By Rob LeFebvre on December 29th, 2011 As 2011 winds on down, we take a look back at some of the finest apps released this past year. Pocket Informant – While iCal is nice, sometimes we need a more robust solution – hopefully one that works seamlessly with Google calendar. This is that app. While there’s no universal app yet, we find this one to be compelling enough on either device type. $7.99 $12.99 Released: 2009-03-27 :: Category: Productivity $9.99 $14.99 Released: 2010-07-22 :: Category: Productivity American Presidents for iPad – With over 300 gorgeous vintage images and photographs, this is an educational app for everyone. If you just got a new iPhone for Christmas, there's one handy utility app that you might want to purchase right away. It's 1Password for iPhone (sale priced at US$5.99) from Agile Bits Solutions, and it was named the best iPhone utility app in reader voting in TUAW's Best of 2011 awards. The app is a favorite of the TUAW staff, and it's obvious from the voting that 1Password is used faithfully by many of our readers as well -- the app pulled in 49.7 percent of the votes, thoroughly trouncing the other nominees in this category. It actually comes in two flavors -- the iPhone-only version linked to above, and the universal 1Password Pro (currently on sale for $8.99) that synchronizes with 1Password on Mac and iPad. Apple had the runner-up in this category. Find My iPhone (free), an amazing app that has reunited many lost or stolen iPhones with

The nominations are in, and the poll is ready to go! The TUAW Best of 2011 awards are all about you -- the readers -- and what you think is the cream of the crop of Apple or third-party products and software. To vote, select one entry from the top nominations made by readers. We'll be announcing the winner in just a few days. Vote early and often! TUAW is asking for your votes for the best iPhone utility app of 2011. Since a majority of nominations were from the wrong categories, and some were even for the wrong platform, a straw poll of favorite iPhone utilities was taken with a sampling of Web luminaries and makes up our list of candidates. The nominees are Flashlight (sale priced at US$0.99, regularly $1.99), Apple's Airport Utility (free), Skyfire Web Browser ($2.99), 1Password for iPhone ($5.99), and the app that has saved a

By Allyson Kazmucha, Thursday, May 26, 2011 | Passwords are an important part of having an online presence. I always tell friends and family that you should never ever have the same password for all of your accounts. (Do they listen? Probably not.) Either way, having the same password means if someone gets hold of one of your accounts, they could potentially have access to all of them. Having separate passwords is the best idea but then comes keeping track of all of them. Apps like 1Password and DataVault set out to solve that problem. I took a look at both of these popular password management apps and pitted them against each other. Follow along to see which one came out on top! When it comes to password management, I want to have easy access to my passwords regardless where I’m at. Both of these apps seem to provide that. Both

In light of recent events regarding the security of online password managers, it’s worth a look at some of the alternatives out there, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. I’ve been using password managers on devices I carry around with me for almost 10 years now. When the first iPhone came out, I remember wanting one, but the reason I did not get one was because there were no third-party apps. I was a long-time Palm owner and had a Treo 650 running SplashID. I have well over three hundred accounts, combinations, locks, and little secret bits of information to manage. So I was excited when I saw that Apple was going to support third-party apps. SplashID couldn’t keep up with the times (it was slow to offer sync and multitasking support was not up to par). But what password manager to switch to? I turned to an App Store search technique

By Leanna Lofte, Saturday, Jan 15, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! It has been said that all the great hits can be played using the same 3 chords. There was even a youtube video proving the point. So now you can play all the hits and then some! I found this thread in the forums and gave it a try. I used to play a bit of guitar, so I was interested. You are limited in your choice of chords in this free version, but you

Hello everyone. I’m Alex Jordan, one of the new authors here at iSource. I thought I’d break the ice by telling you the top five iOS apps I can’t live without. So, let’s jump right in. Instagram is a unique social network, that as far as I can tell, stems solely from an iOS app. There is no website to go to, no other clients to access the service except for the official Instagram app. What is Instagram? Well, you take pictures, apply filters (or not), and post them, and view other’s photos. Like any other social network, you can comment on other’s posts, or “like” them. Think of it as “Facebook, but only for pictures.” On the surface it seems a little pointless, I’ll admit. However, you really should give it a try. It’s free, and easy to sign up. Surprise, surprise, Pandora Radio made the list. Yeah, Pandora has

