Typically, Monday is the day that people have to say goodbye to their weekend of relaxation and fun and get back to the ol' grindstone. I imagine this is doubly hard for people who work with actual grindstones, like medieval blacksmiths and whatnot. But for your average nine to fiver, Mondays pretty much suck. So I figure, what better way to get through the longest day of the week than with a slew of free games to occupy your attention instead of actual work? There are quite a few awesome games that have dropped to free over the weekend and into today, so here's a short list compiling them. As with any App Store sale, it's usually best to jump on these as soon as possible if you're interested, as the pricing can change in the bat of an eye if you aren't careful. King Cashing: Slots Adventure, $1.99 - [Review]

It's Wednesday morning and time to do the same old song and dance we do every week around here: Go digging through the New Zealand App Store to see what kind of treasures await at 11:00 PM EST when those same games are released on the US App Store. This week comes with a particularly awesome haul, both expected and unexpected. If you're new to this whole deal, as mentioned previously, all of these games should show up for download in the good ol' US of A later tonight. If you're reading TouchArcade from somewhere other than North America, these games should all automagically appear on the App Store in your neck of the woods around midnight local time. Usually these same links will work as well to find the game in your region. - Originally sold in Japan for the Famicom in 1990, the game didn't hit American soil until

Feb 4th 2011 at 8:00AM DizzyPad is the best! Great Music and Graphics, and free! Fun little game. The controls are a little frustrating as multitouch is not supported and quickly tapping with both thumbs (gameboy style) often leads to not registered taps. Very annoying on a multitouch enabled device, especially in later levels when you need to quickly change boosts. I am glad I didn't pay money for this. T. Free games make me happy on the inside, and I imagine they do the same for you. So, it’s with pleasure that I get to announce this: Pocket Frog developer Nimble Bit’s entire App Store catalogue is now available for the price of zero dollars. That’s right, from now until an “indeterminate time," you can download every iOS game that Nimble Bit has to offer for free. We’re talking about over a dozen titles here, so I’ll be general with the following: our readers and ourselves pretty much have a universal love for everything Nimble Bit has to offer, so yeah, you should probably get on these ridiculous deals. I should note that, yeah, most of these games are free or have gone free before, but we’ve yet to see price-slashing on this scale from the studio. That said, here’s the list: App Store Links: Mega Panda, Free (Universal) Pocket Frogs, Free

Last week we took a look at an upcoming game from The Iconfactory called Astronut [Free], a new “spinning disc jumping game” similar to Dizzypad [$1.99/HD] or Jump O'Clock [99¢] but with an element of gravity that affects the gameplay. Just a couple of days ago Astronut went live in the App Store, and so far I've been having a great time playing through the game. Even though this sort of game has been done before, Astronut does it with some interesting new twists and a lot of personality, and stands out as a unique take on the formula. In Astronut you'll play as Jacques the astronaut as he explores 24 different levels, or systems, that are filled with various spinning planets. A button in the lower corner enables Jacques to leap from planet to planet. Every planet has its own force of gravity, and you can use this to actually slingshot

We've been following the development of NimbleBit's Pocket Frogs [Free] for quite some time now; the thread in our upcoming games forum has even grown to over 800 posts. Beta testers loved the game and the excitement surrounding a freemium game that was designed from the ground up to provide a great gameplay experience without making gamers feel nickel and dimed seemed contagious. Having spent a considerable amount of time with pre-release builds of the game and the final pre-release copy of the game, and Pocket Frogs really is something that everyone should try-- even if you've shied away from freemium games in the past. In Pocket Frogs, as the title may suggest, you are responsible for breeding, growing, and maintaining a habitat (or eventually, multiple habitats) of cute little frogs. The process goes a little something like this: Tapping a frog brings up a menu, initially you have the option

Since I got my new iPhone 4 a few weeks back, I've been playing more games than ever on Apple's little handheld. I just recently got back into Ngmoco's We Rule. It's probably the pinnacle of the "freemium" genre on the iPhone so far. It's free to play, very social, and very much based on timed "check-ins," where you set crops to grow and then come back in a few hours to harvest them. It puts in little blips of gameplay that move you towards a larger progress goal. The only problem is that We Rule isn't all that fun; it's a bunch of clicking and grinding. So, lately I've been wondering when someone would add a fun freemium game to the App Store. It would have to be something that was social and progressive and all that that entails, but it would also need to have a game component that

Proud to be indie developer NimbleBit leaked some vague details to us this afternoon regarding their next iPhone game, Pocket Frogs. The story of Pocket Frogs starts back with their previous game, Dizzypad [iPhone: $1.99 / iPad: Free + DLC], a simple jumping game that we loved in our review which recently received an update adding in iOS 4 fast app switching and Retina Display support for the iPhone 4. Figuring they'd make the various Plus+ awards a little more fun than just increasing your overall Plus+ gamer score, NimbleBit linked these awards with unlocking differently colored playable frogs. The unexpected side effect of this for NimbleBit was it turned out that for many players, the goal of playing Dizzypad for them was to unlock every frog rather than shooting for high scores as originally intended. NimbleBit released several updates to the game which added even more frogs, so when searching

