Read More

Camera+ 3.0 now available, integrated into other apps via API
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Tue, 13 Mar 2012 21:45:00 UTC +00:00
The popular Camera+ app (US$0.99) has just received an update to version 3.0 that adds new functionality as well as an API that has already been used by a number of top name developers to add the Camera+ functionality to a variety of apps. When I say that Camera+ is popular, I'm not exaggerating -- the app is the 10th best-selling iPhone app of all time, and the 7 millionth copy of Camera+ was recently sold. Not only does the app have a beautiful new icon (see above), but it has added features that will expand the popularity of this iPhoneography app: As noted, Camera+ developer Tap Tap Tap has also made an API available for adding the amazing camera and "darkroom" functionality of Camera+ to other apps. So far, the WordPress, Tweetbot, Twitterrific and Foodspotting apps have added the capabilities. If you're a developer who would like to add Camera+ Read More

Better yet, Camera+ 3 is now available from the App Store and includes several new features… New in version 3 is a revamped app icon, improved sharing, multiple photo library importing, workflows, focus and exposure locks, brand new APIs, an improved Lightbox design with a status bar, the ability to create web links, tuned clarity, a VolumeSnap setting in the menu, opt-in only notifications, and other performance enhancements and bug fixes.

College Introduces Course On iPhoneography
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhone Download Blog - Posted Mon, 06 Feb 2012 14:30:09 UTC +00:00
iPhone photography, dubbed ‘iPhoneography‘, seems to be the new hip thing among iPhone users. It’s much easier to carry your iPhone around to take photos than an expensive DSLR, and with popular apps like Camera+, Instagram, and Camera Bag, you can take equally stunning shots. Interestingly, a UK college wants to teach its students this new method… BBC reports that London’s Kensington and Chelsea College is launching a new course to teach students about iPhoneography. The college thinks many iPhone users don’t know how to use their iPhone to take photographs properly. The course, led by Richard Gray, requires each student to have an iPhone. Mr. Gray will teach students about the basics of photography like color, light, and composition, but will also teach them to use iOS apps to make collages and more. Along with this upcoming class at Kensington and Chelsea College, Mr. Gray hosts a workshop at local London Read More

Camera+ ($1.99) by tap tap tap Available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad I’ll keep this short: Camera+ is probably the best all-around camera app you’re gonna find in the App Store. I’m sure this is old news to a lot of you, but if you’ve never used it you should definitely give it a look. I used to have apps like ToyCamera, Lomo Camera, and numerous others on my iPhone but Camera+ has replaced them all! Those other apps are great for certain things, but this one is basically the Swiss Army Knife of camera apps. All the retro filters and other functions like flash, crop, flip, and borders are awesome, but honestly the thing I like best is that Camera+ doesn’t automatically add every crappy pic I take to that stupid Photostream. Christmas 2011 Showed Significant Sales Boost for iOS Developers
Mini_discussion_bubble MacRumors: Mac News and Rumors - Front Page - Posted Thu, 29 Dec 2011 15:28:30 UTC +00:00
Each year, iOS developers scramble to position themselves well ahead of the iTunes Connect shutdown/freeze in order to benefit from any boost in sales from the holidays. NYTimes wrote of the phenomenon this year, as explained by iOS developer Bryan Duke: “It’s typical to see a jump on any major holiday, but Christmas is the biggest one,” Mr. Duke said. “I’m certainly hoping for a nice big Christmas bump this year.” This boost is what drives many of the massive holiday sales as developers jockey for position before the iTunes Top 200 charts freeze for the holidays. Major companies such as Gameloft and EA get in on the action to flood the charts with their apps. Camera+ developers TapTapTap shared their iOS app sales numbers with us again this year which shows the effect in dramatic fashion: The increase in sales is reflective of more iOS device activations and the gifting Read More

We’ll tell you what we think is the best gear out there, for a variety of product categories and budgets.
Read More