Agile Web Solutions first gave us a look at the iPad version of 1Password well over one month ago, and even at that time things were coming together nicely. Now with only a couple of days before the big launch, Agile has revealed more sexy screenshots for 1Password for iPad along with some final pricing details. Let’s just say current 1Password Pro users are sure to be pleased. 1Password for iPad was submitted to Apple before the March 27th deadline for iPad launch apps and the company is hoping it will be available on April 3rd. 1Password for iPad, as a standalone iPad-only app, will be available for $6.99. 1Password for iPad, however, is only intended for those who do not own or plan to own an iPhone or iPod touch because… 1Password Pro will contain both iPad and iPhone versions! That’s right, current 1Password Pro iPhone and iPod touch owners

1Password [App Store, $4.99], the popular password manager and form auto-completion app, has published mockups for a version of the app for the iPad that they’re currently working on. Currently available on the desktop and iPhone/iPod touch, 1Password for the iPad will take the interface even further to make the most of the extra screen real estate. The main toolbar has been redone, with recessed icons to fit the feel of the rest of the iPad’s interface, among other things. Categories: News Tags: bouncer

Indispensable if you have a Facebook account (note: you may want to join our Facebook page). Flight Control – My favorite iPhone game. Ever! It’s fun and addicting. My best score is 357 planes landed. Can you do better? Bejeweled 2 – My fiancée turned me on this game. I used to play it a lot but I got over it. Tap Tap Revenge 3 –

The folks at Agile Web Solutions are thankful for a lot of things, including finally getting 1Password 3 for Mac OS X 10.6 out the doors, but what they are most thankful for are their users, the people that allow them to do what they do. They have decided to give back to you, the users, by making both 1Password and 1Password Pro for the iPhone and iPod touch available for free for a limited time. 1Password is a handy utility app that allows you to safely store important personal information, like login info, passwords, credit cards, and even notes on your iPhone or iPod touch. It features two layers of security, the ability to backup your data and restore from your Mac, PC, or Linux-based computer, and automatic login so you won’t have to remember and type information in by hand. It gets even better if you own the desktop

The feature-rich iPhone bill assistant app, BillMinder, has been updated with the ability to send push notifications. Now you will have no excuse for missing your next bill payment. BillMinder was the first bill tracking app available in the App Store and it just keeps getting better. It is loaded with features that will help you stay on top of your bills, including the ability to calculate bill amounts, categorize your collectors, backup and restore to a file, export to Excel, record paid date and amount, and alerts with icon badging. With v1.6, the features just keep on coming. BillMinder v1.6 adds a brand new calendar view, updated history view, auto-pay can now optionally mark your bills as paid on their due date, bug fixes, and of course push notifications. With BillMinder, push notifications are entirely optional since the developer is charging an annual fee of $.99 using the in-app purchase

At first glance it would seem as if Agile Web Solutions was trying to pull a fast one on some of its most loyal customers by introducing an entirely separate version of its popular iPhone app, 1Password, called 1Password Pro. 1Password Pro only adds a few extra iPhone OS 3.0 features that many have felt should have been included in the original version of the app for free. Since that doesn’t exactly seem like something an established software developer would do, I decided to contact Agile Web Solutions to see what was really going on. The difference between 1Password and 1Password Pro isn’t very apparent, at least right now. 1Password costs $4.99 and features all of the great password and content storing features you have come to expect from Agile Web Solutions’ rock solid software. 1Password Pro costs $5.99 and contains exactly the same features as the regular version with the only additions

If you haven’t ever heard of 1Password, it is a very handy utility that allows you to safely store important personal information like login information, passwords, credit cards, and basically any other type of information that you need to have readily available. The application has been around for months, but it recently has been updated to version 2.0 which means that it won’t be free for much longer. Having all of this important information on your iPhone or iPod touch wouldn’t be safe without some sort of security system in place. 1Password has you covered with not one, but two layers of security. The application asks you to set a four digit numerical password along with an optional secondary password just in case you lose your device. 1Password also features a built in browser, so all of that login information you have stored doesn’t need to be re-entered when you access

Agile Web Solutions, developer of the 1Password secure password manager for Mac, has announced the release of 1Password touch 2.0 for iPhone and iPod touch. The app, which is available through Friday, June 5th as a free download, is much improved over the previous versions and includes new functionality as well. I downloaded and installed 1Password touch 2.0 [App Store] yesterday and was pleased to see that some previous issues have been resolved. The app now launches much faster, and the user interface has been improved for adding logins, passwords, and notes. One of the biggest improvements is in how 1Password touch handles wallet items. These are things like driver's licenses, bank account numbers, internet account information, or other information that you may need to have at your fingertips, but would like to have secured behind AES-128 encryption on your iPhone. Previously, you couldn't add or edit wallet items on your