Precio: 1,59 €

NimbleBit is holding another Freebie Friday on April 23rd, this time the free game being offered is their newest release, Dizzypad for the iPhone. It's already gone free for those of you who want to jump on it early. We gave Dizzypad 4 stars back in February for being a fun casual game. The goal is to simply get as far as you can while jumping from lily pad to lily pad. Each lily pad is spinning in place, and a well timed tap on the screen will launch you forward. The trick is to wait until you are facing the right direction and off you go. Sounds simple, eh? In addition to making their iPhone version of Dizzypad free for the day, Nimblebit has announced that Dizzypad is coming to the iPad as well. The iPad version of Dizzypad will be freemium, where you will get the classic game mode,

Apr 23rd 2010 at 8:00AM Not free anymore... $ 1.99 Presumably under Apple's novel interpretation of the trademark infringement rules they won't be able to call the iPad version Dizzypad - they will have to call it something else? Near as I can tell, this feature should be called "TUAW's Daily GAME". NimbleBit’s highly addictive lily pad leaping game for the iPhone and iPod touch, Dizzypad, will be making its way to the iPad in HD form relatively soon, as the game has already been submitted to Apple for review. Dizzypad HD will feature the same classic gameplay as the original, just in high resolution form, along with 30 unlockable frogs (up from the 18 that the iPhone version contains) and Plus+ integration. All of this will be available free of charge as opposed to the iPhone version’s $1.99 price tag. But that’s actually only the beginning. NimbleBit will be offering three new game modes for Dizzypad HD, each available for $1.99 as in-app purchases. Game modes include: For those of you who just can’t wait to see Dizzypad HD in action, NimbleBit has thrown together a gameplay video, which includes a demo of all four game modes. But that’s STILL not all.

The best way to describe Captain Ludwig is with reference to Dizzypad, a title released in February which we really enjoyed. Captain Ludwig is a super-hero of sorts that with little fanfare, finds himself each level spinning around a planet, tasked with flying from planet to planet bringing luminescence to the greyed out rocks of space. Similar to Dizzypad, the trick to Captain Ludwig is to time your one finger tap just right to direct Ludwig to the next planet. If you overshoot your mark or mis-time your flight, your hero will find himself lost in the ethers of space and minus a life. In many ways, Captain Ludwig is an improvement over Dizzypad, with a number of traps and pitfalls introduced to make your solitary task that little bit harder. Noxious planets can only be rested on for a short while, while turrets and spikes and a number of other

Dizzypad is one of those “simple to learn but difficult to master†type games. The objective of the game is to achieve the highest score possible by leaping your frog from pad to pad. To make things more difficult, each pad is constantly spinning; so you really have to time it right in order to avoid falling into the pond. There are no difficulty levels in this game. Each time you begin a new game, it starts out very easy. The lily pads are large in size, close together and spinning very slowly. As you progress through the game, the pads become smaller and spin increasingly faster. The faster the pad spins, the more difficult it becomes to leap in the right direction. The smaller the pads, the less room for error. A leap is executed by simply tapping anywhere on the screen. There is a small arrow on your pad

**WIN A COPY FOR FREE! See After Jump** During the previews for this game, Nimblebit promised this will be the missing link between and Doodle Jump, did they deliver? Why ABSOLUTELY YES?! Let me tone down my excitement for this game a bit to deliver a cohesive review for you guys. Dizzypad LOOKS easy but it’s challenging in itself and challenging to put down, it’s that addicting! Presentation The pond, water ripples, and the amphibian animations SCREAM on my iPhone 3GS. They look so beautiful and should really remind you of Koi Pond. The sounds are somewhat country but suits the game perfectly fine. Watch out for the dragonflies, used tires (SAVE THE PLANET) and a 5C00p5 license plate number underwater. Controls If you’re new to Nimblebit games, they employ some of the most basic controls you can find for iPhone games. This time, they’re using one tap. Tap when you

Steve Jobs celebrates his 55th birthday today! As we reported yesterday, Apple has pulled over 5000 “overtly sexual” apps from the App Store, but now it looks like some of them could be making a comeback. The lastest beta of the iPad SDK was released yesterday, and while some of you might not think this is big news, the guys over at macrumors dug around and found something that everyone will be interested in. New segment: Wacky Apps – apps that are kind of off the wall and just plain wacky! Today’s Wacky App is Fly-Flap. Check it out in the App Store for just $.99.

We told you it was coming, and now here it is. NimbleBit’s Dizzypad successfully navigated its way into the App Store today. Dizzypad, as described by NimbleBit, is a combination of Koi Pond and Doodle Jump, which should mean it is as soothing as sitting by a pond and as addictive as endlessly jumping on platforms. Dizzypad has you guiding a dizzy frog from one spinning pad to the next in an attempt to see just how far you can go. The gameplay consists of simply tapping anywhere on the screen in order to make your frog jump, but you must time your tap well so you don’t fall into the pond. The flowers on the right-hand side of the screen indicate how many lives you have which can be gained by being daring and skipping pads. The bar on the left-hand side shows you your current high score progress. The game

Great fun

Great little time waster. Beautiful to look at, and plenty going on to distract you while you're trying to time that dangerous jump. If only you could catch those blasted dragonflies, this would be a perfect game.
Fun little game!

If you're looking for a lively, yet casual, pick up and play game, this is it! Those little frogs have been very entertaining for the game players in our house. Graphics and attention to detail are top quality, and the leaderboards are an added bonus!
