I've met with Nitzan Wilnai at the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) several times. His Engineous Games has grown over the years. The group recently released Sketch Nation Shooter to great success. It lets you build a shooter title by uploading or drawing your own art. As of this writing, it has been download over 800,000 times, generating a significant user base. Wilnai's next project, Sketch Nation Studio, has been in development for a while, and I suspect it could threaten how the App Store itself works. If we post a review, it's almost a no-brainer that an update will go live in a few days seconds. That being said, we can't just re-review every game that gets an update, or the site would be more packed with re-runs than TBS. That said, these are three apps we'd happily re-evaluate. Infinity Blade is almost definitely the prettiest game on iOS devices. Two players can connect via Game Center (or be randomly matched-up) and race to hit the 12,000 foot mark—without falling or being knocked down by an enemy. Lima Sky has just released an updated version of its insanely popular Doodle Jump game. The 2.0 release adds the ability to compete against your friends in a multiplayer race to the top. The multiplayer race requires a Wi-Fi network and is limited to your Game Center friends. Last month at Macworld 2011 I spent some time playing with XMG Studio’s latest game Cows vs Aliens [99¢], and yesterday it became available for download in the App Store. Cows vs Aliens is a super casual high scoring game that uses a gameplay mechanic that struck me as especially unique. I enjoyed my ten minutes or so of playing Cows vs Aliens at Macworld, but now that I have the full game in my hands I’m liking it even more and finding it especially hard to put down. It’s a rather uncool—and frivolous—move that will only hurt their reputation. The creator of Doodle Hockey has pointed out that, according to Trademark Office records, Lima Sky only owns the trademark to the words “Doodle Jump” together (again, in the context of computer games), and not the word “doodle” on its own. There doesn’t seem to be a legitimate reason for their sudden doodle-cide, and they certainly don’t have any legal platform to jump stand on. If you're looking for something to get you in the spirit of Halloween, this new update should do the trick. The Doodler has undergone the terrible transformation to the Frankendoodler, and all of the monsters now are Halloween themed. Something to be aware of is that this update is a bit of a double edged sword. The small handful of games that have been released or updated to with support for the Retina Display are gorgeous, and everything else both loads faster and performs better. Loosely based on the Nintendo DS game , Trees of Doom is a high-scoring jumping game like Doodle Jump [99¢] set in the Shawnimals universe, Ninjatown: Trees of Doom has players jumping between two trees, avoiding obstacles and picking up power-ups while seeing how high they can go. Earlier this week, Apple announced that they had reached over 3 billion downloads in the App Store over the past 18 months. Of course, that number includes both free and paid downloads. Adding more color to the number is the fact that Gameloft announced today that they had successfully reached 10 million paid downloads themselves. Their numbers were helped by holiday sales which typically see massive boosts in App Store traffic and downloads due to an influx of new iPod Touch and iPhone owners. As indicated by yesterday’s Flurry analytics data, Christmas day was massively successful for iPhone app developers, but today, thanks to iTunes Connect finally being up and running as it should, developers are finally able to weigh-in on just how successful the big day was. According to TechCrunch, Doodle Jump was able to sell about 80,000 units on Christmas day while being ranked in the top five. Freeverse’s Skee-Ball, which is currently the #1 paid app in the App Store but wasn’t on Christmas day, sold 47,926 units. That’s reportedly 10x the sales from the previous Friday. Freeverse’s other $.99 app, Flick Fishing, which currently sits at #16, sold 31,741 units on Christmas day. Those are just some examples of top-selling apps, but apparently apps located a bit lower on the chart still saw large increases in sales. I got a first look at Semi Secret Software's Canabalt [App Store] back at GDC Austin, received a preview build a few days later, and since then the game has soaked up an extraordinary amount of my free time. Canabalt has the same appeal to it as other extremely simple games for the iPhone like Doodle Jump [99¢] or the various NimbleBit games such as Scoops [$1.99]. The premise is simple-- You play as a guy who is running across roof tops attempting to escape from some kind of alien invasion that is constantly taking place in the background scenery. Of all the apps I have on my iPhone this is the one I play on a daily basis, if I had to choose only one app I could keep on my iPhone this would be it. The game play is simple yet challenging, the main character is cute and the sound effects are cool, I like the sound when the doodle character falls and the sound the monsters make. Constant updates keep this game interesting, but even without updates this game is very fun. Some things I would like to see would be, if the doodle character got high enough it would become outer space with less gravity, or perhaps a dark night background with glowing platforms. also a user profile to allow multiple people to play on my iPhone and let them have their own high scores. I would also like to know what the name of the little doodle character is, and I would love to buy a T-shirt with the doodle character wearing his rocket pack if such a T-shirt were available.