AppConnect, which just hit the store a couple days ago, is an important step in the right direction toward making it easier to find quality hidden gems in the App Store. When the App Store hit a billion downloads last month I complained about how difficult it is to discover cool apps. To summarize my points, Apple isn’t providing enough tools to find quality applications. I said, “maybe the answer is a genius recommendation system. Maybe it’s a featured iPhone user’s section that lets anybody see what an iPhone power user has installed on his or her phone. Maybe it’s a premium store. Maybe the solution is an app itself.” Yeah, I just quoted myself. How pompous is that? I’m sorry. AppConnect is the first app I’ve seen to really begin to fill this very important hole left by Apple. Sure there are apps like our own BargainBin, AppSniper or PandoraBox

I had a chance to try out 1Password touch 2.0 [Free - iTunes link], and the new ability to sync Wallet Items, along with an entirely new, very robust way to sync over Wi-Fi, work the way such things ought. If you loves security, and want the ability to take your super-strong, pseudo-random passwords, as well as credit cards, debit cards, and all that new goodness, with you, give it a try.

Every Update Breaks another feature
Concerned User
Version: 1.3
I have been using this app on my Mac for sometime now and love it. I just wish that they would get the bugs worked out of this app for the Iphone. Every release seems to break a feature that was working just fine in the previous release. It was 1st loosing the auto rotate feature and now with the latest release the 1.3 build it will no longer auto fill any sites and the landscape view option is still not back yet. It seems that with every update we are moving back wards. I just wish that they would get some of the core features working then take there time with the updates and get them right. With out auto fill this app is worthless. I suggest that if you have yet to update don't wait and check reviews to see if issues are fixed before you lose another feature.
Agile keychain no go for me
Flying Dutchmen
Version: 2.1
After being very happy user since 1Password became available, now dropping from 5 to 1 star, and looking for alternative. Reason is that because I want to sync between desktop Mac OSX version and iPhone version, I now need to start using the Agile keychain. I only want to use the Apple keychain, this is a fundamental functionality of the operating system which I don't want to use from another company. Also I want to use MobileMe, and I don't accept the negative remarks from this company about this great service. Really a shame, could I just go back to the old version software. Biggest problem though is that they think they can force users to go in direction they don't want to go and manipulate reviews. Please listen better to users.
It rocks! My 500+ Logins and Secure Notes Synced to iPhone w/o a hitch!
C R B
Version: 1.0
Get the desktop version too! This is the #1 password management system if you want to automate the management of hundreds of web forms you are confronted with on a daily basis, need help managing all your other private personal tidbits, and want to streamline filling in forms in multiple web browsers on all your client machines.
Wallet Feature is Nice
Muéro
Version: 2.0
I think historically, most people used 1Password for automatically filling in login information on websites, and when the 1Password iPhone app was announced, it got a lot of talk on forums and blogs as a potential killer iPhone app. The security on the iPhone has, somewhat ironically, prevented 1Password from living up to its true potential as a great app for people worried about security while making the Internet easier to navigate. Unlike on Mac OS X, 1Password is not allowed to be integrated into Mobile Safari. While this is not the fault of 1Password's developers, I think it's a huge drawback to its functionality. Plus, with the impending release of iPhone OS 3.0, the "real" Mobile Safari will have the ability to remember and automatically fill login information as an included feature. This makes 1Password's limited usefullness in this area completely unnecessary.
re 1passuser's "HUGE SECURITY HOLE" "review"...
Right-ho
Version: 1.4
This 'reviewer' seems to be talking about the desktop app, rather than the iPhone app... and has not even bothered to look at the preference settings, and so has written a 'review' that asserts a total falsehood. The review is just wrong! The preferences in the desktop all include the following non-exclusive options (don't think I changed my defaults, but not positive), so the 1Password app will lock when any of these occurs... 1) Lock after X minutes of inactivity (mine is 20 minutes); 2) Lock when sleeping (mine is checked); 3) Lock when screen saver is activated (mine is checked); or 4) Lock when 1Password and all browsers are closed (mine wasn't checked, but it is now!). If they had bothered to look at the preferences they might have understood that there is no "security hole" here... A classic case of "user" issues...
Easy interface, great auto log in, syncs well with mac, but have 3 recommendations