The app has a massive array of additional settings not present in the default app, including a grid for aligning shots, dozens of effects and borders, an image stabilizer, and a continuous flash option. Camera+ updated, VolumeSnap returns at last
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Wed, 16 Nov 2011 23:00:00 UTC +00:00
In August of 2010, tap tap tap's Camera+ got pulled from the App Store because it implemented a feature which violated Apple's Developer Agreement at the time. VolumeSnap allowed Camera+ users to use the "+" volume button on the iPhone as a physical shutter switch for taking photos with the iPhone. After a four-month hiatus, Camera+ came back to the App Store with a redesigned and improved interface, but VolumeSnap was nowhere to be found. Things certainly changed over the next few months; Apple "Sherlocked" the VolumeSnap feature for iOS 5's own Camera app. It worked exactly the same way as it did in Camera+, and I imagine tap tap tap must have been a bit peeved at Apple for a while. Camera+ has now been updated with the VolumeSnap feature returned in all its glory, and as you can tell from the release notes, tap tap tap is pretty excited Read More

This filter, designed as a response to the HDR feature introduced by Apple in iOS 4, is designed to draw out colors and details from photos that may have otherwise been lost, through multiple behind the scenes adjustments. TapTapTap’s site goes into how it works and provides some examples it can improve photos, but how does it work in the real world? I decided to test out the new Clarity Read More

July 4th Blowout: Sales from EA, Namco, Glu, Gameloft & More
Mini_discussion_bubble 148 Apps - Posted Fri, 02 Jul 2010 14:33:50 UTC +00:00
Holidays on the App Store mean big savings for customers. Developers including Glu, Gameloft, and Namco are putting oodles of apps on sale, with many as low as $0.99. Grab 'em while you can! We Americans celebrate July 4th as Independence Day. Usually it involves fireworks, glow-sticks, barbecues, and patriotic parades. But quite a few developers have decided to celebrate in yet another way—by putting their apps on sale. Yay, cheap apps! Yay, developers selling lots of apps! Yay, fireworks! So far we’ve got sales from EA Games, Glu, Gameloft, and Namco, as well as a few bonus apps. Hit the break for a full listing of on-sale apps and games. Namco Namco is the developer behind lots of games, not just the Pac-man titles, and they’d like us all to remember that with this crazy sale. Many games are $0.99; others are still significantly cheaper than their already-low App Store Read More

No worth getting it

Doesn't enhance the lens quality at all. Just a mini photoshop app to enhance an image after it was taken.Very disappointed.
Cool app

Focus function does not work with iPod Touch.
Gypsy 6 1.0 stars
iPod Touch peeps should be aware that the camera lens on iPod Touch is fixed-focus and cannot take advantage of the focus function in this app. Cute app, but one star for not mentioning this isolated difference between the hardware on iPod Touch and iPhone.
Good but

If it had a video cam feature (similar to stock) I'd be a great replacement unfortunately it doesn't. Also, the editing portion is just blah.
:(

There are so many good reviews for this being in the top 5 and all, and it took me a long time to decide to get it..... Only to be disappointed. Many other photo apps offer more creative and quality results than this, and for FREE. Examples: Pixlromatic, qbro, Instagram!
VolumeSnap!

