"Captured by one of Orlandes City’s most infamous brotherhoods, the Red Hand Guild, you are thrown to the mercy of the subterranean world deep beneath the streets of the great capital. Wading through the sewers and other dark menacing places, your goal is to reach Undercity, the City beneath the City! Only there can you find the help you need to escape this underground horror and bring down the dark brotherhood from within."
"My favourite examples so far though are the iPad and iPhone-compatible Gamebook Adventures, a series of lovingly crafted and extremely well-written interactive fantasy novels. It's surprisingly engrossing stuff, the economically written narrative packing in masses of detail, while rattling out a pacey, involving story." - The Guardian
"The true gem, and the reason these are next iteration choose your own adventure books, is the dice component in the overall story." - 148Apps
Gamebook Adventures 5: Catacombs of the Undercity is the fifth in a series of newly written adventure gamebooks for the iPhone, iPod Touch and now beautifully realised for the iPad! We are completely original and not simply a re-print of old gamebooks.
•Includes all the interactive reading and gameplay features found in An Assassin in Orlandes, The Siege of the Necromancer, Slaves of Rema and Revenant Rising.
•Read the story and dictate the direction of the story! Options based on who you have met, where you have visited and what you have found.
•Written by Andrew Wright, Gamebook Adventures 5 takes you on an swashbuckling quest from the sewers of Orlandes City to the subterranean metropolis of Undercity.
•Pirkka Harvala, the popular illustrator from An Assassin in Orlandes, is back! His beautiful illustrations bring to life the denizens of this strange underworld.
•Battle an array of creatures from acid ghouls to spirit demons and find ways to get your revenge against the Red Hand Guild.
•Hire mercenaries to aid you in your quest!
•Unique battle system using realistic 3D dice which can be rolled by shaking your iDevice.
•Three difficulty levels: Classic, Bookworm and Novice.
•Lots of achievements to collect and artwork to find throughout the book. These are placed on your achievement wall.
•Illustrations can be viewed full screen by simply tapping on them in the book and we have higher resolution artwork for iPhone 4 and iPad users.
•New widgets at the bottom of each page access direct to your inventory, settings and main menu making easier than ever to find your way around the gamebook.
•An update to the constantly changing world map and gazetteer, Orlandes Uncovered. This now includes Rema and Drymar.
•Dramatic soundtrack composed by our Freeplay Independent Games Awards Finalist, Adrian Watkins.

Posted 11/04/2011 at 3:30pm | by J Keirn-Swanson It's hardly news that the iOS platform is one of the biggest markets for gaming. Whether it's a small developer or a huge app studio, games make up a huge percentage of the App Store. And who doesn't like a little gaming now and then? With these price drops, you'll be getting even more gaming bang for your buck. An old favorite, King of Dragon Pass is like Civilization meets Oregon Trail. A choose your own adventure style game, King of Dragon Pass is a combination of interactive storytelling and resource management. In the world of Glorantha, where HeroQuest and RuneQuest take place, you must control your clan as you move through daily clan life. There's not much time left in this sale, as the game turned twelve years old on October 29th and they cut the price from $9.99 to just $5.99.

We reviewed the first three Gamebook adventures a while ago, and loved the mixture of brilliant writing, fitting illustrations and classic choose-your-own-adventure style. We’ve recently been given the chance to get to grips with the fifth book in the series, entitled Catacombs of the Undercity. Like the previous books, it’s set in Orlandes City and this time the hero is captured by a gang and thrown into the sprawling catacombs which twist and turn below the streets. Your mission is to escape and bring those responsible to justice, but this task is much harder than it sounds! If you’re an experienced role-player, then the thought of battling through dimly lit tunnels will probably appeal, and it certainly did to me! Thanks to the descriptive writing, it’s easy to lose yourself in the story and even without the help of those excellent illustrations – from the same artist who worked on An

Love the books so far. Head and shoulders above the other game book series on iPad. I know the gamebook roots are in Fantasy, and I love the stories so far, but I would LOVE to see some genre diversity soon. Some Science Fiction would be great. I think mystery/suspense books could work nicely. One thing that I have always wanted, and I don't know how feasible it would be, is to have the ability to "take" your character with you from one book to the next. I thought I saw someone doing this already, but I'm not sure if it's possible with this level of detail and involvement in the stories. Heck I would even like to see a series of "Animal Fantasies" akin to books like "Watership Down" and "Redwall". Hell, "Raptor Red" would've made an awesome idea for a Gamebook. Sorry, got carried away there. For new readers, get this gamebook, you won't be disappointed. Thanks again Tin Man!