Version: 1.4
Compared to a number of other password apps I have tried, 1Password is easy to use on both the iPhone and desktop. I have used SplashID on a number of platforms, including the iPhone (and desktop), but the auto log on with 1Password is a definite plus and this feature has worked without major issues. There is a double layer of password encryption, if turned on, and this level of protection is excellent. Syncing with the desktop version via WiFi is a charm; I have had no issues whatsoever. And I did not lose any data when I upgraded to version 2.9.7 (today); the upgrade was seamless. If this is a concern, just copy the backups (Library>Application Support>1Password>Backups) to another hard drive or memory device. Finally, adding login passwords from the desktop is extremely easy whenever you visit a new web site and enter the info for the first time. The program asks if you want to add the password info into the 1Password program, and the next time you sync with the iPhone, there it is.
Huge security hole!!!!!!!

I have been a user of this app on the Mac for years, but just now upgraded to the latest version on Leopard and iPhone. It is a huge blunder that now anyone who has access to my browser, without needing any password can SEE ALL MY SENSITIVE LOGIN URLS AND USERNAMES in my 1password database from the Bookmark menu.
This is absolutely wreckless, since I am sure that most users are not aware of this.
WRECKLESS and STUPID!
Give us an option to only display the bookmarks when the keychain has been unlocked or to disable this idiotic feature.
Everything Vanished With Update!!!!!

I was enjoying this program. I decided to update the app to get rid of bugs and add the new features so I downloaded it. After it synced to my iphone everything was erased and now I have to start over. What a bunch of....
Amazingly Fantastic

I just got into the habit of using 1password on both my macs in the last couple of months and i am super excited to see the native app for the Iphone. It is a little buggy and slow, But I am sure these things will be fixed rather quickly. If you own a mac and you are not using 1password then you should start. And if you are like me and was kind of stand offish about getting super secure passwords now you have no excuse, you can have them right there on your iphone and not have to worry about forgetting them.
1Password is excellent on the desktop, now it's off to a good start on the iPhone!

This really is a very nice start to 1Password on the iPhone. It's already relatively polished (though needed updates are upcoming) and it syncs well with the phenomenal desktop version. I wouldn't usually praise software or its developers, but 1Password is an application that I use everyday on my Mac and it's been supported well and updated very frequently. I'm looking forward to all the great things in store for 1Password on the iPhone.
Great Start

I have used 1P on my Mac for about 6 months and love it. I am so happy to see it made as a native app for the iPhone. However, while installing and setting it up was very easy, the implementation needs work. Primarily, it needs to either have a full browser with keyboard built in, or it needs to find a way to hand your login off to Safari. Great start though, and I can't complain about the price.
A good start

Sync seems to work very well, so that's probably one of the harder parts done already. The built-in web browser needs a lot of work. Not being able to use the keyboard is obviously a huge problem, but I understand this will be fixed soon. Looking forward to the update that will make this really usable.
Great App

Ive been using the 1Password Mac app for a long time now, and its one of my favorite apps for the Mac. I am very happy they released a version for the iPhone. I cant wait to use it on a daily basis while I am on the road away from a computer. Thanks Dave, Roustem, Dan & Crew!!

Ever since I saw a post about this on the Agile forums a few weeks ago, I've been like a kid waiting on Christmas. Now I have my favorite Mac app on my iPhone, and it's just as good, if not better! Agile, you guys are the best!!!

I've been a fan of the desktop version, and eagerly awaited the iPhone app. Does not disappoint. Syncing is easy, and I feel much safer carrying around my sensitive data.
Developers: Please Add a Self-Destruct Mode
Too4tune8
Version: 1.3.2
The app is good but is missing a key component which would give iPod/iPhone owners peace of mind if their devices were lost or stolen.
Developers, please add an optional self-destruct mode which will destroy all data when incorrect unlock codes are entered more than a certain number of times. This will help prevent others from obtaining private information stored within the app if the iPod/iPhone is lost or stolen.
If fellow customers agree, please click yes so we can get this request to the top of the list of reviews and help the developers make an even better product for us to use. Thanks.

WiFi Syncing in iPhone 1.0 + Desktop 2.8 = Brilliant Apps!