Thank you

Great app!
ehollis 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I love the separate exposure and focus functionality. It's one of those "doh" features that you never think of but makes total sense when available to you. As far as the teased volume button as the shutter, the reason it is not in the app is because Apple doesn't allow remapping of the volume keys. Leave apple feedback if you would like to see this feature in the future. Until Apple agrees to it, it can't happen. I would love to see video brought into this app, now that would be amazing!
The best camera app period!
RedDawg642 5.0 stars Version: 2.1
A really great camera app with editing features such as adjusting picture brightness (digital flash, auto, backlit and darkening), rotating your picture, cropping, picture effects, borders and setting focus and white balance using two fingers. The best thing is the user interface is very intuitive, making it easy for nobbs like me to take quality pictures using the advanced features of Camera+. Works very well on the iPhone 3GS.
Best overall Camera App
Porktree 5.0 stars Version: 2.1
I have about 50 different camera and effects apps, and this is the one app I use over and over again. Its fast, easy to use, let's you make some quick cosmetic changes and create some distinctive pics.
HDR and "Big Button"
joaohess 5.0 stars Version: 2.2
Really great app, but please add a "real" (not a filter) HDR function for iPhone 4 (this is the only reason I still use the built-in camera), and a "Whole-screen" shutter (to take self-portrait pictures with the back camera)... It would be great! Awesome app!
MOAR Stars
sclyde 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.1
I had previously rated this app 2 stars because it essentially wasn't working. I failed to remember that I was running a beta version of the OS; the problem was more my fault than the developer. They never contacted me in my various attempts to beg them for help - however, they were fairly prompt to release 1.2.1 with the fix. All that aside, the app is absolutely awesome. It quickly and easily replaced Camera.app for me as my main picture taking app. I would recommend it to anyone that takes a lot of pictures with their iPhone.
Good for quick shots
TheCombatDoc 3.0 stars Version: 2.0
Its been great for quick and burst shots. I like having some decent effects in the lot, but i hate the "reel ya in tactics" of in app purchases. Get a great app for 0.99 and then have to spend more $$ to get any use out of it. All in all though it seems to be a great quick snapshot app with some facy filters to make your pics look different. A few issues I encountered: 1) Any photo (even from camera roll) that has the flash used (even the flashlight mode) seems to hang the lightbox and cause a spinning wait wheel. Delete that photo from lightbox, issue resolves until new flash pic is loaded. 2) I dunno if its the app or the iphone camera, but zoomed in photos are fuzzy as heck, even after applying the focus tap. I'll have to play with that more. 3) HDR IS NOT A FILTER! Its a mode of shooting and Camera+ doesn't have that mode even though its built into the default camera app. Hope it is coming.
I feel fleeced.
qoo77 1.0 stars Version: 2.1
expecting me pay more for filters after purchasing the app, WTF.
Bamboozled
thejac 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I'm not happy with this app so far the filters and effects are horrible. There is no control with the out put of final image. The borders in this app are lifeless. I use hipstamatic a lot and I never feel like I'm not in control of my image, and that's a feature of that app. This app talks about total control and I feel like I have very little if any. This isn't the worst app ever but there are free apps that do everything this app does. (gorillacam, Mill Colour, and more) do not download this app untill, it gets updated. Things it needs to be the best camera out there more control in filters, effects, color. Needed to add rotation, noise reduction, white balance, tilt shift controls, sliders sliders sliders. For an app that claims to do it all it doesn't do anyone thing good enough to claim it's the best or the ultimate camera app on the planet! In conclusion - fail. Don't be bamboozled.
Nice update but some bugs
AlexSof14 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
When you rotate the phone horizontally the button for flipping the camera and flash overlap and there are two of each. - After quitting the app this didn't happen again. Also please add a setting where when you open the app you can go right to the camera screen instead of having to select it. Thanks
Some nice features, but...
lrreynolds 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
I have been using this app for about two weeks with my iPhone 4 and thought it was pretty nice until I imported the photos onto my computer and noticed several issues. First the IMAGE PREVIEWS were UNAVAILABLE whether I was importing to Lightroom or iPhoto. No big deal since once imported the photos seemed to be fine but then I noticed that the DATE/TIME stamps were also WRONG. They were all showing the time/date that a photo was saved out of the Lightbox to the camera roll and not the actual date/time that the photo was shot. Since I had just kept shooting and then saved all the photos out after I returned from my trip they all had a single date, ugh! Then I got the WORST SURPRISE when after importing to iPhoto the LOCATION DATA was NON-EXISTANT! I had specifically been taking shots on a recent trip to the Olympic Peninsula with my iPhone along with my D700 so that I could capture the exact location for each shot and now I had no location data period! Bummer! I've reported the bug but in the meantime BEWARE SHOOTING WITH THIS APP IF ACCURATE TIME AND LOCATION DATA IS IMPORTANT TO YOU!
We have to pay for new effects?
Oscarin 3.0 stars Version: 2.0
I'm glad it's back, however there are other apps that offer plenty of effects for FREE. So why pay for them?
Taptaptap is just terrible
Leonphoto 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is pretty much a Camera Plus Pro ripoff with some aesthetic brush ups. It's half decent but taptaptap is a poor company with poor business ethics that straight up lie to potential customers by always having "introductory" pricing on their apps to lure in early adopter suckers like myself then turn around and drop the price more after just saying the price would go up. No good.
Leo said it was good but...
Calvin Knight 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Listening to Leo Laporte on MacBreak Weekly, one of the contributors created this app. I am used to using Camera Genius and then editing it in Photogene. I gave Camera+ a good comparison test and found it coming up short. Yes, previously I was using two apps and now I just used just Camera+. Camera+ was found lacking in three ways: the image stabilization was inferior to Camera Genius. Close examination of shots using both apps found Camera Genius consistently gave better (sharper) results (without zooming in). Camera+ has a zooming in feature, but that's simply a digital zoom which is the same as cropping more tightly. Second, Photogene has a sharpness tool and much more control over editing with a histogram, contrast, warmth, etc. while Camera+ offered some "presets" that didn't provide any specific control. Lastly, Camera Genius saves the photos straight to Camera Roll and with Camera+ it saves it to it's own app and then you have to go into the edit feature to save it into Camera Roll. I felt saving them directly into Camera Roll with Camera Genius made sense because when I'm taking pictures, I don't want to later go back and sort through those in one specific app and find those which I want to save to Camera Roll, I just want them to go there and I can delete them later from Camera Roll. It's an okay app, but really doesn't give nearly as much control in editing as what we were led to believe. It would be a good app for $0.99 but it's certainly not worth the $2.99. I think Leo Laporte and others on Mac Break Weekly should try out their products before they push their friends' creations. I wish I could get a refund.
Don't upgrade to 2.0!!!!
Mentalu 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
I had the original version that allowed you to take a picture by pressing the volume button ( because tapping the screen is DUMB APPLE!!!) and when I upgraded this feature went away. It was the main reason I bought the app in the first place now it's getting deleted. BRING THIS FEATURE BACK!!
Wow! 2.2 Clarity!
Sentenial 5.0 stars Version: 2.2
This is awesome, simply the best camera effect I've ever seen on the iPhone. I took a picture of my girlfriend at a concert that was way too dark, no flash, and it turned it to make it look like day time. Could see everything. Amazing job Tap Tap Tap! Highly recommended app! Best there is. Just wish you could do apple's HDR.. And maybe simple video recording.