Doodle jump is an incredible game with excellent sounds and graphics. It's developed almost a cult status at our school, and everyone either has or plays doodle jump. That's because it's just that fun. It's cute, exciting, interesting, and simple. It's the first and only game I've paid for because it was so worth it, and I highly recommend everyone to get it.
The only downside of doodle jump is that you cannot easily play while laying in bed, and this becomes a problem when you are tired and want to go to bed but cannot stop playing doodle jump. This issue could easily be solved by implementing a calibrate feature, and I'm hoping to see one in future updated. Other than that, I <3 doodle jump!!

If you're going to keep adding features, you will need to keep two world servers, one for the top 100 on classic original doodle jump, and one for the constantly changing jazzed up version. This app is great! Fun, simple, and addicting! What more could you ask for? There are a few things that would make this app even better though and they are:

It's a really enjoyable game that's definitely worth the money, but could use some more innovation (I know that sounds stupid, but I couldn't think of a better word :D). One suggestion I have is to make it so that the cracked platforms, when jumped upon, will break 50% of the time and stay as the are 50% of the time, so landing on them is risky. Another suggestion is to maybe have it where, if you touch an enemy, if you fall and hit a platform that is on the screen you can be revived.

When you hit a monster, you should beballowed to keep jumping but have the screen start shaking to make it harder. It's frustrating for me cause I get so far then havento start over and make it all the way back.

so simple but so fun! I can't stop playing. My only reason for 3 stars instead of 5 are a couple issues. One's a bug -- the game over screen disappears before you have a chance to press the "play again" button. The other is the lack of pause which I see is being addressed. Lima Sky, please fix the game over screen so I can replay without having to press three buttons!

This game is a great example of simple and addictive gameplay. But it's not perfect. The lack of a pause button and a "how to play" feature are lamentable. The shooting can be cumbersome and the game lacks some depth. The in-game high score system is marvelous, however. One suggestion for adding some lasting appeal is a new "Time Attack" game mode. Have a set stage (easy, medium, and hard or whatever) and time how fast players can reach the top. Again, great game. Definately a five star when updated.

To tell u the truth I thought the game would be a lot better. It got a good review but I didn't find any thrill or fun in it. The game is basically you playing as a doodle guy just jumping on platforms to beat your high score. I have it and Ive only played it two or three times. I was dissapointed in it.

I heart doodle jump! Great simple design and game concept yet gets more exciting and intense as you advance. Good replay value as it's different each time, depending on where you jump from/to. I won't mention what it needs since it's already coming in the update, but I would suggest to have the black holes, UFO, etc come earlier as it gets slightly boring in between 7,000 and 13,000. A few more different obstacles would keep it fun, too. Like perhaps a MAD SVEN SCIENTIST!!!! I'm still addicted, though!

I would give the game four stars but it doesn't let me view my own scores or have basic things like a help page explaining the point of the game.
There's a moment after you fall off where it shows you your current score and your highest score, but it flashes so fast it's impossible to read and it's really annoying that there's no other way to get back to that screen.
I wonder if it even saves my position when I reach certain levels so I don't always have to start over, or a way to earn lives? No pause option also makes it hard to play for a long stretch at a time.
The game has potential but just doesn't feel finished.

You can pause, I figured out how. Press the top button on ur phone while in a safe trajectory on a jump. Whenver ur ready to play again , position phone and hit home button. Be advised as soon as you hit home he will start again. Enjoy!

This game has touched me like I never would have thought or imagined. As my bug jumps higher and higher, I get a euphoric sensation of flight and sometimes get the sensation that I am hundreds of feet in the air and vertigo sets in. I jump out for a platform and I miss, sending my stomach into my throat as my bug plunges to its demise! The smooth action of the hopping doodlebug makes for many hours of tense and exciting gameplay that just doesnt end. Thank you!

my friend told me to dl doodle and I was iffy at first. I saw the graffics and it didn't seem like a big "wow" to me however once she let my friend and I test play it on her phone we suddenly fell into the trap of addiction. the game doesn't need a lot of awesome graffics to keep a player interested, however it does require patience and attention. I love how you are able to see how far you and other players reach to the top after each round. most importantly it creates a challege when you must shoot and move your doodle. I truly recommend this because it's a fun quick game that kills time!