This application is the perfect compliment to the 1st Class Desktop App. Agile once again has proven themselves to be on the cutting edge and their commitment to innovation is beyond amazing! If you are dealing with multiple Macs, the Desktop App, the My1Password service and the iPhone App will easily keep you synced. I thought the original iPhone Bookmarklet was awesome, but once I saw the secure WiFi Syncing in 2.8 of the Desktop App, that just put it over the edge! Bravo Agile!
Close, but not like the desktop version

I was very excited to use this application, I absolutely love the desktop application! Being forced to use the agile web browser instead of the safari means this is a non-starter. On the positive side the program syncs well with the desktop application, It is also works as a good storage location for passwords, but without cut/paste to use the safari browser there is no way I can type in any of my generated passwords into the safari browser. Until the SDK allows interaction between safari and a native application I don't know where this will go. The bookmarklet was elegant and a system like that needs to be designed. . .this is not it.
Doesn't work for me at all

So I paid for the upgrade as I've been a satisfied desktop 1password user. As soon as I completed my sync to get my passwords onto the iPhone app, it stopped working. Now it only starts up and crashes immediately upon entering my unlock code. I'm very disappointed, especially as in the FAQs for this app, it's stated that this is a known issue with 1.0 and we need to wait for an upgrade for this to work.
5 Stars?!

Shouldn't something at least *work* to get a 5 star review? And how can an app be "very buggy" and still get that kind of rating? Review the product based on merit, not as a fan of the software development company. It's not fair to users and it's not fair to Agile.
By far THE BEST

First let me caveat my review by stating that I am not affiliated with Agile Web Solutions in any way. Second, I am not an Agile "cronie" who has been using their software.

THE BEST "MASTER KEY" FOR YOUR iPHONE AND MAC
Hamara
Version: 1.0
I've been using 1password for 8 months on my Mac. Sometimes I think how could I live without it. It's one of the best applications of all times. It saves you time and best of all, you never have to remember any of your passwords, only one MASTER KEY. How great! I am so happy to see this app on my iphone. Even if it is little buggy those guys from agilewebsolutions will fix it soon. I get emails with info about updates and what's new in next version all the time. How many passwords to you have to remember?.... I remember only ONE!! The rest is in 1password "hands". GET 1PASSWORD ON YOUR MAC AND YOUR iPHONE AND YOU WILL LIVE PASSWORD-STRESS-FREE.
Some problems
Baileya1c
Version: 1.0
Crashes like every other program. The biggest problem I have is with websites that ask security questions after you log in. There is no keyboard to type anything. Unfortunately most of my secure sites frequently ask security question so this program doesn't help me at all. Looks great and feels very secure though:) Dev's, sorry for knocking off a couple stars but with no keyboard in the browser menu it really makes this program useless. Also, any drop down menu is going to stop you in your tracks as well.

I love people that write reviews before actually using the product... After using the product, here is my review:
Disappointed

Version: 1.0
First of all I love the desktop app. Great application to save all of your logon and secure information. This app allows you to access this information on your iPhone. However it is not a seamless process. If I want to use any login information I have to use Agile's browser, not Safari. This means if I log on to a website I'm only logged on through the special browser and not Safari. So when I exit out of 1password I'm out of the site I logged on to. This is very annoying as I have to switch back and forth between the two browsers. If I get redirected from an email to Safari I can't access my passwords. If I'm in 1password I cant save a bookmark (or use the keyboard but that's getting fixed in 1.1.1). The also got the web 1password altogether which worked with 1.x iPhone software. I hope they can get this issues fixed soon. I understand the limitations of the SDK, but there has to be a way around this. I wouldn't mind a a redirect from 1password to Safari for every webpage I want to access that's secure. Also I'd like to see the ability to group logons. Having access to every logon from the app is cumbersome. Finally I should be able to se the level of security on either the iPhone or the desktop client.
FREE?

Version: 1.0
Are you kidding me? Free? I don't know what Agile Web Solutions business model is, but I like it. I got 1Password for the desktop via the MacHeist bundle (or more importantly, I read about 1Passwords iPhone bookmarklet, and bought the MacHeist bundle because of it), and then signed up for My1Password when it became available, and now this great iPhone app. I have given this company less than $20 bucks, and they have given me a world of useful services. I almost feel guilty taking this iPhone app for free. They really have done a lot, and they work hard and listen to feedback. They are truly a fantastic Mac developer. If you like this app go try their Mac desktop app. I've gotta sound like a shill, but look at the other reviews, we all love 1Password on the iPhone and on the desktop.