and the GPS data?
Parel 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great photos, great interface, but why doesn't keep the GPS data? I want to use it with aperture, but, when you open aperture and use the "Importe GPS from iPhone Photos" nothing apears there :(
Very pleased
Sparxnight 5.0 stars Version: 2.1.1
Don't know what's with the bad reviews, it's never crashed once for me. My guess is if you have a jailbroken device, it won't work. This app features an awesome light focus effect, which I haven't seen in any other camera app. This app has neat Stabilizer, Timer, and Burst modes. Not to mention the effects and crops to edit your pics. The extra effects package is definitely worth the dollar, and I hope to see more in the future. I could not be more happy with this app.
Small Change, BIG difference!
Jalpuna 5.0 stars Version: 2.1
Camera+ is basically two apps in one: a camera app and a photo effects "lightbox" app. I'm only reviewing the camera half of the app. With this latest 2.1 update, Camera+ became my go-to iPhone camera because it does two things, and it does them remarkably well. #1: Camera+ has a brilliant design for Tap To Focus and Tap For Exposure. Touch the screen with one finger to choose a Focus/Exposure point. Touch the screen with two fingers if you want to choose separate focus and exposure points. Simple. Brilliantly designed. And it works remarkably well. #2: Camera+ stays the heck out of my way when I'm shooting. The camera half of the app has lots of features such as anti-shake, a timer and burst mode, but they're neatly tucked away rather than cluttering the screen or shooting-button bar. The better you are with a camera, the more you'll appreciate the simple interface of Camera+. Like I said, it can do a lot, but it stays out of your way. Here's the small change in version 2.1 that made this my go-to app: AutoSave To Camera Roll! If I take a photo, I want it saved in the camera roll where it belongs. Camera+ finally added an option for this. I'm very glad they did.
all in one, but horrible, cluttered ui
scottjl 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
the developers try to take the app one step further than most camera apps by including filters found in separate programs. kudos for that. along with the usual features like timers, zooms and aiming grids to help you take decent shots. but the goofy UI pretty much ruins it for me. the app is slow to start up and requires a tap after starting just to be able to shoot pics. the "back of camera" (why? this isn't a 35mm camera, stop pretending it is, it's a phone!) interface looks pretty but who wants to navigate around a small box of menu choices with the 80% of the screen wasted space? this app also does not save photos taken directly to the photo gallery but saves them in a "lightbox" forcing you to go through yet more steps to export them. the tap zones are very small and the whole thing is slow, slow, slow. taking and saving photo is very slow on my 4G, especially compared to the built-in camera app. easier to take multiple shots with the built in app and edit them in here, or one of the many other editing programs that run faster. there are plenty of special effects, built in editing, and it will import and export photos from the library so you can edit them, at full resolution. if you already own a camera app, and a photo editing app, you can safely skip this one. if you don't have apps that you like, or are looking for an all-in-one icon, you might try this app out. the goofy UI is a bit of a turnoff though, for me. needs a complete redesign in my opinion. 2 stars, being generous.
Be Careful

