes would be BIG PLUS ++++. Great app - will give a 5 star once more featurs are added.
They get it.

Form and function. A large amount of app creators fall short on one or the other. The one most often left in the dust is form. Apple has stood for great hardware mixed with great software and developers must strive to achieve great function and breath taking form. I think in this case they get it. I want an app to track my classes but I also want that app to look nice and they deliver. If they keep up with updating this app and adding features I think that this app will become the most popular Education app out there. Great work guys. Cheers.
Great but not 3.0 ready
Trimm 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
The app is excellent. I've been waiting for a long time for something like this. I love the intuitive interface and clean organization of my class information. However there are a couple of small bugs in the app with iPhone os 3.0. Fix these and the app will be great. One suggestion in the 3.0 update add a place for notes in the assignment box. And allow landscape keyboard for that too!! Awsome app, I recommend it for all.
Wonderful App!!

Great app!! Easy to figure out and use. I'd like to see the following in updates if possible. 1. Be able to input teachers and then select them from a menu so you don't have to type them in each time. At small colleges students have the same teachers over and over. 2. Be able to "turn off" one or more semesters on the calendar. For example, I teach 5 classes in high school and 2 in college and the calendar gets crowded. It would be great to view only one at a time if I wanted to. 3. Add textbook names so they can be linked to homework assignments. That would be nice in classes with more than one text. This is a great product. I'm a teacher using it to keep me more organized. I highly recommend it for any high school or college student wanting to keep track of assignments and schedules.
Great

I got this last month, and just love it. It's very well organized and easy to use. This is a great alternative to getting a planner and writing your assignments down. I hate wasting paper.
No Assignment Notes but Great App
Siea 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I love this app, so far. I can forsee it being useful to me in the future. However, compared to other schedule/homework apps, it's missing a key feature: notes for assignments. Then, I'd be able to have the title displayed on the assignments screen but then tap on it to see the assignment in detail. Otherwise, great app, thanks!
Awesome!

The look and flow is great!
I like it!

How could I miss it before? It appears to be selling since April! I like the way you can plan your schedule with this app, it just has everything you need (I would add assignments notes though). Surely a good choice for students.
Awesome!

The look and flow is great! Some improvements it needs: -add more information for teAchers -office hours and location -link to website -number and email -add option to include things due not only today but a week or two from now -specific campus of course
Good, great with some changes

I'm also ignoring the random crashes, assuming that will get fixed soon. I actually use this as a task manager app. I'm out of school, but I'm notorious for setting "deadlines" for projects. I would love to see the ability to add sub-parts for assignments - large projects have many parts, and I'm currently inputting them all as separate assignments. Also, it would be helpful if the assignments detail under the calendar view (when you click on a course for the day) were in date-due order, rather than alphabetical order. I've found myself thinking nothing is due soon just because the top of the list isn't due for a while. Finally, adding day of the week to the due date feature would be a nice touch. Overall the best planner tool I've seen.
Sweet, useful, unique

Great app! you realize this right at the first launch. I wish I had it before, it would save so much time to me with its cool calendars, schedules, labels. Take a look how intuitive and unique the interface is! You see right on calendar where your assignments are and never miss them. Now I'm in college again and can enjoy to use it on direct purpose but I see it really can be used for any task management. Thanks a lot!
Almost perfect

I am letting go the random periodic crashing considering this is version 1.0.9 and I assume it will be fixed shortly. As far features, AMAZING. Finally a decent homework / student schedule app. I was using iprocrastinate but I eventually figured out the developer abandoned it. Finally I have week view and my classes organized in semesters. I love the calendar view aspects (the flags for exams and dots for a class each day and paper clips for assignments).
Well done!

This app is great. I just added my summer session classes and I'm ready to go. I wish I had it at the start of the spring semester.
Great app but...

I bought this app to help keep me organized for the rest of my college years, and so far so good, except I think there needs to be a notes section for assignments, I have been putting them in the assignment title which ends up taking up room and can be hard to view. Great app altogether.
Nice!!!

This is a nice App but it crashes on me, i'm not sure if anyone else is expriencing these problems, And you should also create an option for an English version.
A helpful app, but could use some touch ups...
JZ Wire 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Ok, so I downloaded this app to organize my academic life and so far so good. The app has a nice interface, is quite simple to use, and with many useful features. However, I do think it could still use some improvement in several areas. When in calendar view, if you flip it to landscape mode the calendar is sometimes slow and will get stuck for a moment as you scroll through dates.