I've played Papijump for months, and while this game is very similar and I'm still a loyal Papijumper, there's something very well-done about Doodle Jump. This get needs a pause button!! And aslo some sort of indicator that tells you when you are approaching a monster and gets smaller as you get nearer. Also after a game, the screen show my score for just a fraction of a second before going to high scores. After a game, you should be able to see the score you got this time and your high score. There also should be three options: play again, submit to high scores, and to back to main menu. Over all this is a good game except for the score "glitch" and the "out of nowhere" apperance of monsters. I recomsnt this game; I mean what else are you gonna do with a buck? :-)

A lot of people have given great reviews and given 5 stars and there are a few people giving less stars. I hope I can help clear any confusion someone might have about this little game with a simple review; I personally find this a GREAT game and it has a huge replay factor! I have found myself wanting a pause button like others, but the game wouldn't be as fun if it had a pause. The whole point of the game is that you're scared of falling the higher you go, because you'll have to start from the bottom again. If you could pause the game it wouldn't be as intense and it would allow you to take breaks which in turn would allow you to get a ridiculously high score. And for the users who want iPod music. Just lock your device at the game menu, double tap the home button, press play and voilà, your music starts playing and you can go back to the game!
This game is so simple there's no settings or a help menu. It's just fun, addicting, and did I mention the huge replay value? It's worth a buck!

This game is a TON of fun. However, there are a few things I wish were different. For instance, it would be excellent if you could access a scoreboard for just your device, rather than only seeing the top one hundred worldwide best scores. Not everyone can get a minimum score of 60k, and it would be nice to chart improvement and compare with friends.
It would also be nice if there was a way to battle your friends with a "who can keep from falling the longest" mode.
It would also be nice to have different difficulty settings. So, perhaps, there could be an easy setting where there is some sort of warning before a monster is about to come on screen, and a hard setting where the doodle dude jumps at a really fast rate.
Even with the large potential for improvement, this game really is fantastically entertainig, and well worth the dollar price they're asking for it.

I love this game, and I can see some peoples views on Howe it is stupid, but it is still good. There is only one problem in the game, sometimes when you down of the screen, you go through one of the ledges, and it doesn't bounce you back up.

This game is really fun, and I enjoy playing it, but it has some stupid glitches and missing options that it needs to have. First off they said they updated it to fix the play again or submit score choices, it automatically goes to submit score....that bug needs to be fixed. Second a pause button needs to be added so that during the game you can pause what you're doing, other then that this game is wonderful. =] thanks

I like the game but there are a few bad things about it.
1. The character jumps so far so fast that you can hit the bad guys before you even see them. It's purely luck if you make it past them.
2. The character sits too high on the screen, that exacerbates prob #1.
3. No way to complete stages and save your progress...you start over every time. Then it starts to feel like work.

I was searching around the app store and saw the icon for this game and was first drawn to this game since it was hand drawn looking. Seeing that it only had about 8 reviews at the time I was a little hesitant to trust them but I figures I would give it a shot.
This game is now my favorite game I have run into on the app store. It has nor replaced geodefence, idracula, and fieldrunners. For 99 cents this game is well worth it. GET THIS APP!

This game is really fun, if you go really high, it gets harder and harder. If you REALLY, note that, REALLY hate games like PapiJump, then you will not like this. Here are some tips:
1. Don't randomly fire your canon thing, it seems to raise your chance for enemys.
2. Springs aren't always good. You can end up in bad spots or you can hit an enemy.
3. If a block is a millimeter below the screen, it's jumpable.
4. If you go to the left side of the screen, you end up at the right.

It's like PapiJump but less interesting. The one cool feature (the lines on the right side showing where others have made it) only works when it feels like it. And what's the point of the breakaway blocks? It's a gimmick that adds nothing.
PapiJump's got way more modes, handles better, and has way more replay value. I know I sound like a Papi developer, but I'm just trying to lead the money to a superior product.

Having reached my high score of 43,000 in papijump, I found it becoming tedious. Most games are easy for me to pick up and excel in, but this game has me frustrated. Now I'm dodging platforms that break, move, and looking for ones with springs on them. There's also monsters and black holes to be wary of, and I must be careful not to use a spring and jump into one now. You can shoot the monsters, but this game is more challenging than papijump and in my opinion, though I love that red ball in papijump, Doodlejump is a better game. There's not even anything that I'd suggest adding. My high score is 16,000. :( :)

The updated 'top 50 recent scores' is a disappointment. I don't care to see a bunch of low scores that don't factor into obtaining a higher score, and the extra lines are a distraction. If I am going to enter my name constantly, I want it to be for a HIGH score, not a RECENT score.

Doodle Jump is one of those games that I find myself playing for a minute, when I've only got a minute to play, or for an hour or two when time permits. this one just clicks with me. out of all the games which I've purchased, only a few others (trism, blocked and geoDefense) have me constantly coming back for more. papi jump never did that for me.