You still have to buy more things inside the program like filters and stuff. Be warned. This is not explained in the original sales pitch.
Really, I have to buy effects?
mark2series 3.0 stars Version: 2.0
I have to buy the effects that come standard with Instagram? Awesome. Any way to remove that stupid analog section since it's basically a worthless in app ad?
DO NOT UPDATE!!!
Killer Kitty 11 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
The update removes the vol. button camera actuator. They fail to mention that in their NEW UPDATE!!!! GARBAGE!!!
Good, But Is It Worth Your Money?
Jalpuna 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
I want to love this app, but I end up not using it at all because it's annoying, and that's money wasted. If you're looking for a camera app, ProCamera is much better. If you're looking for a photo editing app, FX Photo Studio is much better (and with its Favorites and Presets, it's going to keep getting better and better). Camera+ is basically two apps in one. It's a Camera app and a photo editing app. Even with its flaws, I'd easily rate the camera half of the app 4 or possibly 5 stars IF IT SAVED PHOTOS TO THE CAMERA ROLL WHERE THEY BELONG. It doesn't. So, you're going to have to constantly keep going into the stupid Camera+ lightbox and transferring the pics you took to the camera roll if you want to transfer them to your computer. Talk about a stupid workflow. It's even more stupid when you realize that you can transfer photos from the camera roll to the lightbox if you want to edit photos you took with another app. Why not just save everything in the camera roll the way most other camera apps do? If every camera app saved photos to its own lightbox, shooting with an iphone would get pretty annoying. Consider Hipstamatic, for example. Take a photo: it's saved in your camera roll. Or ProCamera. Take a photo: it's saved in your camera roll. Or the Vint BW app. Or the ToyCamera app. Take a photo and it's saved in the camera roll where it belongs. But, for whatever reason, Camera+ insists on adding an extra step. Photos are saved to a lightbox in the app. To transfer them to your computer, you have to first transfer them to the camera roll where they should have been saved in the first place. Apps are developed this way because some app developers think their app is the most important thing ever made and so it must have its own system for everything instead of doing things the way users already do them. Boo for poor developers. I gave this app 2 stars, but the second star is pure charity. I spent money for an app I don't use. Money wasted should be a 1 star review. EDIT: I changed my review to one star because they're now adding in-app purchases for effects. Previously, more effects were free with app updates. I think they should get the app right before figuring out how to get more of my money via in-app purchases. That being said, there's plenty to like in Camera+. Tap for separate focus and exposure is particularly well implemented. Tap with one finger to pick a focal point for focus and exposure. Easy! Tap with two fingers to choose separate focal and exposure points (or, tap and hold one finger for your focal point and then tap a second finger for your exposure point). Do it once and you'll realize how easy and convenient it is. The editing half of this app os OK, but there are so many better options. I don't mean that as an insult to Camera+. It's just that this app is trying to be two apps at once and it doesn't excel at either. Honestly, the bottom line is this: if you want to take great photos with your iPhone, you're better off buying a better camera app. ProCamera, for example (but there are others). If you want to edit photos on your iPhone, you're better off buying a better editing app. Or downloading one of the free ones. If I used Camera+, I'd rate it higher, but the annoyances that come even with V2 of this app bug me to the point where I end up using other apps instead. And that's money wasted.
